The provision of the energy system of Ukraine with a stable supply of coal in the long term demands calculation of the capacity of the exploitable deposits. Ukrainian deposits are characterized by insignificant thickness and complicated mining-geological conditions, which significantly complicates the mining process. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and use new energy-efficient technologies of coal mining. The article evaluates the criteria of usefulness of thin layers of deposits in the Western Donbass, which contains 25 bn t of coal, i.e 21.3% of total resources of the country, for processing in selective technology. According to the geologicstructural factor, we distinguished the fields of mines of hydrodynamically “open” and “close” types, the water inflows of which differ by a factor of ten. Taking the example of the mines of the east group, we ascertained the potential of the most promising coal reserves, which are appropriate for mining using selective technology. It was established that in these conditions, selective technology of coal excavation would not only allow a decrease in the ash content of the coal output, but would also prolong the period of the industries` operation. Backfilling of mined-out areas decreases the technogenic load on the underground and surface hydrosphere, decreases the subsidence of the surface and the volume of waste rocks.

In accordance with the long-term program for the coal industry development in Russia until 2030, the growth in the share of the Far East Federal District in the total coal production should be 2.5% compared to 2018. Production volumes in the Siberian Federal District to 2030 should reach 309.5 million tons. These numbers are planned to be achieved through the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects for the development of new coal deposits with convenient mining and geological conditions, as well as the creation of new coal mining centres in Yakutia, Zabaykalsky region, Tyva Republic and other eastern regions of Russia. Taking into account the development of power generating facilities in Far East and Baikal region, coal consumption is planned to increase from 119 million tons in 2020 to 150 million tons per year in 2030. The realization of the planned indicators should be carried out taking into account the use of coal mining technologies that meet the mining and geological conditions of the deposits in this region. For a large number of coal fields in Eastern Siberia and Far East, transportless technology will be preferred.

Abstract The article presents an overview of the current situation of awareness of the Latvian citizens in the field of state-of-the-art energy-saving technologies. The authors present a wide range of data obtained as a result of a survey on the attitude of residents to new technologies and readiness to follow the development trends of a smart city. The article contains the analysis and recommendations for improving the efficiency of introducing new energy-saving and energy-efficient technologies into each household in order to create the most favourable conditions for the implementation of long-term plans for the development of smart cities in Latvia.

The eastern regions of Russia have a substantial potential for expansion of steaming coal production. The majority of coal deposits in the eastern regions are located close enough to the objects of the Asian super ring. The large coal reserves make it possible to consider it as a reliable fuel source for power plants for a long-term horizon. The coal reserves suitable for using at power plants of the Asian super ring are estimated in the paper by subject of the federation of the eastern regions for operating and new coal producers. The coal deposits of the eastern regions that are promising for the construction of power plants of the Asian super ring are presented. The paper describes both the coal deposits of the eastern regions that are considered in the projects for power plant construction and included in the program documents and the coal deposits that are not included in the program documents. The coal reserves of these deposits and the possible volumes of its production are estimated. The key qualitative coal characteristics of the deposits: heating value, and ash, sulfur, moisture content are presented. The mining-geological and hydrological conditions for deposit development are briefly characterized. The coals of the eastern regions are showed to contain valuable accompanying elements. It is noted that the creation of industrial clusters on the basis of the coal deposits is the most effective from the standpoints of the economy and ecology. The favorable and restraining factors in development of the described coal deposits are estimated.

AbstractA new industrial revolution is on the verge in the energy domain considering the knowledge and skills acquired through the development of new energy technologies. Shale gas processing, unconventional oil exploitation, new exploring/drilling methods, mature renewable energy or in progress, all generated a wealth of knowledge in new technology. Therefore, this paper aims to analyse the positive and negative aspects of energy solutions, and to reveal the way to a world where a valid sustainable development, based on safe and rational premises, is actually considered. The paper also introduces suggestions for the energy system, which has a crucial importance in coping with the resource management of the future, where the economic, social, and environmental/climate needs of the post-crisis world should be suitably considered.
