The envelope convex subtraction of the first counting function x→π(x) is a convex set delimited from the top by a graph with a certain piece of the linear function x→ϵ(x). The vertices of this set (broken nodes) form an infinite series of points (e_k,π(e_k))_1^∞. In this paper we will present some observations on the sequence (e_k )_1^∞ suggested by the 2500 collection of its initial words.

In this work a class of functions is studied, which are built with the help of significant bits sequences on the ring ℤ2n. This class is built with use of a function ψ: ℤ2n → ℤ2. In public literature there are works in which ψ is a linear function. Here we will use a non-linear ψ function for this set. It is known that the period of a polynomial F in the ring ℤ2n is equal to T(mod 2)2α, where α∈ , n01- . The polynomials for which it is true that T(F) = T(F mod 2), in other words α = 0, are called marked polynomials. For our class we are going to use a polynomial with a maximum period as the characteristic polyomial. In the present work we show the bounds of the given class: non-linearity, the weight of the functions, the Hamming distance between functions. The Hamming distance between these functions and functions of other known classes is also given.

The presented experimental and digital examinations of a two-dimensional turbulent free jet are a first phase of in the study of the Coandă effect and its hysteresis. Additionally, basing on theoretical analyses, selected results for a turbulent jest have been also mentioned, considering theoretical assumptions for the wall layer. As the result, on the basis of experimental, digital, and analytical methods, a review of characteristic jet properties has been prepared, which includes a jet spreading ratio, its cross and longitudinal sections, and turbulence level. The jet spreading radio has been expressed as a non-linear function of the x : b relative length.

Porosity of the filtration cake, formed at filtration of model suspensions of CaCO3, BaCrO4 and ZnO is not a function of suspension concentration as long as the solid phase forming the suspension is of the same granulometric composition. The calculated surface area of the solid phase, effective as concerns filtration at ΔP = 30 kPa, is smaller than the actual surface area determined by absorption of nitrogen. Porosity of the filtration cake formed at filtration of suspensions of Mg(OH)2, CaCO3, SrCO3 and BaCO3 prepared by precipitation is a linear function of the initial concentration of precipitated solutions since it is affected by the size and polydispersity of originating particles in dependence on concentration of precipitated solutions. The cakes formed at filtration of precipitated suspensions of CaCO3, SrCO3 and BaCO3 aged for up to 2 hours from the instant of their preparation have a constant porosity which is independent of the time of suspension aging.

The conditions of the existence of extreme on the concentration dependences of absolute temperature (x are mole fractions) T = Tα(xkα) and T = Tβ(xkβ) denoting equilibrium between two binary regular solutions are generally developed under two assumptions: 1) Free enthalpy change of pure components k = i, j at transition from phase α to β is a linear function of temperature. 2) Concentration dependence of excess free enthalpy (identical with enthalpy) of solutions α and β, respectively, is described in regular model by one concentration and temperature independent parameter for each individual phase.

The dependence of the equivalent conductivity on the temperature and composition of the Ca(NO3)2-CaI2-H2O system was studied. The ionic fraction [I-]/([I-] + [NO-3]) was changed from 0.1 to 0.5, the mole fraction of calcium salts (assumed in anhydrous form in the presence of free water molecules) was 0.075-0.200. The equivalent conductivity was found to be a linear function of the ionic fraction at constant temperature and salt concentration.

AbstractWe consider a nonconvex mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model proposed by Goldberg et al. (Comput Optim Appl 58:523–541, 2014. 10.1007/s10589-014-9647-y) for piecewise linear function fitting. We show that this MINLP model is incomplete and can result in a piecewise linear curve that is not the graph of a function, because it misses a set of necessary constraints. We provide two counterexamples to illustrate this effect, and propose three alternative models that correct this behavior. We investigate the theoretical relationship between these models and evaluate their computational performance.
