In this note, we present new locality records and extend the known geographical distribution and elevation range of the dwarf iguana Enyalioides touzeti in southern Ecuador. Presence of E. touzeti in heavily deforested coastal regions of southwestern Ecuador suggests an urgent need for research to evaluate its conservation status.

Abstract. Saensouk P, Saensouk S. 2021. Taxonomic studies and three new records on genus Geostachys (Baker) Ridl. in Thailand. Biodiversitas 22: 3057-3067. A comprehensive taxonomic study and three new records of genus Geostachys (Baker) Ridl. in Thailand have not been reported. This research aimed to study the taxonomical aspect of the genus Geostachys in Thailand based on herbarium collections, fresh materials, and available literatures. Nine species of Geostachys have been recognized with their updated nomenclature in Thailand, namely G. angustifolia K. Larsen, G. chayanii Mayoe, G. decurvata (Baker) Ridl., G. holttumii K. Larsen, G. kerrii K. Larsen, G. penangensis Ridl., G. pierreana Gagnep., G. smitinandii K. Larsen, and. G. tratensis Picheans. & Mayoe. Three species, namely G. decurvata, G. pierreana, and G. penangensis are found to be new records to Thailand. Six species, namely G. angustifolia, G. chayanii, G. holttumii, G. kerrii, G. smitinandii, and G. tratensis were endemic to Thailand. The identification key to species, detailed descriptions, photographs, vernacular name, geographical distribution, ecology, phenology, conservation status, and taxonomic notes have been provided.

Griffinia capixabae, a new species of Amaryllidaceae restricted to the mountainous region of the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, and classified as endangered, is described and illustrated herein. It is morphologically similar to G. intermedia, but can be distinguished by its completely free spathe bracts, smaller overall perigone length, longer hypanthium, the lack of spots on the center of the sepals and petals, and smaller seeds. The new species is illustrated with photographs and a drawing; geographical distribution, habitat, phenology and conservation status are discussed. The paper also reassesses G. concinna as a valid species name, with a more detailed description and distribution including new records for the state of Espírito Santo. An identification key for the species with larger flowers and leaves of the genus is provided.

Eriocaulon itapevense, a new species from the Coastal Plain grasslands of Southern Brazil, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to E. magnificum, from which it differs mainly by the pubescent and opaque-green to greyish leaves, spathes and scapes, the strongly cucullate and pungent leaf apex, the longer lateral slit of the spathe, the longer and wider involucral bracts, and the rhombic-spathulate median petals of the pistillate flowers. The description of the new species is accompanied by photos and line drawings, information on geographical distribution, habitat and a conservation status assessments. Additionally, we provide an annotated checklist and an identification key for the Eriocaulaceae from the Coastal Plain grasslands of Southern Brazil. Our checklist comprises five genera and nine species, including Eriocaulon arechavaletae and Paepalanthus planifolius, which are new records for this region.

We provide new records of Potos flavus from 2 localities in the states of Goiás and Mato Grosso, central Brazil. These records extend the geographical distribution of this species in the Cerrado biome and highlights the importance of future research on this species. These new distributional data may contribute to a re-evaluation of its conservation status.

Español.  Se dan a conocer nuevas localizaciones y datos corológicos para 98 especies (61 Rhodophyta, 22 Ochrophyta, 15 Chlorophyta) de algas bentónicas marinas recolectadas en el intermareal y submareal de más de 80 localidades de las costas atlánticas y cantábricas de la Península Ibérica. Polysiphonia devoniensis, P. fibrata y Zonaria tournefortii son novedad para Portugal y 5 especies (Bonnemaisonia hamifera, Calosiphonia vermicularis, P. devoniensis, Hincksia intermedia y Derbesia marina stadium Halicystis ovalis) son nuevas citas para Galicia. Paralelamente, se aportan 101 primeras citas provinciales (2 Guipúzcoa, 1 Vizcaya, 8 Cantabria, 5 Asturias, 7 Lugo, 1 A Coruña, 8 Pontevedra, 1 Beira litoral, 15 Estremadura, 20 Alentejo, 25 Algarve y 8 Cádiz) y, además, se dan a conocer 108 segundas citas provinciales. Aunque la flora bentónica marina del Atlántico Peninsular ha sido objeto de numerosos estudios, estos nuevos hallazgos corológicos ponen en evidencia que todavía son necesarios más estudios florísticos en estas costas.English.  In this work, we provide new records and geographical distribution data for 98 seaweeds (61 Rhodophyta, 22 Ochrophyta, 15 Chlorophyta) inhabiting more than 80 sites (intertidal and subtidal) of the Atlantic Iberian Peninsula. Pimpinella ibradiensis, an unusual new species found in the Toka Yayla (İbradı, Antalya) in southern Anatolia, is described and illustrated. Site conditions, synecology and conservation status of P. ibradiensis are considered. In light of the comparison with the other closely related four species, namely P. nephrophylla, P. flabellifolia, P. sintenisii and P. paucidentata, its similarity within the genus are discussed. P. ibradiensis is easly distinguished from its relatives by its white petals, presence of bracts and bracteoles, larger fruits (4–5.5 × 1–2 mm), and having serrulate basal leaves with 60–95 strongly cartilaginous teeth along margins. The geographical distribution of P. ibradiensis and closely related species are mapped and the identification key of those species is updated.

The geographical distribution of Muscidae from Latin America has been extended. The following eight genera, including 28 species, were collected: Cyrtoneurina (2 spp.), Cyrtoneuropsis (8 spp.), Dolichophaonia (1 sp.), Neomuscina (7 spp.), Ophyra (1 sp.), Phaonia (2 spp.), Philornis (5 spp.), and Polietina (2 spp.). New records and additional collecting data have been provided for Brazil, Colombia, and Costa Rica, including reference maps for the species listed.

SummaryThe Santa Marta Foliage-gleaner Automolus rufipectus is one of 19 endemic bird species found in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM) in northern Colombia but until recently it was considered a sub-species of the Ruddy Foliage-gleaner Automolus rubiginosus. Consequently, published information on its distribution and ecology is lacking, and while it is classified as near- threatened, this designation was based on limited quantitative data. To improve our knowledge of the Santa Marta Foliage-gleaner’s geographical distribution, elevation range, population density, habitat use and conservation status, we analysed both historical and recent site locality records and carried out variable distance transects within forested habitats and shade coffee plantations. We modelled the environmental niche of the species and subsequently estimated its extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, as well as population size. Our results consistently showed that the distribution of the Santa Marta Foliage-gleaner is more restricted than previously considered, both geographically and by elevation (we redefine elevation range as 600–1,875 m). This suggests that the species is more at risk of habitat transformation and combined with our estimates of population size (< 10,000 individuals), it is likely that the species will be uplisted to a higher threat category. More positively, and contrary to published accounts, we found that approximately 40% of the species’ range lies within protected areas. Nevertheless, we recommend the implementation of strategies to maintain forest cover on the western flank of the SNSM and further research to better define the species’ habitat needs and population dynamics.
