Abstract In this paper, we will discuss how to incorporate several of the QS-9000 quality system requirements into an existing ISO 9000 quality system. This expansion of the existing quality system will be cost effective and ensure that the continuous improvement program will meet its goals. The QS-9000 quality system was developed in 1994 by the "Big Three" automotive and truck producers in Detroit, Michigan. This document, originated in the United States, is based upon the International Standard: ISO 9001-94. It is mandatory that any supplier of goods and/or services to either Chrysler, Ford or General Motors must have their quality system registered to the QS-9000 standard. We believe that there can be benefits to non-automotive organizations if they will incorporate some of the QS-9000 clauses into their current ISO 9000 quality systems. We will discuss actual cases in the following areas: purchasing, safety, process control, training, business management and continuous improvement. We will show how these examples of quality system enhancement are both effective and efficient ways of driving cost reduction and process improvement programs. Cost of quality initiatives can be better managed.

A unit of Fortum Service Ltd. operates and maintains the Rauhalahti power plant in Central Finland. In 1996-97, the unit launched a project pursuing coordinated organizationwide electronic document management (EDM). This case follows deliberate and emergent changes related to document management in the organization since the initiation of the project until February 2000. New information technologies were adopted, and responsibilities for continuous improvement of EDM were assigned. The continuous improvement was implemented as an extension of the ISO 9002 quality system earlier adopted for process improvement. The case shows that a shift from the paper-based era towards organizationwide EDM is a comprehensive change both affecting and affected by several components in the organization. EDM development in the organization was part of organization recursive dynamics where the quality system supported both planning for deliberate changes and reacting to emergent changes.

ABSTRACT: The application of role-playing learning with self-assessment had been done in the course of Laboratory Management. The application of role-playing learning with self-assessment has been done in the course of Laboratory Management. The learning of role-playing used the module scenario that has been developed based on the general requirements for the competence of testing laboratory and calibration laboratory as stipulated in SNI ISO / IEC 17025. The development of role-playing learning was done through three materials, the making of quality documents, internal audit, and management review, in which each student material will perform the role and proven by video. Self-assessment was based on the competency unit in SKKNI Field of Laboratory Testing Services MSL91600A Develop and maintain laboratory documents, MSL933002A Contribute to the achievement of quality objectives, MSL934002A Implement quality system and continuous improvement process, MSL936001A Maintain quality system and continuous improvement process in work environment, and MSL936002A Carry out internal audits of the quality system. The application of role-playing with self-assessment could give an influence to the improvement of student competency achievement in the competency unit. In class A, student's score of student's previous competency points 39.35% rose to 67.75% and class B rose from 46.51% to 68.95%. The application of role-playing in Laboratory Management could improve the learning outcomes, there is an increase in the number of students who get the value of A that is 13.04% rose to 27.42% while the number of students who got £ C decreased 7.22% i.e. from 21.74% to 14.52%. In addition, the application of role-playing method could improve the teaching performance of lecturer by students that is 3.43.
