This study investigating student’s achievement on the higher order thinking content knowledge in history lesson. A total of 200 upper secondary school students were given 40 objectives questions on higher order thinking content knowledge. The higher order thinking content knowledge was analysis using SPSS 24.0. The results showed that student’s application (f=54.8, %=75.1), analysis (f=40.8, %=55.9) and evaluation (f=40.2, %=55.0). The findings indicate that student’s achievement on the higher order thinking content knowledge (application, analysis and evaluation) in medium level. Therefore, the findings highlight the important of teacher in improving their pedagogy of teaching and  change their focusing to higher order thinking in history education.

This research was conducted to evaluate the learning experience of Grade Ten students from two Malaysian rural secondary schools that adopted the integration of STEM in an Engineering Design Process (STEM-EDP) approach vis-á-vis an outreach challenge program. A total of 89 students undertook a ten hour program which engaged them in designing and building three different prototypes as well as answering higher order thinking questions. Data on students’ learning experience were captured through participants’ responses to a six-point Likert scale questionnaire, teachers’ field notes, and open-ended questions. The questionnaire result reveals statistically significant gains in knowledge or skills about, attitudes toward, and practices on STEM. The STEM-EDP outreach challenge program brought awareness to rural school students of their potential as problem solvers, thinkers, creators, and collaborators. Students were able to simultaneously broaden their boundaries in knowledge and competency even though they experienced difficulties in tackling challenges associated with STEM activities. Findings suggested that the STEM-EDP approach can be applied as a means for fostering creativity, problem solving skills, and thinking skills among rural secondary school students. Background: In the field of artificial intelligence, programming self-efficacy plays an indispensable role in the success of programming learning. However, how to predict the level of students’ programming self-efficacy has not been addressed. Objective: To predict the level of programming self-efficacy among upper secondary school students in tobacco growing areas of Southwest China, this study used survey data to develop a decision tree model. Methods: First, a total of 512 questionnaires were collected by using the Academic Achievement Test, Creative Style Scale, Programming Learning Attitude Questionnaire, Motivation Scale, Higher-order Thinking Preferences Scale, and Programming Self-efficacy Scale. Secondly, a decision tree model was constructed by SPSS modeler 18.0. Results: The results showed that academic achievement, creativity style, programming learning, motivation, and higher-order thinking propensity were highly predictive of programming self-efficacy. Conclusions: This is the first study in the direction of educational technology and it represents a novel approach to predicting programming self-efficacy among upper secondary school students. The experimental analysis demonstrate that the encouraging results prove the practical feasibility of the approach.

This article discusses how to study protein chemistry meaningfully in the context of molecular gastronomy by supporting higher-order thinking skills. The instruction also includes several myths that the students can reflect on. Inquiry-based work is performed in the style of the Top Chef competition: the objective is to prepare the lightest and fluffiest meringue possible. The students act as so called investigating chemistry cooks. The instructions are suitable for secondary school and upper secondary school for studying chemistry of proteins, or for unifying chemistry and home economics in teaching.

<p class="0abstract"><strong>Abstract—</strong>21st Century teaching and learning strategies related to the various methods used include the use of appropriate tools with the latest technological developments to help students to understand clearly about the content of the subject. Therefore, the need for the 21st Century teaching more focused on the development of students' higher-order thinking skills is increasingly urgent. This study aims to develop mathematics learning media based on e-learning using MOODLE (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) software on the geometry of the flat side subject to improve higher-order thinking skills among secondary school students. The analysis in this study is based on the ADDIE Instructional Model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The respondents in this study were three lecturers who are experts in the field of mathematics education, three teachers in the field of information technology and 70 secondary school students in Yogyakarta, Indonesia was selected using the purposive sampling method. The findings of this study have shown that mathematics learning media based on e-learning using MOODLE very suitable for encouraging students to use the mind to understand, interpret, analyze and manipulate information to find possible solutions for various problems, especially related to the geometry of the flat side subject. Besides, based on mathematics learning media based on e-learning using MOODLE able to encourage students to think, to generate new ideas, to focus and to be active throughout the teaching and learning activities. The results of this study are expected can be one of the teaching tools which can help in learning activities and a catalyst for the improvement of the quality of students' thinking.</p>

This study introduces the Schoolwork Engagement Inventory (EDA), which measures energy, dedication, and absorption with respect to schoolwork. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the validity and reliability of the inventory among students attending postcomprehensive schools. A total of 1,530 (769 girls, 761 boys) students from 13 institutions (six upper-secondary and seven vocational schools) completed the EDA 1 year apart. The results showed that a one-factor solution had the most reliability and fitted best among the younger students, whereas a three-factor solution was most reliable and fit best among the older students. In terms of concurrent validity, depressive symptoms and school burnout were inversely related, and self-esteem and academic achievement were positively associated with EDA. Boys and upper-secondary-school students experienced lower levels of schoolwork engagement than girls and vocational-school students.
