KIEW, R. 2015. Chionanthus (Oleaceae) in Sulawesi, Indonesia, including three new species. Reinwardtia 14(2): 287 - 295. - The genus Chionanthus (Oleaceae) in Sulawesi is revised. Nine species are described of which C. kostermansii Kiew, C. sordidus Kiew and C. sulawesicus Kiew are new species. Four species are endemic, C. celebicus Koord., C. sordidus, C. stenurus (Merr.) Kiew and C. sulawesicus. The geographic range of C. cordulatus Koord. extends to Borneo and Mollucas, while C. kostermansii also occurs in Sumbawa and Flores, and the range of C. rupicolus (Lingelsh.) Kiew extends to Sumbawa, Mollucas, New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago. Chionanthus polygamus (Roxb.) Kiew and C. ramiflorus Roxb. are both widespread species, the former from Sumatra to New Guinea and the latter from continental Asia to the Solomon Islands. A key to identify the species is provided. Chionanthus gigantifolius Koord. remains incompletely known.

Diagnostic characters of the Australian genus Arpactophilus are reviewed and augmented. Spilornena is demonstrated to be very similar morphologically, and the distinctions between the two genera are discussed. The known distribution of Arpactophilus now includes New Guinea, New Britain, New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands, and Fiji. Three new species of the genus are described from New Guinea: A. preposterus, A. rhinocerus and A. papua. The maxillary palpi of Arpactophilus, Spilomena, Xysrna and Microstigrnus are 5-segmented, not 6- as previously assumed. These four genera are removed from the subtribe Stigmina, and placed in a new subtribe, the Spilomenina.

The four subgenera considered in this section form part of the Forcipomyia-Lepidohelea complex of subgenera. A single species of subgenus Schizoforcipomya, penniornata Tokunaga & Mcrachi (= borbonica Clastrier) has previously been described from the Australasian Region, and to this are added three new species, and the distribution of borbonica is extended. F. tinia Krivosheina from the U.S.S.R. is transferred from Lepidohelea to Schizoforcipomya. Pedilohelea is known from Africa, tropical America and Malaysia; the range of one Malaysian species, forcipis de Meillon & Wirth, is extended to the Australasian Region, and two south temperate species, F. proavia, sp, nov., and F. tasmani Macfie, 1932 are referred to the subgenus. Two additional African species, brincki de Meillon and, tentatively, alamatae Macfie, are also referred to Pedilohelea. Several species of subgenus Microhelea have been recorded from New Guinea and the Pacific, and to these are added seven new species from Australia and New Guinea. Records of the widespread species F. (M.) fuliginosa (Meigen) and F. (M.) inornatipennis (Austen) from the Region are now considered doubtful, and F. (M.) australiensis (Kieffer) is regarded as a nomen dubium. A new subgenus near Microhelea, Dycea, is erected for three Australasian Region species (vespa, sp. nov.; capax, sp, nov.; improbiserra, sp. nov.) and the species hamoni de Meillon from Africa, hikosanensis Tokunaga from Japan, and edgari Tokunaga & Murachi from Micronesia are transferred to this subgenus. The interrelationships and biogeography of the subgenera of Forcipomyia examined in this series are discussed.

SummaryIn view of the discovery of several new species and subspecies of Amblypelta (Hemiptera, COREIDAE), some of which are either known to be or else threaten to become of economic importance, a revision of the whole genus has become necessary.The genus Amblypelta, as defined in the present paper and as known so far, is confined to Australia north of Sydney, the islands between Australia and New Guinea, New Guinea and, to the west, the Kai Is., Timor and Java; the Bismarck Archipelago, the Solomon Islands including Bougainville, Eennell and Bellona; the New Hebrides and New Caledonia. In the present revision of the genus, twelve species and five subspecies are included, of which all but seven species are new to science. Apart from the descriptions of the new species and subspecies, taxonomic notes on the previously known species are given as well as a key to all the species.The known distribution of each species is stated, and consideration given to the zoogeography of the genus as a whole, and of certain species-groups which can be recognised within the genus.

The genus Tricimba. in its broadest sense. is revised from Australia. New Guinea. and Bismarck and Solomon Islands and Vanuatu . In all, 66 species are recorded from Australia. 39 from New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago. five from the Solomon Islands and two from Vanuatu . A total of 96 species is included in the keys: seven described species. 87 new species of Tricimba (T . aberrans. Tricimba steatodae Hickman, 1971 is newly synonymised with T. convexa Malloch, 1927. The species considered are grouped into three genera and 17 species-groups within Tricimba. The relationships of the species-groups with each other and with extra-limital species-groups, and the relationships of the genera are tabulated and discussed. The genera Nartshukiella, Euhippelates, Eutricimba and Crassivenula are considered to correspond to the level of species-groups of Tricimba in this revision and are synonymised with Tricimba. The relationships of the tribes Tricimbini and Incertellini are discussed.


The structure, distribution and classification of the twenty species of sect Adenosperma are reviewed. The section is centred on New Guinea where nineteen species occur and F. megalophylla persists as the pachycaul relic. The section relates with sect. Sycocarpus subsect. Auriculisperma of the Solomon Islands and connects with the origin of sect. Ficus through the Philippine species F. pseudopalma and F. rivularis along the Sararanga -front of the Melanesian Foreland. The most widespread species are among the most advanced. They show the usual trend in Ficusfrom the stout pachycaul with large multibracteate fig to the leptocaul with lanceolate leaf and small fig, along with the development of cauliflory and geocarpy. There is no evidence to suggest that the species evolved through vicariism, and the two series Amphigenae and Hypogenae run almost identical courses from Celebes to New Hebrides. Two new species are described from New Guinea, F. pilulifera and F. suffruticosa.

Introduction of the new genus Deilagaon with descriptions of new species chrysolepidis (type-species) from the Philippines (type-locality Luzon, ex Ficus chrysolepis Miq.), Celebes, New Guinea (ex F. novoguineensis Corner), Bismarck Archipelago, Solomon Isis.; and annulatae from Thailand, Malaya (ex F.depressa Bl.), Sumatra, Borneo (type-locality N. Borneo, ex F. annulata Bl.), Philippines. Included is also Ceratosolen megarhopalus Grandi (1923) from Thailand, Malaya, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Philippines (Balabac Isl.).

The Early Cambrian olenelline trilobites are a diverse clade and have been the subject of several phylogenetic analyses. Here, three new species of Bradyfallotaspis Fritz, 1972 (B. coriae, B. nicolascagei, and B. sekwiensis) and one new species of Nevadia Walcott, 1910 (N. saupeae) are described from the Sekwi Formation of the Mackenzie Mountains, Northwest Territories, Canada. In addition, new specimens potentially referable to Nevadia ovalis McMenamin, 1987 were recovered that may expand that species’ geographic range, which was thought to be restricted to Sonora, Mexico. The results of a phylogenetic analysis incorporating several olenelline taxa, including Judomia absita Fritz, 1973 from the Sekwi Formation, are also presented herein. This species has been assigned to various olenelline genera, including Judomia Lermontova, 1951 and Paranevadella Palmer & Repina, 1993. Phylogenetic analysis suggests this species is closely related to Judomia tera Lazarenko, 1960 from Siberia. This phylogenetic relationship provides further support for the hypothesis that a close biogeographic relationship existed between Laurentia and Siberia during the Cambrian.

Iphimedia is reviewed and a new diagnosis based on 35 known species is given. Three new species, one each from Australia, Papua New Guinea and Florida, are described. This is the only genus, in a family otherwise confined to cold and deep oceans, that has tropical species.

This paper reports on mites of the family Pachylaelapidae collected in Bayburt Province, Turkey, during 2013–2015. Nine species were recorded in the genera Pachyseius, Olopachys, Pachylaelaps, and Onchodellus. Pachylaelaps (Longipachylaelaps) bayburtensis sp. nov., Onchodellus turcicus sp. nov. and O. montanus sp. nov. are described to new, and Pachylaelaps (Longipachylaelaps) vicarus is a new record for the Turkish mite fauna. New records extend the geographic range of Pachyseius masani, Olopachys hallidayi, and O. elongatus in Turkey.
