The fighter controllers (FC) are an occupational group who deal with a hectic, difficult and highly demanding job. Their occupation entails high levels of responsibility in terms of shouldering the Air Defence operations. These kinds of duties require them to perform optimally at all times and thus impose high grade of an unambiguous occupational stress. In the present study 38 Fighter Controllers of 4 IAF Stations were administered Organisational Role Stress (ORS) scale, Stress Buster Tool Kit and Holmes & Rahe Stress Scale. It was found that 66 per cent of the participants felt Inter Role Distance as a reason for high graded stress, similarly Role Stagnancy (55 %), Role overload (61 %) and Role Isolation (40 %) have severely affected the sample studied. Stress buster tool kit showed that 34 per cent participants perceived severe service related and workplace related stress. Holmes & Rahe questionnaire reported that a total of 31.6 per cent participants were at 90 per cent risk of developing systemic co-morbidities due to stress. This study reports that Fighter Controllers perceive their role to be less important with little opportunities for growth. A significant finding that emerged and that needs attention is the possibility that 1/3rd of the participants are prone to stress induced illnesses. The role of Aerospace Medicine Specialists in this context is paramount in alleviating stress and enhancing self-esteem in Fighter Controllers.

Contemporary industries face new competition requiring employees to work for longer hours under competitive time-bound deadlines. Prolonged exposure to such stressful situations leads to a depletion and exhaustion of resources in the mind and body with dysfunctional effects on job performance and overall organizational effectiveness. The Indian IT industry is a fast-paced service industry that is characterized by such stressful work situations and related outcomes. This chapter analyses the various factors that contribute to organizational stress and the role of demographic factors on role stress among the professionals of the Indian IT industry. A sample of 250 employees has been collected from the Delhi NCR region. Role stress has been measured by using the ORS scale which comprises of 10 dimensions of the role of stress that are measured by 50 items. The results show that there is a considerable amount of work related stress along with a significant impact of demographic factors on the role of stress amongst the IT professionals.

Purpose: The authors examined the influence of self-esteem and role stress on job performance of technical college employees.Research design: two sets of hypotheses were proposed. The first accessed the effect of self-esteem on job performance and the second focused on role stress on job performance. Participants consisted of 162 employees drawn from technical teachers and workshop attendants in selected technical colleges in Rivers and Bayelsa states. Questionnaire was the research instrument for data collection. To test the hypotheses, Structural equation modeling (SEM), were implemented.Findings: The result of the study indicated that there is significant negative effect of self-esteem, Role ambiguity and role overload on job performance of employees in technical collegesPolicy implications: Findings in this research indicates that college authorities should focus efforts at boosting self-esteem, since high self-esteem causes many positive outcomes. The study would be very useful to employees and students of technical colleges.

Abstract Background: Anxiety and depression are the most common occurring psychological distress in infertile patients. Our study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of depression and anxiety, and investigate the association of infertility-related stress with them among Chinese infertility patients. Meanwhile, the role of self-esteem in this association was explored as a positive psychological resource.Methods: The investigation was conducted between December 2017 to May 2018. Questionnaires that measured infertility-related stress, self-esteem, depression, and anxiety were distributed to 536 female infertility patients in Shenyang, China. Hierarchical linear regression analyses were used to examine the mediating and moderating role of self-esteem. Baron and Kenny’s technique, asymptotic, and resampling strategies were used to confirm the mediating role of self-esteem on the associations of infertility-related stress with depression and anxiety.Results: The prevalence of depression and anxiety was 27.9% and 42.2% among Chinese female infertility patients. Infertility-related stress was positively associated with depression and anxiety, whereas self-esteem was negatively associated with depression and anxiety. Besides, the effect of infertility-related stress on depression and anxiety gradually decreases with the increase of self-esteem. Meanwhile, self-esteem partially mediated the association of infertility-related stress with depression and anxiety.Conclusions: There was a high prevalence of psychological distress. Infertility-related stress and self-esteem were associated with psychological distress, which helped to explain why infertile women suffered higher prevalence of depression and anxiety. Besides, self-esteem mediated and moderated the effects of infertility-related stress on depression and anxiety. Interventions that focus on self-esteem may be effective and available resource to combat mental problems.

The purpose of this study was to examine actor and partner effects among infertile couples in determining whether self-esteem affects the degree of infertility-related stress via perceived spousal support. The sample comprised 219 couples who experienced infertility, each of whom completed an online survey. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis and APIM (Actor-Partner Interdependence Model) were performed using SPSS 25.0 and Mplus 7.3 program. The main results were as follows. First, the actor effect of spousal support on self-esteem was significant in both husbands and wives. Second, the actor effects of spousal support on infertility-related stress and self-esteem on infertility stress were significant only in husbands. Third, in the association between husbands’ and wives’ spousal support and infertility-related stress, three mediating pathways via husband’s self-esteem were found to be significant. Based on these results, the necessity for a couple-level analysis in infertility research, psycho-emotional interventions for infertile couples, and implications for follow-up studies were discussed.

Purpose – The main purpose of this study is to explore the influence of self-esteem and role stress on job performance in the hotel businesses. Moreover, the research aims to discover which role stress factors, i.e. role ambiguity, role conflict and role overload, have the most detrimental effect on an employee’s role stress in the hotel businesses. Design/methodology/approach – To achieve the above aim, four sets of hypotheses were proposed: the first looked into the effect of role stress, which consists of role ambiguity, role conflict and role overload on job performance, and the second focused on the effect of employees’ self-esteem on job performance. A questionnaire was used and participants were drawn from 227 hotel employees in Kusadasi, Turkey. To empirically test these hypotheses, structural equation modeling was implemented. Findings – The outcome of the study indicated three patterns: role ambiguity and role conflict are negatively associated with job performance; role overload and self-esteem are positively associated with job performance; and role ambiguity creates more role stress than role conflict or overload. Practical implications – The research findings suggest that some practical methodology should be introduced to improve employees’ job performance and diminish role stress. For instance, hotel managers should decrease role ambiguity and conflict, employ personnel with high self-esteem and prioritize reducing role overload rather than reducing role ambiguity or role conflict. Originality/value – The research findings suggest that both role stress and self-esteem are important factors influencing job performance in hotel management. This paper aims to identify some important steps to increase job performance. Thus, our study should prove to be of great value to those in hotel management.

 Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui peranan persepsi pada kebisingan, shift dan kelelahan terhadap stress kerja karyawan di PT. Hasnur Riung Sinergi Kabupaten Tapin Kalimantan Selatan. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 50 (lima puluh) orang. Teknik pengambilan data dengan cara purposive random sampling. Alat pengumpul data yang digunakan adalah kuesioner persepsi pada kebisingan, shift kerja, kelelahan kerja dan skala stress kerja. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah menggunakan analisis regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak ada peranan secara signifikan antara persepsi pada kebisingan terhadap stress kerja, namun faktor kelelahan berperan sebesar  33,6 % terhadap terjadinya stres. Kemudian  bekerja pada shift pagi berperan terhadap terjadinya stress daripada bekerja pada shift malam hari.  Kata kunci: Persepsi pada Kebisingan, Shift Kerja, Kelelahan Kerja, Stres Kerja This study aims to determine the role of perception in noise, shift work and fatigue to the stress of employees at PT. Hasnur Riung Sinergi Tapin district of South Kalimantan. Subjects numbered 50 (fifty). Data retrieval techniques by purposive random sampling. Data collection tool used a questionnaire on the perception of noise, shift work, job burnout and job stress scale. Analysis of the data used is regression analysis. The results showed no significant role between stress perception in noise to work, but the fatigue factor of 33.6% contribute to the occurrence of stress. AbstractThis study investigates the connection between employees’ experience of time-related work stress and their job performance, with a particular focus on the mediating role of their propensity to engage in negative gossip and the moderating role of their collectivistic orientation. The results based on multisource, three-wave data from employees, their peers, and supervisors in Pakistani organizations show that an important reason that time-related work stress might diminish job performance is that employees expend significant energy discussing their negative evaluations of other organizational members with peers, possibly as a way to protect their self-esteem resources. This mediating role of gossip is also invigorated by employees’ collectivistic orientation. For organizations, this study identifies a key mechanism – informal conversations with peers about the flaws of others in the organization – by which time-related stress prevents employees from allocating sufficient energy to completing their job tasks, and it reveals that this process is more likely among collectivistic employees.

As the objective of air traffic control (ATC) services is to achieve flight safety and efficient aircraft operations, the role of air traffic controllers is vital in the aviation system as a result. In this paper, the controller’s interactions were explored in terms of communications. The study was conducted through survey on the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) ATC controllers to identify any discrepancies in their viewpoints on the role of communication in their profession. In order to diminish differing points of view and ensure effective communication, the experienced controllers should commit to creating the desired work environment and every controller must keep in mind that mutual trust is a vital part of a successful organization. Instructions in accordance with the regulations, improvements in job satisfaction and self esteem, communication training, and individual endeavors fostering effective communication are all measures which will go a long way toward improving effective communications between the ATC specialists.
