Identifying Determinants of Residential Property Values in South London This paper advances the academic work conducted on identifying some of the determinants of residential property values in different countries. Such determinants might include positive factors such as access to amenities, or negative factors such as high voltage overhead transmission lines (HVOTL). The objective explored here is to extend this research in the UK by considering the particular case of residential property values in South London. A number of determinants is considered, grouped and a model which explains the effect of the determinants on value is produced. The elasticities between property values and the distances from different determinants were also analysed to help highlight relationships between the determinants and residential property values. The results showed a relationship between residential property values and the determinants, and a relationship between the determinants themselves.

The paper presents the possibility of using GIS tools and 3D graphic software to assess the impact of high voltage overhead transmission lines on the landscape. The paper uses a digital elevation model developed on the basis of airborne laser scanning data. In addition, potential locations and high voltage overhead transmission lines tower heights have been used. The Viewshed tool available in the ArcGIS software made it possible to calculate the visibility range of tower. To limit the spatial range of the analysis 3D simulations were carried out in Blender version 2.79. Visibility range analysis was performed in the range from 250 m to 3000 m in steps of 250 m. The render analysis in relation to the percentage of the area occupied by the HVOTLs tower in the total field of view, allowed to limit the range of the analysis. Calculations have shown that the range of the HVOTLs tower impact assessment should be limited to 2 km. The very strong and strong visual impact of the tower range from 0 to 250 m. In contrast, there is a significant impact between 251 m and 750 m and a moderate and weak impact above 750 m.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine whether the discount placed on high voltage overhead transmission lines is underestimated. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative analysis was undertaken, using a high voltage overhead transmission line (HVOTL) case study, to determine the effect on property values prior and post removal of the HVOTL structure. Sales data and demographics are compared to determine the change in neighbourhood characteristics. Findings The results show that while the HVOTL is in place, the impact on value is confined to those properties in close proximity. This is in contradiction to the findings, where on removal of the HVOTL, the property values of the whole neighbourhood improve significantly. Research limitations/implications The implication of this research is that property valuers (appraisers) need to change the way they take into account the presence of HVOTLs when valuing property, with more emphasis, being placed on the neighbourhood rather than just the properties in close proximity. While the HVOTL was in place, only properties in close proximity were negatively affected, but on removal of the HVOTL the whole neighbourhood increased in value. Originality/value Results expand on current knowledge by demonstrating the difference between the discount rate that the valuers apply to the presence of the HVOTL, as compared to the positive impact to the whole neighbourhood on removal of the HVOTL.

The paper is devoted to the use of RFID-technology in electrical power engineering, in particular, for controlling the condition of high-voltage equipment of feeding transmission lines. It also describes studies on development of RFID-tag designed to indicate dielectric condition of line polymer insulator. The authors present results of tests of pilot samples of LKi-70/110-4-GP-UKhL1 polymer stick insulators with built-in RFID-indicators. The tests have been executed in accordance with the GOST R 55189-2012 requirements. As a result, the authors have made a conclusion on the possibility of using RFID-technologies for technical control of insulators on overhead transmission lines, high-voltage equipment of traction and transformer substations.

Lighting is one of the important reasons of transmission line trip accident. For 330kV and above ultra high voltage transmission line, lighting flashover more frequently occur. To reduce tripping rate effectively and fundamentally, lightning over voltage level should be analyzed besides anti-pollution flashover. In this paper, a simplified equivalent circuit model of a 330kV overhead transmission lines is established. The lightning over voltage of the transmission is analyzed and calculated. Method to reduce the lightning overvoltage is discussed.
