Romania is a blessed place with many areas of unique beauty - as part of the natural heritage - with places where the spectacle of nature delights your eyes and take your breath with every step. Constantly promoting philatelic themes that use natural wealth and the beauty of our country as subjects, the administrative entity (with various names over time) responsible for issuing postage stamps performs a series of postage stamps in whose images are found rarities of flora and fauna, a miracle of nature. To show that protected natural areas have a special beauty, and to make them known to everyone, we bring to the talk the most significant philatelic peculiarities in the Ceahl?u National Park (Romania). In this context, the purpose of the research is to identify, index, analyze, describe and disseminate the main philatelic materials that promote the protected area considered. The realization of the whole approach was based on the information provided by a series of philatelic catalogs and sites with dedicated philatelic content. The results show that the concern for the habitat of the area was remarkable, both the multitude of identified philatelic pieces and their artwork speak for themselves.

Background: Protected areas are important attractions for promoting healthy life habits. Consequently, to date, a number of studies have examined the association between visitors’ characteristics and physical activities. However, little is known about the specific users inclined exclusively to have sedentary behavior during a visit. Thus, using the Alt Pirineu Natural Park (Spain) as a case study, the aim of this study is to determine the influence of sociodemographic, trip, motivational, and opinion descriptors on the likelihood of participating in sedentary behavior while visiting a protected natural area. Methods: The data used were randomly collected from visitors through an onsite structured questionnaire (N = 628). Results: Metabolic equivalent consumption was used to empirically distinguish the sedentary (22.6%) from the active (77.4%) visitor groups. A logistic regression analysis indicated that the trip and motivational descriptors explained the highest degree of the overall variation in reporting sedentary behavior. Conclusion: The study contributed to documenting the information about visitors’ behavior in protected areas, and the findings may aid park managers in developing effective management strategies for promoting and enhancing physical activity in protected natural areas.

This article analyzes the impact of the end of the COVID-19 lockdown on the number of rescues in natural areas in Catalonia (Spain) during July and August 2020. We compared the figures for 2020 with those corresponding to the same period in 2016–2019, including their temporal and spatial distributions. Our findings show that the number of rescues undertaken by the Catalan Fire Department in July and August 2020 increased significantly compared to the same summer period in the four previous years (+39.7%). The daily averages increased for both weekends and weekdays in 2020, with 7.5 and 3.9 rescues per day, respectively. The greatest increase corresponded to rescue operations conducted at low altitudes (up to 500 m ASL) and areas with no specific protection status near to populated places. Natural areas were perceived safer than, for example, coastal destinations in terms of the risk of COVID-19 contagion, and they experienced a growth in visitors during the first summer of the pandemic. One consequence of this was an increase in emergency service activity to rescue people in natural areas. This research adds new evidence of the multiple indirect effects of the reconfiguration of mobilities in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our findings could be of interest to emergency service managers, managers of protected natural areas, and public authorities.

ABSTRACT The Protected Natural Areas (PNA's) have singular vocation for ecotourism, highlighting the dialectic between intrinsic and utilitarian functions of these territories and revealing concerns about the conservation of the biotic and abiotic collection in addition to the sensibilities associated to the social tissue from the autochthonous communities. Due to the negative impacts caused by tourism and the need for tools that put in practice the premises of sustainability, it´s important to defend a greatest relevance about the application of management models for tourism in PNA`s. In this sense, this paper develops an approach that converge the attractive offer from PNA`s with different profiles of ecotourism demand, with the aim to present a proposed tourist Zoning, as a case study with the National Park Serra de Itabaiana (PARNASI) in the state of Sergipe. For this purpose, we used a descriptive study methodology, data collection through interviews and direct observation, and also documentary research. The literature presents various types of ecotourist profiles and this work will detail the Fernie`s studies which ranks ecotourism demand in Eco-Experts, Eco-intermediates and Eco-generalists. To establish the correlation between the preferred activities of these profiles and tourist Zoning, it was used the Recreational Opportunity Spectrum (ROS). It´s found at PARNASI a set of attractive and infrastructure in specific areas, which can be targeted to specific profiles such as Eco-Generalist, Eco-Intermediate and Eco-Expert and their motivations for different activities as picnics, contemplation, environmental education, treckings, sports, etc. The results show the potential contribution of tourism Zoning strategies for the conservation and improvement of the tourism experience, through conciliation between the profile of the ecotourist demand with the supply of natural attractions of the NPA.
