On 27 October 2014, CEFIC, the European Chemical Industry Council, released their second sustainability report entitled “Teaming up for a sustainable Europe.” With their partners in the supply chain CEFIC deliver innovative solutions to global challenges while preserving resources and the environment. Their products and services play a crucial role in addressing key societal challenges, such as providing water, food and energy to a growing world population.

Abstract Chemists find careers in the chemical industry very rewarding. The focus is on applied chemistry and in delivering solutions that meet customer needs, whether the customers are other industrial companies or individual consumers. Chemistry provides solutions to the global challenges facing our society, including the need for clean water, nutritious food, improved healthcare and wellness, affordable housing, and sustainable infrastructure. Within industry, chemists serve in a wide variety of roles. The largest fraction may be in research and development (R&D), although opportunities in manufacturing, technical service and development, supply chain, marketing, intellectual property protection, sales and commercial functions, and many other options are also open to chemists who want to apply their skills [1]. I was drawn to a career in industry because I’m results oriented and I wanted my work to be applied immediately and have an impact.

The evolution towards Industry 4.0 is driving the need for innovative solutions in the area of network management, considering the complex, dynamic and heterogeneous nature of ICT supply chains. To this end, Intent-Based networking (IBN) which is already proven to evolve how network management is driven today, can be implemented as a solution to facilitate the management of large ICT supply chains. In this paper, we first present a comparison of the main architectural components of typical IBN systems and, then, we study the key engineering requirements when integrating IBN with ICT supply chain network systems while considering AI methods. We also propose a general architecture design that enables intent translation of ICT supply chain specifications into lower level policies, to finally show an example of how the access control is performed in a modeled ICT supply chain system.


This paper is discussing on the emergence of awareness in Malaysia’s supply chain in green practices and implementation towards sustainability. All elements in good supply chain management are being tabled from the various authors & publications within the latest three years period. All business entity inclusive of industries, manufacturing, warehousing, transportation covering the land, sea and air. World population is nearing 7.5 billion directly triggered a massive food production, electrical & electronics appliances, furnitures, housing estates, textiles industries, transportations for movement, upgrading of roads, seaports, bigger airports causing huge consumptions of fossil fuel. Consequently causing damage to the environment. World leaders are united in decision of tacking the global warming at United Nation assembly but the action on the ground is very minimal resulting in the iceberg melting continuously, flooding in low land area in coastal city such as Jakarta, Shanghai and Lagos. Endless effort are being taken to reduce the dependency on fossil fuel by the world leading economy nations such as China in developing electric car engines, Germany in longer lifespan battery operated vehicles as well as solar energy and water based engine (Hybrid). In the market with the pressure from the society and environmentalist manufacturing are aggressively implementing reverse logistics on their products, transportations companies are maximizing their truckloads, factories are reducing the electricity and create awareness and ownership which is resulting the low carbon footprint.

Ever since its isolation in 1820, Quinine has played a crucial role in the development of organic chemistry, the chemical industry and modern medicine. A total synthesis of quinine, widely regarded as an event of epochal importance, was claimed by Woodward and Doering in 1945. This work, however, heavily relied on unsubstantiated literature reports and it appears that Woodward's work fell short of a total synthesis of quinine. The first total synthesis of quinine was reported by Uskokovic in the 1970s. The first stereoselective total synthesis of quinine was accomplished only in 2001, by Stork, who incidentally is the originator of the concept of stereoselectivity in total synthesis. Apart from the stereoselectivity, Stork's synthesis of quinine is remarkable for its conceptual uniqueness and retrosynthetic novelty. Naturally, this work has been attested as a landmark in organic synthesis by leaders in the field. Subsequently, Jacobson and Kobayashi reported the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of quinine in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Both these synthesis have followed a similar approach. The present review has attempted to provide a concise account of the synthesis of quinine from a historical perspective.

In this chapter, I examine supply-chain-related challenges that eMarketplaces and existing companies face as business-to-business eCommerce increases. Although the Internet is increasingly attractive for B2B commerce and for supply-chain management, eCommerce is more likely to reveal the inefficiencies in supply chain and to increase customer expectations relative to offline trade. Therefore, managers must understand the supply-chain management challenges associated with B2B eCommerce, especially in light of the fulfillment failures already experienced in business-to-consumer eCommerce.

<p>Long term relationship with suppliers is broadly considered a vital contributor to supply chain performance by both practitioners and researchers. This paper investigates the role of long term relationship in strategic supplier partnership and financial performance (SSP-LR-P model). Specifically, it has observed the role of long-term supplier relationship as the driver of integration. Using structural Equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the data from 401 Saudi chemical and petrochemical firms, it is found that strategic supplier partnership has a significant direct and indirect effect on firms’ performance through the mediation of long term relationship.</p>
