The results of assessing the ecological state of lands disturbed during the open-cut mining of four coal deposits in the Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions are presented. In the course of the studies carried out using the results of remote monitoring, it was found that ecologically acceptable restoration of vegetation cover on the territory of disturbed lands occurs as a result of reclamation work and natural processes of its self-restoration.

The article analyzes and provides data on the processes of accumulation of heavy metals by bottom sediments from the point of view of environmental assessment. The purpose of this paper is to identify the degree of anthropogenic influence on the lakes of the Tazovskiy and Surgut districts, and assess the ecological state of water bodies and adjacent territories. The main processes occurring in natural reservoirs, which lead to the transfer of toxicants into the environment, are considered. The data of quantitative chemical analysis of bottom sediments of two groups of natural reservoirs with an assessment of their ecological state according to the results of statistical processing of the measured values were obtained. Excess concentrations of metals were recorded: for mobile forms – 2200 times for Fe, 1050 times for Mn, 35 times for Cr, 20 times for Co, up to 15 times for Ni, 5 times for Cu, 3 times for Pb, for acid-soluble forms – 45 000 times for Fe, 550 times for Pb, up to 75 times for Ni, 525 times for Mn, 105 times for Cr, 50 times for Cu, 16 times for Co. The geochemical interpretation of the results of the factor analysis is presented.

Based on our own field and laboratory studies, the morphological changes of oil-contaminated floodplain soils, as well as their classification, are shown. The characteristic of the patterns of transformations of the main parameters of the physicochemical state of soils (Corg, pH, composition of the water extract, particle size distribution of the soils) is presented – practical recommendations are given on the implementation of the reclamation process.

The study’s results of various lakes located on the border of the forest and forest-steppe areas of Siberia, Altai and Kazakhstan are presented in the article. This research was carried out by participants of the international Russian-German expedition “Following the Traces of Alexander von Humboldt in Western Siberia, Altai and East Kazakhstan”, devoted to the 250th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist and the 190th anniversary of his expedition to the Russian Empire. The results of geochemical and pollen analyses of water samples and lake sediments are presented. An assessment of the ecological state of the lakes is given, as well as a rapid assessment of the ecological state of the studied regions.

The results of remote monitoring of the ecological state of waste dumps and storages of processed diamond-bearing rock are presented. Low rates of restoration of vegetation cover at these objects of the mining landscape, formed during the development of kimberlite pipes, were revealed. To accelerate the restoration of vegetation on the territory of disturbed lands, a set of special works on technical and biological reclamation is proposed.
