The investigation of characteristics of access and use of resources in different distributed environments in the network space is aimed at determining optimal levels for the basic parameters of the supported processes. On the other hand, with the development of the possibilities of the digital space and the significant change in the level of informatization of the society, it is necessary to take the necessary measures to ensure secure access to information resources and in particular to the profiles of personal data. In this respect, the purpose of the article is to propose an organization of heterogeneous environment with resources stored in different places (own memories and cloud data centres). A general architecture and functionality of the main sub-systems are presented. Deterministic model investigation by using Petri Net apparatus based on preliminary formalization is provided to analyse the effectiveness of the processes for regulated and secure access to resources.

Pressure ulcers are a critical issue not only for patients, decreasing their quality of life, but also for healthcare professionals, contributing to burnout from continuous monitoring, with a consequent increase in healthcare costs. Due to the relevance of this problem, many hardware and software approaches have been proposed to ameliorate some aspects of pressure ulcer prevention and monitoring. In this article, we focus on reviewing solutions that use sensor-based data, possibly in combination with other intrinsic or extrinsic information, processed by some form of intelligent algorithm, to provide healthcare professionals with knowledge that improves the decision-making process when dealing with a patient at risk of developing pressure ulcers. We used a systematic approach to select 21 studies that were thoroughly reviewed and summarized, considering which sensors and algorithms were used, the most relevant data features, the recommendations provided, and the results obtained after deployment. This review allowed us not only to describe the state of the art regarding the previous items, but also to identify the three main stages where intelligent algorithms can bring meaningful improvement to pressure ulcer prevention and mitigation. Finally, as a result of this review and following discussion, we drew guidelines for a general architecture of an intelligent pressure ulcer prevention system.

Mental terms—such as perception, cognition, action, emotion, as well as attention, memory, decision-making—are epistemically sterile. We support our thesis based on extensive comparative neuroanatomy knowledge of the organization of the vertebrate brain. Evolutionary pressures have moulded the central nervous system to promote survival. Careful characterization of the vertebrate brain shows that its architecture supports an enormous amount of communication and integration of signals, especially in birds and mammals. The general architecture supports a degree of ‘computational flexibility’ that enables animals to cope successfully with complex and ever-changing environments. Here, we suggest that the vertebrate neuroarchitecture does not respect the boundaries of standard mental terms, and propose that neuroscience should aim to unravel the dynamic coupling between large-scale brain circuits and complex, naturalistic behaviours. This article is part of the theme issue ‘Systems neuroscience through the lens of evolutionary theory’.

The article presents the concept of the hybrid communication system for the purpose of maritime applications. The main idea of this system is that it will utilize the seamless roaming concept, which means the communication link at sea will be established automatically (and seamlessly for the user), using many possible communication techniques (cellular, LTE, Wi-Fi, VDES, etc.) which will be selected depending on the current conditions of the radio channel and the requirements and preferences of the user. The paper will introduce the general architecture of the system, the concept of the maritime cloud and the seamless roaming, including the way the latter will be implemented in the system. The authors will also briefly introduce the proposed test-bed of the system’s on-board device. The system presented in the article is one of the major topics of the EfficienSea 2 project (co-funded from the ‘Horizon 2020’ programme) in which the authors of the paper participate.

The treatment of infectious diseases caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens is a major clinical challenge of the 21st century. The membrane-embedded respiratory cytochrome bd-type oxygen reductase is a critical survival factor utilized by pathogenic bacteria during infection, proliferation and the transition from acute to chronic states. Escherichia coli encodes for two cytochrome bd isoforms that are both involved in respiration under oxygen limited conditions. Mechanistic and structural differences between cydABX (Ecbd-I) and appCBX (Ecbd-II) operon encoded cytochrome bd variants have remained elusive in the past. Here, we demonstrate that cytochrome bd-II catalyzes oxidation of benzoquinols while possessing additional specificity for naphthoquinones. Our data show that although menaquinol-1 (MK1) is not able to directly transfer electrons onto cytochrome bd-II from E. coli, it has a stimulatory effect on its oxygen reduction rate in the presence of ubiquinol-1. We further determined cryo-EM structures of cytochrome bd-II to high resolution of 2.1 Å. Our structural insights confirm that the general architecture and substrate accessible pathways are conserved between the two bd oxidase isoforms, but two notable differences are apparent upon inspection: (i) Ecbd-II does not contain a CydH-like subunit, thereby exposing heme b595 to the membrane environment and (ii) the AppB subunit harbors a structural demethylmenaquinone-8 molecule instead of ubiquinone-8 as found in CydB of Ecbd-I. Our work completes the structural landscape of terminal respiratory oxygen reductases of E. coli and suggests that structural and functional properties of the respective oxidases are linked to quinol-pool dependent metabolic adaptations in E. coli.

ABSTRACT This paper aims (a) to explain the mechanisms from which the problem of reswitching of techniques is formulated and (b) to analyze the implications with regard to the general architecture of neoclassical macroeconomics. I will show how these elements allow refuting the neoclassical theory of income distribution, and why they translate into structural instability. In the first part, I will explain the mechanisms that correspond to the problem of reswitching of techniques; in the second part, I will study the implications linked to the reswitching, with regard to the determinants of income distribution and the equilibrium stability.

“Swachh Bharat” is a national campaign by the statutory cities and towns to clean the roads streets and infrastructure of the country. When the massive amount of waste material is collected, it is difficult to separate and unhygienic. Now a day’s garbage is separately thrown i.e. dry and wet. The Internet of Things (IoT) shall be able to incorporate transparently and coherently a large number of different and heterogeneous end systems, while providing open access to selected subsets of data for the developing a digital services. Building a general architecture for the IoT is hence a very complex task, mainly because of the extremely large variety of devices, link layer technologies. One of the main concerns with our environment has been solid waste management which in addition to disturbing the balance of the environment also has adverse effects on the health of the society. The detection, monitoring and management of wastes are one of the primary problems of the present period. The traditional way of manually monitoring the wastes in waste bins is a complex, cumbersome process and utilizes more human effort, time and cost which is not compatible with the present day technologies in any way. This is an advanced method in which waste management is automated. In this “IOT based garbage monitoring system” The separate the wet and dry garbage using the moisturized sensor. This system is based on the separation and monitoring of garbage using Arduino Uno, Wi-Fi-module, ultrasonic sensor. Online identification of the garbage level using IOT, ultrasonic sensor and Wi-Fi module makes this system more effective than other system.

oriC is a region of the bacterial chromosome at which the initiator protein DnaA interacts with specific sequences, leading to DNA unwinding and the initiation of chromosome replication. The general architecture of oriCs is universal; however, the structure of oriC and the mode of orisome assembly differ in distantly related bacteria. In this work, we characterized oriC of Helicobacter pylori, which consists of two DnaA box clusters and a DNA unwinding element (DUE); the latter can be subdivided into a GC-rich region, a DnaA-trio and an AT-rich region. We show that the DnaA-trio submodule is crucial for DNA unwinding, possibly because it enables proper DnaA oligomerization on ssDNA. However, we also observed the reverse effect: DNA unwinding, enabling subsequent DnaA–ssDNA oligomer formation—stabilized DnaA binding to box ts1. This suggests the interplay between DnaA binding to ssDNA and dsDNA upon DNA unwinding. Further investigation of the ts1 DnaA box revealed that this box, together with the newly identified c-ATP DnaA box in oriC1, constitute a new class of ATP–DnaA boxes. Indeed, in vitro ATP–DnaA unwinds H. pylori oriC more efficiently than ADP–DnaA. Our results expand the understanding of H. pylori orisome formation, indicating another regulatory pathway of H. pylori orisome assembly.
