Abstract Contamination by dangerous heavy metal in the estuarine environment has risen with concern to the safety of coastal fish as seafood. Anthropogenic emission in the coastal areas becomes the primary source of heavy metal pollution in the aquatic environment, which then accumulates in fish species. Therefore, marine fish has a potency to be used as a bioindicator for heavy metals contamination in the coastal environment, since it may vary, as the results of marine hydrodynamics. This research presents seasonal variations (west monsoon, east monsoon, and intermediate monsoon) of heavy metals accumulation in fish from the coastal region of Cirebon, Indonesia. Three types of economic fish (Scatopagus argus, Siganus canaliculatus, and Nibea albifor) were taken, and the heavy metals (Cr, Co, Cu, As, Cd, Hg, and Pb) content were examined by inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The results showed a significant difference (p<0.05) of seasonal variation of heavy metals concentration in seawater and sediment. The contamination in seawater was higher during the east monsoon season, while the contamination in sediment was higher during the west monsoon season. The observation was also revealed variation on heavy metals accumulation in fish species. However, this study found no significant correlation (p>0.05) between the concentration of heavy metals in the environment and fish. Consequently, precaution is needed when using fish as a bioindicator for heavy metals contamination in coastal environments.

The heavy metal concentration (e.g., Mn, Zn, Pb and Ni) were determined in soft tissues and shells of freshwater mussels (Lamellidens marginalis) at the various sites of Dhanmondi lake, Dhaka, Bangladesh between the period April, 2010 and March 2011. The heavy metal concentrations in shells and soft tissues of freshwater mussels were tended to vary significantly among sampling points and seasons in Dhanmondi Lake. Distribution of heavy metals in shell and soft tissue of Lamellidens marginalis followed the order Mn>Zn>Pb>Ni, respectively. According to the t-test, level of manganese, zinc and lead under investigation between shell and tissue showed statistically significant differences [Mn: t=-11.387; df=16; P=0.000; Zn: t=-2.590; df=16; P=0.020 and Pb: t=-2.8679; df=16; P=0.011].

It is well-known that melliferous bees are the most sensitive indicators of ecologic conditions of natural environment. Researches in recent years show that bees and bee products can accumulate selectively some heavy metals, radioactive substances, pesticides and other polluters. Scales of heavy metals accumulation on the territory of Ukraine, as toxins of technologic origin unfortunately increase. Environmental pollution by heavy metals leads to their accumulation in plant and animal raw materials and production, consequently their quality decreases. It was proved that apiary accommodation in heavy metal polluted territories leads to their accumulation in pollen, honey bee-comb and wax. But the questions concerning study of peculiarities of sources, ways of pollution and heavy metals content in bee products are not enough lightened, and that was the purpose of our work. Generalized we present in literature information and results of our researches about the use of bees and bee products in quality of bioindicator contamination of environment by heavy metals. Dependence of content of heavy metals is set in the organism of bees in relation intensity of greening to contamination of environment. It is marked on the necessity of lead through of systems research in relation to determination of content of heavy metals in fabrics of bees and bee products with the purpose of search of new methodological approaches for authentication these toxicant of objective environment of contamination and him apimonitoring. Methodological elements of the researches of regularities of heavy metals and lipids content in the tissues of different anatomic sections of the organism and bee products were elaborated.

The present paper approaches a usual problem in the industrialised area, respectively Zlatna Area in Romania. The aim of this research is to establish the heavy metal soil contamination degree using modern research methods namely spectrometric and stripping methods. The results pointed out very high exceeding values, especially in the case of lead and copper, in the studied area. Moreover, the mobility and the availability of heavy metals decreases when pH increases. Findings suggest that the use of modern technologies have good results regarding the determination of the heavy metals in the soil.

Semarang coastal areas as specially on river down stream have been develop to industrial, dumpping areas and human settlement.  Its will be caused increasing sedimentation and anthropogenic heavy metals accumulation in sediments.  In order to assess Pb, and Cu on diferent layers of sediments on three down stream rivers on Semarang, samples of surface and bed sediment were collected for analyzed by ICPMS.  The result showed that the heavy metal of Pb on bed layer was higher than Pb on surface sediment, on the other hand Cu on surface sediment was higher than Cu on bed sediments.  Unfraternally the heavy metal concentration on surface and beds sediments they do not correlation with totals organic carbon and combination silt and clay in sediment on three down stream rivers on Semarang.

The heavy metals content in three fish species from River nun Amassoma axis was investigated. This was done in order to gauge the concentration of heavy metals in fish tissues and to estimate the safety of consuming these fish species on human health. Three species (pelagic and benthic fishes) were collected from local fishermen at the landing jetty and analyzed for heavy metals in the soft tissues using standard procedures. The heavy metals investigated are Cadmium (Cd), Nickel (Ni), Lead (Pb) and Chromium (Cr). Result indicates that Cd>Ni>Pb>Cr in the fish samples analyzed while Chrysichthys auratus showed the greatest abundant characteristics of Cr, Pb, Ni, Cd. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) in concentrations of Cr and Ni for all fish species. However, the results showed that there is a significant difference (P<0.05) in Pb concentration between Chrysichthys auratus, Chrysichthys aluuensis and Petrocephalus bane bane. Cd concentration in the fish species reveal that there is a significant difference (P<0.05) between Chrysichthys auratus and Petrocephalus bane bane but no significant difference (P>0.05) between Chrysichthys auratus and Chrysichthys aluuensis and between Chrysichthys aluuensis and Petrocephalus bane bane Heavy metal in the fish species showed that Chrysichthys auratus>Chrysichthys aluuensis>Petrocephalus bane bane. All metal characteristics were lower than the suggested WHO permissible limit. Benthic fish species have a greater heavy metal concentration than the pelagic fishes. Based on the observation from this study, the continuous and sustained consumption of Chrysichthys auratus and indeed benthic fish species possess a higher risk to health, while Cd poisoning in fish is most culpable of pollution in River Nun at Amassoma. axis.
