With the changing scenario, there is vast increase in the number of working women.Women are competent enough to contribute for the betterment of any of the organisation. They are sharp, intelligent, empathetic, flexible and with energy to work hard for the both fronts i. e. office as well the home. They are with dual responsibility to manage multiple tasks at home and at the work. The increasing expectations at both ends make the situation difficult for women , as a result they face difficulty in maintaining a required balance between work and life. This lack of balance results in further problems for working women. Because of work overload, career aspirations, competition, peer pressure at workplace and child care, elder care, relationship maintenance, other household responsibilities at home, it becomes very difficult for females to contribute to the maximum at both ends. And because of this imbalance, females remain with some guilt and stress, as a result came across with many psychosocial tribulations, that may affect their performance as well as health also. And paper also revealed that working women with dual roles suffer from psychosocial problems and different strategies have also been discussed which can be of help to working women in maintaining a balance between work and life.

Work–life balance in the context of this paper means keeping a balance between home and workplace responsibilities and roles. In more traditional societies, such as in Pakistan, working women often find it difficult to keep a balance between their responsibilities in the workplace and their home responsibilities. This paper is based on findings from a qualitative research study that explored the perceptions of working women regarding their home–work responsibilities and how these impact their lives. Data were collected from 10 female academics working in a university in the north of Pakistan, using semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. Findings reveal that most women academics find it challenging to keep a balance between their home and workplace responsibilities. Participants faced a range of problems both at home and in the workplace that impacted their life in both places. These problems included lack of support and facilities at home and in the workplace. These problems, however, did not seem to deter them from carrying on with their work–home responsibilities. Some of the strategies the participants adopted to keep this balance included separating and scheduling home–work time, securing support of the family and utilising time in the workplace more productively. The downside of this, however, seemed to be that these women academics found little time for themselves as leisure time or time entirely devoted to their own mental and physical wellbeing. The research has important implications for working women, their employers, families and policy makers in Pakistan and other societies with similar contexts.

The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic upended work, family, and social life. These massive changes may have created shifts in exposure to work-life conflict. Using a national survey that followed Canadian workers from September 2019 into April and June 2020, the authors find that work-life conflict decreased among those with no children at home. In contrast, for those with children at home, the patterns depended on age of youngest child. Among individuals with children younger than 6 or between 6 and 12, no decreases in work-life conflict were observed. In contrast, those with teenagers did not differ from the child-free. Although these patterns did not significantly differ by gender, they were amplified among individuals with high work-home integration. These findings suggest an overall pattern of reduced work-life conflict during the pandemic—but also that these shifts were circumscribed by age of youngest child at home and the degree of work-home integration.
