Endometriosis of the fallopian tube is often incidentally picked up in hysterectomy specimens that are sent for histopathological examination for other obvious pathological conditions. Post-salpingectomy endometriosis is one such entity that is known to occur in the tip of the proximal stump of the fallopian tube years after tubal ligation. As mere visualization of the endometriotic lesions is inadequate for an accurate diagnosis, histopathologic analysis of the biopsy samples becomes mandatory for confirmation. We report a case of post salpingectomy endometriosis which was incidentally discovered in a peri menopausal lady who was operated for multiple fibroids of the uterus. This case not only highlights an entity which is challenging to visualize radiologically and suspect clinically, but is also underrecognized, as very little attention is given to the fallopian tube during routine grossing.

Extraskeletal chondroma (also known as ”Chondroma of soft parts”) is a cutaneous condition, a rare benign tumor of mature cartilage usually occurs in the hands, feet, head and neck. This tumor regularly presents as a small solitary nodule. The histogenesis of the cancer is controversial, but some have suggested a metaplastic origin. Chondroma of the fallopian tube is very rare. There are only three case reports in English literature. The source of this tumor can be subcoelomic mesenchyme of the tubal serosa or mesenchyme of the mesosalpinx. We describe a case of chondroma arising from the serosal surface of the fallopian tube with a review of the literature. A 30-yr-old woman with term pregnancy visited the hospital for cesarean section and tubal ligation. On operating findings, 1 1.5 cm sized nodular mass was noted in the left tubal serosal area. The excised mass showed a multilobulated appearance covered with a thin fibrous membrane. The cut surface was solid, grayish-yellow, and myxoid with a focal gelatinous area. The microscopic finding showed islands and elongated lobules of mature benign cartilage.

Cor triatriatum dextrum is an exceptionally rare congenital heart disease, in which the right atrium is partitioned into two chambers by a membrane to form a triatrial heart. It is caused by persistence of the right valve of sinus venosus. The aim of presenting this case is to develop awareness regarding cor triatriatum dextrum , though a rare case, can be present and may contribute to right heart failure and 2D-echocardiography is an important tool in making early and accurate diagnosis. We are reporting a case of an elderly Bangladeshi male presented with the features of mitral stenosis with pulmonary hypertension with CCF with respiratory tract infection, where cor triatriatum dextrum with an atrial septal defect was an incidental finding on routine echocardiographic assessment.Bangladesh Heart Journal 2016; 31(1) : 37-40

Xanthogranulomatous prostatitis is a rare benign inflammatory process of the prostate. Only few cases have been reported in the English literature. Xanthogranulomatous prostatitis is usually an incidental finding after needle biopsy or transurethral resection of the prostate in patients suffering from low urinary tract symptoms. We report the case of a 59-years-old patient diagnosed with prostatic abscess managed by transurethral resection of the prostate. Histopathological examination of resected prostatic tissue revealed abscessed xanthogranulomatous prostatitis with no evidence of malignancy. Xanthogranulomatous prostatitis presenting as a prostatic abscess is a rare finding. To the best of our knowledge our case represents the fourth case of xanthogranulomatous prostatitis presenting as prostatic abscess reported in the English literature so far.

Castleman’s diseas is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder of unknown etiology. We report a 28 years old woman with solitary Castleman’s disease in the left pararenal space. This case was diagnosed preoperatively as renal cell carcinoma. The patient underwent a radical nephrectomy with dissection of pararenal mass. Histopathological examination of the surgically resected specimen showed the hyaline vascular type of Castleman’s disease. A preoperative diagnosis of Castleman’s disease is difficult; therefore, a surgical resection and histopathological evaluation can provide an accurate diagnosis of tumor. Taking this case into consideration, we suggest that Castleman’s disease should be included in the differential diagnosis of renal tumors. Abstract Species of Hystrichis are parasite nematodes of the digestive tract of aquatic birds in South America, Europe and Asia. In Brazil, Hystrichis acanthocephalicus has been reported in Phimosus infuscatus. There are few data on the morphometry of this species and there are no reports on pathological conditions that it causes. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to report morphometric data from H. acanthocephalicus and describe the pathological effects of this parasite on the Phimosus infuscatus proventriculus. Thirty gastrointestinal tracts of P. infuscatus were examined to search for nematodes and H. acanthocephalicus occurred in 83% of hosts. Were measured the total length and body width of males and females, and of their respective cuticular spines, esophagus, spicules and eggs, and the internal and external diameter of copulatory bursa. Histopathological examination revealed parasitic structures in the proventriculus from the lumen (anterior end) to the outer layers of the organ (intermediate and posterior parts), in which we observed inflammatory reaction with infiltration of heterophils, hemorrhage and hemosiderin. The results of this study of histopathology, morphometry and parasitological indices are the first ones reported to H. acanthocephalicus and should contribute to the identification and recognition in cases of outbreaks in the Neotropical region.

The aim of this study was to investigate the compatibility of a fascia lata autograft for urinary bladder tissue defect, to evaluate the biomechanical, radiographical, macroscopical, biochemical, and histopathological test findings, and early and late complications of the surgical processes in rabbits. Thirty two adult healthy New Zealand rabbits were randomly allocated to 4 different groups of 8 animals. A 2 × 2 cm urinary bladder defect was repaired by the same size of fascia lata in experimental groups (Group 1, 2, 3). Rabbits in Group 1, 2 and 3 were euthanized at the end of the 4th, 8thand 12thweek after surgeries, respectively. No surgical procedure was carried out for the urinary bladder of the rabbits in the control group, but their urinary bladders were used for biomechanical tests and the values compared with those of Group 1, 2 and 3. Histopathological examination of the grafted area was performed. The grafted area was consistent with that of the tissue of urinary bladder. No significant difference was found between the urinary bladder and the grafted area. No differences in biomechanical tests were recorded between grafted and ungrafted urinary bladders. Histopathologically, fascia lata turned into a normal urinary bladder tissue. Therefore, a fascia lata autograft can be succesfully used in urinary bladder defects. Fascia lata grafts can be used successfully in pathological conditions of the urinary bladder that require a new tissue.

AbstractEndometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN) is a monoclonal neoplastic cell proliferation of the endometrium associated with a significantly increased risk of endometrioid endometrial adenocarcinoma. We herein present the case of a 58-year-old female patient who underwent a hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy because of the existence of endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia in an endometrial polyp. The patient had irregular uterine bleeding, which lasted 10 days. An endometrial polyp was diagnosed by ultrasound examination. The polyp was located in the isthmus of the uterus, on the back wall, and measured 32 mm × 25 mm. The patient underwent fractional dilation and curettage, and the specimens were subjected to a histopathological examination. The histopathological findings were EIN, endometrioid type, a focus of which was found within the endometrial polyps, as well as the endometrial polyp and proliferative endometrium. The endocervical tissue was normal. Given the age of the patient and the histopathological findings, she underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. The final histopathological findings were EIN, endometrioid type with a focus found within the endometrial polyp; endometrial polyp; simple hyperplasia; chronic inflammation of the uterine cervix; hyperkeratosis of the cervical squamous epithelium; and cervicitis chronica. There was also hydrosalpinx of the left fallopian tube, and cystic follicles in the left ovary. There was no significant morphological change in the right ovary or fallopian tube. The surgical and postoperative course were normal. The patient was sent home on the fifth postoperative day in good general condition. A check-up performed one month after surgery showed normal findings.
