The effect of long heat treatment (single and double firing in a tunnel kiln) of samples based on a HBCS in Al2O3‒ SiO2‒SiC-system on their indicators was studied. Samples containing 15 % SiC and 1 and 2 % Si are characterized by a significant increase (up to 9 %) an increase in porosity and a decrease in strength compared to the original samples (without SiC) after long heat treatment (120 hours in the range of 1300‒1400 oC). A significant increase in the volume of the samples is due not only to the oxidation of SiC or Si, but also to additional mullite formation. It is assumed that sequentially following the process of oxidation of SiC at a certain stage of heat treatment, the process of mullitization proceeds due to the interaction of the newly formed SiO2 in the form of cristobalite with Al2O3 bauxite. The influence was investigated of the prolonged heat treatment on the samples properties prepared on base of the composite Al2O3‒SiO2‒SiC HCBS. The dispersion degree of the samples containing either 10 or 30 % of SiC varied within 3‒200 microns. The estimating method was proposed for the SiC oxidation degree in the composite. Depending on the samples composition the oxidation degree was within 50‒100 %. The ultimate bend strength and compressing strength SiC-containing samples attained the values of 80 and 390 MPa respectively. `````````````````````````````

Cement free castables (CFC) based on alumina hydraulic binders by the hardening mechanism are similar to low-cement castables (LCC) and ultra-low-cement castables (ULCC). They are characterized by significant strengthening in the heat treatment temperature range of 200‒300 °C and sharp softening in the 600‒1000 °C range. By introducing silica sols or microsilica into their composition, it is possible not only to reduce or eliminate the softening effect, but also to increase their strength after firing due to the process of mullite formation. Compared to LCC, CFC based on alumina binders are characterized by improved thermomechanical properties. A comparative assessment of CFC based on hydraulic binders with other types of refractory concretes is given.

This paperwork presents the results of a series of experiments on the use of homogenizing annealing, aimed at the possibility to control the structure and properties of steel samples obtained by aluminothermy. This method of processing, in some cases, allows to eliminate the need to use subsequent heat treatment operations due to the achievement of the required properties by the cast blank material. Refractory materials and thermite mixtures used, conditions for the production of castings and their total chemical composition are given. The tensile diagram analysis of the samples before and after heat treatment is presented; the structures and diffraction patterns of the samples’ destruction spots are considered. The material obtained by aluminothermy corresponds in its chemical composition to A1, A2, A3, A4 grade of steels for the rail transport according to GOST 31334-2007 which are used in the manufacture of locomotive axes and other rolling stock.

The article suggests recycling aluminium and pipe industry wastes in the production of refractory materials. New compositions of light fibrous concrete are developed, compared to the known structures they have improved physical and mechanical properties and a low cost. This is achieved due to the lack of heat treatment and utilization of industrial waste. Aluminous slag and sulphate sludge are stored in open landfills. Recycling of slag and sludge helps to improve the ecological state of environment. This article describes the chemical composition of the waste and suggests the optimal ratio of the mixture components. The properties of refractory fibrous concretes were defined at hardening of mixture in the natural conditions in the absence of heat treatment.

The rheological properties are described both for the initial (basic) HCBS of the composite bauxite and the same HCBS with 15 % SiC, as well as with the addition of 1 and 2 % of Si. The influence of the metal silicon addition was investigated, which decreased the sintering temperature and promoted the sealed porosity formation. It was established that in the materials containing Si addition, between the burning temperature of 1300‒1400 °C under the open porosity decreasing from 2,7 to 1,6 % the oxidation of SiC or Si can be slackened or inhibited. The dilatometric analysis showed that during the non-isothermal heating of the samples containing 10‒30 % of SiC, the certain degree of SiC oxidation can be noticed and the mullitization of the material became slower.
