Groundwater is described as the water found beneath the surface of the earth in underground streams and aquifers and has become popular as a source of drinking potable water in Nigeria due to its quality when compared to other water sources. The Electrical resistivity method was employed in Imakun Omi Community, a coastal town in Ogun Waterside Local government area of  Ogun State with the aim of determining the groundwater potential of the area. A total of twenty (20) Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) points were carried out in the area using the Schlumberger configuration with maximum current electrode separation (AB) of 300m using the ABEM SAS 1000 Terrameter. The results obtained were interpreted quantitatively and qualitatively using partial curve matching and computer iteration programs WINRESIST and SURFER 11 for the interpretation from which the reflection coefficient was computed. The groundwater potential of the rock units were evaluated and  40% of the stations show  high yield, 50% of the stations show medium yield and 10% of the stations was observed to have low yield. The aquifer thicknesses are very thick with values ranging from 6.9 m to 79.3 m, hence an average of 43.1mand overburden thicknesses ranging from 9.7m to 96.5 m, with an average of 53.1m

Samples of Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+δ superconductor were prepared by solid-state reaction method to study the effects of gold nanoparticles addition to the superconducting system, Nano-Au was introduced by small weight percentages (0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.0, and 1.25 weight %). Phase identification and microstructuralcharacterization of the samples were investigated using XRD and SEM. Moreover, DC electrical resistivity as a function of the temperature, critical current density Jc, AC magnetic susceptibility, and DC magnetization measurements were carried to evaluate the relative performance of samples. x-ray diffraction analysis showed that both (Bi,Pb)-2223 and Bi-2212 phases coexist in the samples having an orthorhombic crystal structure. Both the onset critical temperatures Tc (onset) and zero electrical resistivity critical temperatures Tc (R=0) of the samples were determined from the DC electrical resistivity measurements. An improvement of the superconducting transition temperature of 6.36 % was obtained with increasing Au nanoparticles to x = 1.25 wt.%, while the critical current density is improved by 220 %. AC magnetic susceptibility measurement showed that the diamagnetic fraction and intergranular coupling of the x = 1.25 wt.% sample are greater than those of the others. The variation of magnetization with temperature (M-T curve) of the samples was measured by cooling the sample in zero fields (ZFC) and an applied field of 10 Oe (FC). The results of AC magnetic susceptibility and DC magnetization measurements were in good agreement with DC electrical resistivity measurement.

AbstractThis paper is devoted to the application of the Combined Resistivity Sounding and Profiling electrode configuration (CRSP) to detect underground cavities. Electrical resistivity surveying is among the most favorite geophysical methods due to its nondestructive and economical properties in a wide range of geosciences. Several types of the electrode arrays are applied to detect different certain objectives. In one hand, the electrode array plays an important role in determination of output resolution and depth of investigations in all resistivity surveys. On the other hand, they have their own merits and demerits in terms of depth of investigations, signal strength, and sensitivity to resistivity variations. In this article several synthetic models, simulating different conditions of cavity occurrence, were used to examine the responses of some conventional electrode arrays and also CRSP array. The results showed that CRSP electrode configuration can detect the desired objectives with a higher resolution rather than some other types of arrays. Also a field case study was discussed in which electrical resistivity approach was conducted in Abshenasan expressway (Tehran, Iran) U-turn bridge site for detecting potential cavities and/or filling loose materials. The results led to detect an aqueduct tunnel passing beneath the study area.

The ultimate aim of the electrical resistivity survey is to determine the resistivity distribution with depth on the basis of surface measurements of the apparent resistivity and to interpret it in terms of geology. Marble deposit was investigated with the application of electrical resistivity method using Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) technique with the aim of characterising this deposit in parts of Okpella. Six (6) VES were acquired using the Schlumberger array for data acquisition with current electrode spacing varying from 1.0 to 150.0 m. The VES data obtained were interpreted using ipi2win Software. The results showed three layers indicating subsurface geologic sequence probed 26.4 m and beyond with clay/clayey sand (23.3 – 219.1 Ωm), sand (423 - 2040 Ωm) and marble (12661 - 404498 Ωm). The occurrence of marble deposit was revealed at VES points at 1, 2 and 5 in the studied area.  This study concluded that the study area had occurrence of the marble deposits, which would be of economic importance, if exploited.
