O objetivo deste trabalho é propor uma metodologia de avaliação para os periódicos científicos de contabilidade e auditoria publicados em língua inglesa e disponibilizados no Portal de Periódicos da CAPES. A justificativa para a realização deste estudo baseia-se em duas premissas: a necessidade de uma inserção internacional da pesquisa contábil brasileira e a inexistência de uma avaliação pela CAPES dos periódicos estrangeiros. As revistas acadêmicas que continham as palavras accounting ou auditing em seus títulos foram selecionadas. Após a eliminação dos periódicos não-acadêmicos, 40 journals foram analisados. A coleta dos dados foi realizada principalmente nos sites eletrônicos de cada periódico e envolveu a análise dos seguintes aspectos: corpo editorial (editorial board) e sua internacionalização, instrução para os autores (guide for authors), enfoque (aim/focus), revisão às cegas (blind review), indexação ao SCOPUS, indexação ao Institute of Scientifc Information, grau de impacto de acordo com o Journal Citation Report e índice de temporalidade. Para se coletarem as informações referentes à taxa de corte (cut rate), foram enviados e-mails aos editores responsáveis (chief editor) de cada periódico. Com base nos critérios propostos, 8 revistas foram classificadas com o conceito "A", 20 com "B" e 12 com "C", sendo que o Journal of Accounting Research (JAR), o Journal of Accounting and Economics (JAE), e o The Accounting Review (TAR) foram os três periódicos com maior pontuação. Esta pesquisa visa contribuir para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa contábil brasileira à medida que propõe uma metodologia alternativa para avaliação de periódicos científicos.

Since 2003, the journal of Laser and Particle Beams no longer publishes conference proceedings. Even of those conferences where the topics are very closely related to the research fields discussed in this journal. Authors are instead encouraged to submit a regular paper dealing with the topic presented during a conference. The advantage for authors is that there is no page limit as long as the paper passes the peer review process. The discussion of the presented research during the conference helps reviewers to evaluate the quality of the paper and this usually leads to a speedy publication process. Every year in June, the ISI Web of Knowledge releases the Journal Citation Reports. The publication policy adopted by the Laser and Particle Beams editorial board was obviously quite successful since we experienced a substantial increase in the impact factor and in the immediacy index. Thus the Journal Citation Report lists Laser and Particle Beams now as a leading journal in the field of applied physics. This is an opportunity to thank authors for their high quality contributions to this journal. The publisher and the editorial board will try to continue to improve the service to readers and authors during the upcoming years.

This is an interview with Dr Wilma Vialle, Ph.D, Professor in Educational Psychology and Gifted Education in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Dr Vialle is the author of several books, articles, and chapters on gifted education and child psychology. Her research interests are centred on giftedness and talent development and she is predominantly interested in issues concerning social justice. Recent research projects include an international study of effective teachers of the gifted, a longitudinal study of adolescent academic and social emotional outcomes, the development of expertise in competitive Scrabble players, popular culture and giftedness, and the development of spiritual understanding in children. Dr Vialle is the chief editor of the journal Talent Development and Excellence and is on the editorial board of several international journals. She is also on the Executive Board of the International Research Association for Talent Development and Excellence (IRATDE). In 2006, Dr Vialle was awarded the Eminent Australian award by the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) for her contributions to gifted education.

Introdução: O aumento de títulos de periódicos brasileiros indexados no Journal Citation Report desde 2008 não tem sido acompanhado de aumento de citações recebidas. Ou seja, as últimas edições de desse relatório revelaram o baixo desempenho dos periódicos brasileiros no Fator de Impacto. Neste estudo busca-se explicar o porquê desse baixo desempenho. Método: Aplicação de técnicas bibliométricas, utilizando o software livre BibExcel. O corpus compreendeu 797 artigos de pesquisa publicados em periódicos indexados na Scopus - no período de 2009 a 2010 - por pesquisadores na área de Odontologia da Universidade de São Paulo. Resultados: Verificou-se que, nesta área, os artigos brasileiros de alto impacto são publicados em periódicos estrangeiros igualmente de elevado Fator de Impacto. Pode-se dizer que existe um círculo vicioso que impede o aumento do Fator de Impacto de periódicos brasileiros o qual é identificado em dois movimentos: por um lado os pesquisadores brasileiros preferem publicar suas pesquisas de maior impacto em títulos de periódicos estrangeiros com alto Fator de Impacto, citando os mesmos títulos; por outro, os periódicos brasileiros que publicam artigos de pesquisadores brasileiros recebem citações, na sua maioria, de pesquisadores/periódicos brasileiros. Conclusão: A acessibilidade (acesso aberto) e a visibilidade (indexação) sozinhas não são suficientes para aumentar o impacto dos periódicos brasileiros de maneira globalizada, de forma a competir com os periódicos estrangeiros.

In previous editorial letters, data regarding the Journal positioning, visibility and management have been presented. Regarding positioning in citational databases, in Pavas (2015), a comparison among the results in databases like Scimago Journal Rank (SJR), Journal Citation Report (JCR), and Google Scholar (GS) is shown. In Pavas (2016a), the h5 index of the Colombian engineering journals is highlighted. In terms of the journal’s visibility, in Pavas (2016b), indicators up to December 2016 are presented. The editorial team of Ingeniería e Investigación Journal (I&I for their initials in Spanish) wants to share with the authors and readers some of their recent results.
