An urban intersection group consists of a set of intersections which are geographically adjacent and strongly correlated with each other. It is an effective way to relieve traffic congestion in the networks to set the key intersection of the road network as the core, radiate outward to find the scale of its influence and divide the intersections into groups according to their relevance. Determining intersections group is the fundament of improving traffic control. Therefore, analyzing the associated features of intersections group and the research method of determining the scope of intersection group to ensure the compatibility of "time", " space" and "traffic flow", is of high research value and practical significance[1]. This paper focuses on operating characteristics of adjacent intersections with factor (CF) as indicators of the value of the associated metric of the adjacent sections and developing dynamic partitioning intersection group program in VISSIM, and take the road network near Guangzhou Road as example.

The 1st Argentine Symposium of Young Bioinformatics Researchers took place on 9-10 May 2016 at Universidad de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina. This event evolved from a previous meeting series known as Argentine Student Council Symposium that have been successfully organized since 2012 by the Regional Student Group of Argentina (RSG-Argentina). The change in name reflects the new vision of the organizing committee to gather together all students at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels, postdocs and researchers that are still not Principal Investigator. Here we summarize the main activities and outcomes from this year’s meeting and offer some insights into our future plans.

This report summarizes the scientific content and activities of the second edition of the Brazilian Student Council Symposium organized by the Regional Student Group Brazil (RSG-Brazil), a branch of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB). The event were held preceding the thirteen AB3C Conference (13th X-meeting 2017) in São Pedro, São Paulo, Brazil, on October 4, 2017. The 2nd BR-SCS was attended by 78 delegates from all student level (undergraduate, graduate and post-docs students) and consisted of two keynote presentations, eight students oral presentations and 15 posters presentation.

Khalid Farraj

In the second instalment of this testimonial series, Khalid Farraj recounts his experiences as an active member of the uprising in the waning days of the First Intifada, and as a student organizer at Birzeit University during what was arguably the university's most contentious and significant student council elections. In the first instalment, published by the Journal of Palestine Studies in its autumn 2017 issue, Farraj described how the uprising was organized and how it fueled the hopes and dreams of an entire generation of Palestinians. Here, he recalls how the intifada wound down, evoking the new geopolitical context that formed the backdrop to the Oslo peace process; he also provides a granular account of the spring 1994 Birzeit student council elections and anecdotes from daily life that illuminate Oslo's false promises of freedom and self-determination for the Palestinians. This first-person account was translated by Anny Gaul and adapted for publication in English by Maia Tabet. It originally appeared in issue 115 (Summer 2018) of Majallat al-Dirasat al-Filastiniyya, JPS’ Arabic-language sister journal.

Despite the considerable advances in molecular biology over the past several decades, the nature of the physical–chemical process by which inanimate matter become transformed into simplest life remains elusive. In this review, we describe recent advances in a relatively new area of chemistry, systems chemistry, which attempts to uncover the physical–chemical principles underlying that remarkable transformation. A significant development has been the discovery that within the space of chemical potentiality there exists a largely unexplored kinetic domain which could be termed dynamic kinetic chemistry. Our analysis suggests that all biological systems and associated sub-systems belong to this distinct domain, thereby facilitating the placement of biological systems within a coherent physical/chemical framework. That discovery offers new insights into the origin of life process, as well as opening the door toward the preparation of active materials able to self-heal, adapt to environmental changes, even communicate, mimicking what transpires routinely in the biological world. The road to simplest proto-life appears to be opening up.

This article describes Communication Recovery Groups (CRG), an aphasia group program that is sponsored by a medical setting and more recently a university setting. CRG's history and approach and its model of service in light of current healthcare challenges are summarized. The article also provides a detailed discussion regarding the logistics of offering conversation groups to persons with aphasia which are sponsored by medical and/or university settings, the intake process for new group members, and the training of student volunteers to help lead conversation groups.
