In this study, we investigate the health problems and the use of medications and traditional therapies among Chinese immigrants in the Southern region of Spain. A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews and including 133 immigrants and 7 stakeholders was conducted in 2017. Transcription, literal reading, and theoretical categorization were performed, and a narrative content analysis was carried out. The most common health problems were musculoskeletal (28.6%) and allergies (25.6%) related to work activity and unhealthy lifestyles. Key informants also reported gastric problems, stress, and changes in eating habits, mostly related to their work activity. For these problems, a large number of traditional remedies (herbs, diet therapy, acupuncture, vitamins, etc.) were used, usually combined with pharmaceutical drugs used for colds, flu, general malaise (29%), pain and fever (23%), and allergy drugs (9.2%). Chinese immigrants reported health conditions associated with their working conditions and life habits in Spain, using Traditional Chinese Medicine instead of pharmacological drugs. Understanding these health problems and promoting awareness towards traditional therapies in the healthcare system may help to design public policies and Health Promotion strategies targeting this group.

Abstract It is important to understand the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic not only on individuals’ daily lives, but also their close partners. Current literature suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted older adults’ lives in several ways, including the frequency of social interactions and change in various life habits (Lesbrasseur et al., 2021). Data from 42 middle-aged and older, long-term married or cohabitating dyads were collected as part of an ongoing study of everyday cognition and functioning among couples. Participant age ranged from 40-85+, and couples were partnered for 9-60+ years. During this study, COVID-19 pandemic impact was assessed using six items (1 = No change to 4 = Severe change) examining daily routines, medical and mental health access, social contacts, and pandemic and family-related stress; reports ranged from six to 19. On average, women reported significantly higher COVID-19 pandemic impact compared to men. For both partners, the greatest disruptions reported related to routines and social contacts. Further analysis examined COVID-19 pandemic impact in dyads. For eight dyads, both partners reported relatively lower COVID-19 impact (6-11), whereas for six dyads, both partners reported higher impact scores (14-19). Discussion focuses on within-dyad and between-dyad differences related to perceptions of the pandemic’s impact.

This paper proves that British Euroscepticism is not just a consequence of the peculiarities of the current political situation but the result of the centuries-old specific attitude of Great Britain to Europe as the other sociocultural space different in many senses from the United Kingdom. The roots of this attitude can be found in the English Reformation of the 16th century which rigidly opposed “British” Protestantism to “European” Catholicism. Several examples of historical events that have aggravated this religious and cultural rift are given. As a result, the British vision of Europeans shared by political elites as people with a different way of life, habits and traditions resulted in a sceptical attitude towards European integration and Britain's participation in it. The statements of famous British politicians regarding European integration and participation of Great Britain in it are cited to confirm the vision of Europe as “the Other” by the political elites of the United Kingdom. It is argued that British Euroscepticism is largely determined and inspired by cultural exceptionalism. Therefore, special attention is paid to the analysis of the British version of cultural Euroscepticism.

Uncontrolled blood pressure can cause fatal complications for the patients. The high number of hypertension patients in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta is caused by a lack of self-awareness and low motivation from families. Those encourage the team to conduct education activities related to preventing high blood pressure and tips so that blood pressure can be controlled. The team coordinated with West Jakarta Tomang sub-district citizens in the implementation of community service so that health education activities can be realized. This activity is carried out by providing health education related to the ways in preventing hypertension and the benefits of it during this pandemic situation. The target people of the activity is young adults in West Jakarta area, especially those with risk factors related to hypertension, hypertension patients and their families. The activity was attended by 38 participants in accordance with the target of counseling activities. The result of the average pre-test score was 35.09 and the post-test average score was 62.28; there was an increase in the knowledge of participants who attended this education about 77.5%. This activity and other similar activities need to be carried out routinely so that the people can apply healthy life habits consistently.

Abstract This study analysed and compared the shell shape, morphometrics and relative growth of four sympatric limpet species (Patella depressa, Patella ulyssiponensis, Patella vulgata and Siphonaria pectinata) collected at Praia da Luz in Lagos (Algarve coast – southern Portugal). Morphometric relationships were established through regression analysis between linear (shell length, width and height), ponderal (total weight), area (shell base and surface areas) and volume variables (shell internal and total volumes). Relative growth (isometry vs allometry) was analysed to assess variation in the growth rate of morphometric variables throughout the species ontogeny. In addition, morphometric indices (ellipticity, conicity, density, surface area and volumetry) were calculated to further characterize shell shape. Overall, 1482 individuals with broad size and weight ranges were analysed (P. depressa = 354; P. ulyssiponensis = 306; P. vulgata = 408; S. pectinata = 414). All regressions were highly significant (P < 0.001) and the morphometric variables were strongly correlated (r = 0.761 to 0.994). Among 28 morphometric relationships, there were 14 isometries, 13 positive allometries and only one negative allometry. The morphometric indices revealed clear morphological differences between species and were mostly size-dependent, reflecting gradual changes in shell shape during growth. The main results are compared with a compilation of analogous data reported for these limpet species throughout their distributional range. Overall, the general trends in relative growth are discussed in terms of the species life habits, main traits and functional morphology.

Psychosocial variables are key factors influencing the delicate equilibrium of chronic patients during crisis time. In this study, we explored distress, anxiety, depression, loneliness, coping strategies, and changes in life habits in 43 beta-thalassemia patients and 86 controls during Covid-19 pandemic. Patients showed higher anxiety levels and a predominant transcendent coping profile compared to controls. Patients significantly differed from controls in outdoor habits. Social isolation and habits changes in uncertain life-threaten situations as Covid-19 pandemic are particularly detrimental in fragile beta-thalassemia patients. Structured support interventions are needed to promote well-being in the Covid-19 era.
