Abstract A low temperature (-110°C) X-ray structural analysis of PCI3 yielded the bond distances P-Cl = 203.43(12) and 201.86(23) pm and bond angles Cl-P-Cl = 100.04(7)° and 100.19(7)°. The shortest intermolecular contacts P ··· Cl and Cl ···C1 are in the range of the sum of van der Waals-radii

A low temperature (-90 °C) X-ray structural analysis of S6 single crystals yielded improved data for the bond distances (206.8 pm), bond angles (102.6°), and torsion angles (73.8°) of the D3d molecule which are in agreement with current theories of homonuclear sulfur bonds.

Abstract The crystal structure of the known title compound was determined by low-temperature X-ray diffraction (orthorhombic, space group Pbcn, Z = 4). The molecule displays an unusually short O-N bond, a relatively long C-O bond and a moderately pyramidal O-NS2 skeleton (O-N 133.1, C-O 148.5 pm, sum of bond angles at N: 347.4°).

Adiponitrile, C6H8N2, is a key intermediate in the synthesis of the polyamide Nylon 66 and is produced industrially on a large scale. We have determined the crystal and molecular structure of adiponitrile by single-crystal X-ray analysis at 100 K, a suitable crystal (m.p. 275 K) having been grown from the melt at low temperature. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 2. In the crystal structure, the molecule adopts an exact C i-symmetric gauche–anti–gauche conformation of the C—C—C—C skeleton about an inversion centre. The molecules are densely packed, with short intermolecular contacts between the α-H and nitrile N atoms.

Reaction of square planar [PtII(C≡CPh)(tpy)]+ (tpy = 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine) with bromine at low temperature provides a general route for the synthesis of octahedral alkynyl(terpyridine)platinum(IV) complex. In this first example of alkynyl(terpyridine)platinum(IV) complex, the alkynyl group is situated in trans position relative to the central nitrogen atom of the terpyridine ligand, and the two bromido ligands are situated in trans positions; an X-ray structural analysis has been completed for trans(Br)-[PtIVBr2(C≡CPh)(tpy)]+.

X-ray analysis of the title compound reveals that the molecule relieves steric strain in the fjord region by small adjustments of some bonding parameters rather than any remarkable helical twist. The results show that a (C–)H···N contact shorter than the van der Waals radii of the H and N atoms is an energetically favourable interaction.

The chiral title compounds, C21H18N2O2, (I), and C21H18N2OS, (II) – products of the three-component reaction between benzylamine, isatoic anhydride and furyl- or thienyl-acrolein – are isostructural and form isomorphous racemic crystals. The tetrahydropyrimidine ring in (I) and (II) adopts a sofa conformation. The amino N atom has a trigonal–pyramidal geometry [sum of the bond angles is 347.0° for both (I) and (II)], whereas the amido N atom is flat [sum of the bond angles is 359.3° for both (I) and (II)]. The furyl- and thienylethenyl substituents in (I) and (II) are planar and the conformation about the bridging C=C bond isE. These bulky fragments occupy the axial position at the quaternary C atom of the tetrahydropyrimidine ring, apparently, due to steric reasons. In the crystals, molecules of (I) and (II) form hydrogen-bonded helicoidal chains propagating along [010] by strong intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds.

Potassium tetraperoxomolybdate (VI) K2[Mo(O2)4] was prepared, and its X-ray powder diffraction pattern was recorded at low temperature (258 K). The unit cell parameters were refined to a=10.7891(2) Å, α=64.925(3)°, space group R−3c (167), Z=6. The compound is isostructural with potassium tetraperoxotungstate (VI) K2[W(O2)4] (Stomberg, 1988). The sample of K2[Mo(O2)4] was characterized by analytical investigations, and the results of crystal structure refinement by Rietveld method are presented; final RP and RWP are 9.79% and 12.37%, respectively.

The title compound was synthesized as part of an effort to produce a more effective fungicide to combat Dutch Elm Disease (DED), which is caused by the fungus Ceratocystisulmi. A full X-ray structural analysis of the 1:1 adduct has been carried out and the results are reported along with the Mössbauer data for the compound. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/a with a = 19.240(3) Å, b = 9.1463(24) Å, c = 19.3512(24) Å, β = 118.874(8)°, V = 2982.0(10) Å3, z = 4, and Dcalc = 1.427 Mg m−3. The final discrepancy factors are RF = 0.056 and Rw = 0.058 for 1915 significant reflections. The QS and IS values in the Mössbauer spectrum of the complex are 3.08 mm s−1 and 1.28 mm s−1, respectively. The 2,3-diphenylthiazolidin-4-one behaves as a monodentate ligand and coordinates to the tin through the oxygen atom. The complex exhibits a trigonal bipyramidal configuration with the three phenyl groups in equatorial positions and the chloride and ligand oxygen occupying the apical sites. Keywords: triorganotin, fungicide, Dutch Elm Disease, thiazolidin-4-one.
