AbstractIn this paper, we consider the following Timoshenko system of thermo-viscoelasticity of type III with frictional damping and delay terms:\left\{\begin{aligned} &\displaystyle\rho_{1}\varphi_{tt}-K(\varphi_{x}+\psi)_% {x}=0,&&\displaystyle(x,t)\in(0,1)\times(0,\infty),\\ &\displaystyle\rho_{2}\psi_{tt}-b\psi_{xx}+K(\varphi_{x}+\psi)+\beta\theta_{x}% =0,&&\displaystyle(x,t)\in(0,1)\times(0,\infty),\\ &\displaystyle\rho_{3}\theta_{tt}-\delta\theta_{xx}+\gamma\psi_{ttx}+\int_{0}^% {t}g(t-s)\theta_{xx}(s)\,\mathrm{d}s+\mu_{1}\theta_{t}(x,t)+\mu_{2}\theta_{t}(% x,t-\tau)=0,&&\displaystyle(x,t)\in(0,1)\times(0,\infty),\end{aligned}\right.together with initial datum and boundary conditions of Dirichlet type, wheregis a positive non-increasing relaxation function and{\mu_{1},\mu_{2}}are positive constants. Under a hypothesis between the weight of the delay term and the weight of the friction damping term, we prove the global existence of solutions by using the Faedo–Galerkin approximations together with some energy estimates. Then, by introducing appropriate Lyapunov functionals, under the imposed constrain on the above two weights, we establish a general energy decay result from which the exponential and polynomial types of decay are only special cases.

AbstractIn this paper, we study the wave equation with frictional damping, time delay in the velocity, and logarithmic source of the form $$ u_{tt}(x,t) - \Delta u (x,t) + \alpha u_{t} (x,t) + \beta u_{t} (x, t- \tau ) = u(x,t) \ln \bigl\vert u(x,t) \bigr\vert ^{\gamma } . $$ u t t ( x , t ) − Δ u ( x , t ) + α u t ( x , t ) + β u t ( x , t − τ ) = u ( x , t ) ln | u ( x , t ) | γ . There is much literature on wave equations with a polynomial nonlinear source, but not much on the equations with logarithmic source. We show the local and global existence of solutions using Faedo–Galerkin’s method and the logarithmic Sobolev inequality. And then we investigate the decay rates and infinite time blow-up for the solutions through the potential well and perturbed energy methods.

A plate equation with a memory term and a time delay term in the internal feedback is investigated. Under suitable assumptions, we establish the global well-posedness of the initial and boundary value problem by using the Faedo-Galerkin approximations and some energy estimates. Moreover, by using energy perturbation method, we prove a general decay result of the energy provided that the weight of the delay is less than the weight of the damping.

In this paper, we investigate one-dimensional thermoelastic system of Timoshenko type III with double memory dampings. At first we give the global existence of solutions by using semigroup theory. Then we can prove the energy decay of solutions by constructing a series of Lyapunov functionals and obtain the existence of absorbing ball. Finally, we prove the asymptotic compactness by using uniform contractive functions and obtain the existence of uniform attractor.

We are interested in the inverse scattering problem for semi-linear wave equations in one dimension. Assuming null conditions, we prove that small data lead to global existence of solutions to [Formula: see text]-dimensional semi-linear wave equations. This result allows us to construct the scattering fields and their corresponding weighted Sobolev spaces at the infinities. Finally, we prove that the scattering operator not only describes the scattering behavior of the solution but also uniquely determines the solution. The key ingredient of our proof is the same strategy proposed by Le Floch and LeFloch [On the global evolution of self-gravitating matter. Nonlinear interactions in Gowdy symmetry, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 233 (2019) 45–86] as well as Luli et al. [On one-dimension semi-linear wave equations with null conditions, Adv. Math. 329 (2018) 174–188] to make full use of the null structure and the weighted energy estimates.

Let denote a separable, complex Hilbert space, and let R be a von Neumann algebra acting on . (A von Neumann algebra is a weakly closed, self-adjoint algebra of operators that contains the identity operator on its underlying space.) An element A of R is a commutator in R if there exist operators B and C in R such that A = BC — CB. The problem of specifying exactly which operators are commutators in R has been solved in certain special cases; e.g. if R is an algebra of type In (n < ∞) (2), and if R is a factor of type I∞ (1). It is the purpose of this note to treat the same problem in case R is a factor of type III. Our main result is the following theorem.

AbstractIn this paper, we consider a one-dimensional linear thermoelastic system of Timoshenko type with a delay term in the feedback. The heat conduction is given by Cattaneo's law. Under an appropriate assumption between the weight of the delay and the weight of the damping, we prove the well-posedness of the problem. Furthermore, an exponential stability result is shown without the usual assumption on the wave speeds. To achieve our goals, we make use of the semigroup method and the energy method.
