Spontaneous migration of placental trophoblasts into maternal blood vessels and embolization to other organs (ie, lung, adrenal gland, spleen, and liver) occurs in women and certain animals with hemochorial placentation. Although considered incidental in most species, increased incidence and numbers of trophoblast emboli are reported in women with gestational diseases with arterial hypertension (pre-eclampsia and eclampsia). To the best of our knowledge, trophoblast emboli have not been reported in lagomorphs. This case report describes the identification of trophoblast emboli in the lung of a wild snowshoe hare ( Lepus americanus). Death of this hare was attributed to pulmonary hemorrhages and hemothorax, but a definitive cause for the hemorrhages was not determined. It is unclear whether trophoblast embolism normally occurs in this species and represents an incidental finding, or whether it possibly contributed to rupture of pulmonary or thoracic blood vessels leading to hemorrhage.

Supernumerary teeth may be encountered as an incidental finding on a radiograph. When impacted, they may be associated with clinical signs related to different problems such as failure of eruption, teeth displacement, root resorption or cystic lesions. They may occur in primary and permanent dentition, in both the maxilla and mandible and can be single or multiple in patients with syndromes. Mesiodens is the most commonly impacted tooth and appears between the central maxillary incisors in pediatric ages. Supernumerary teeth distal to the third molar are rare, usually impacted and referred to as a distomolar. A 46-year-old male consulted with the main complaint of pain on the left side of the maxilla. A panoramic radiograph revealed a right impacted maxillary fourth molar located posterior to the third molar associated with a pericoronal radiolucency. The supernumerary tooth was removed surgically under local anesthesia and the pericoronal lesion enucleated. Histopathological examination was consistent with the diagnosis of a dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted distomolar. Healing was uneventful, and the patients remained asymptomatic. The occurrence of a maxillary distomolar is rare and even rarer the association with a dentigerous cyst.

Objectives To present a rare variant of internal carotid artery anatomy. Methods Case report presenting CT angiography finding of internal carotid anatomy variant. Results We present the case of an unusual origin of the occipital artery from cervical portion of the internal carotid artery as an incidental finding during CT angiography of the carotid arteries. In discussion, we discuss the possible embryological basis, incidence and prevalence of such finding and its possible clinical implications. Conclusion One of the specific aspects of carotid arteries is their straightforward anatomy – the cervical portion of internal carotid artery, unlike the external carotid, does not give origin to any branches – this aspect is even used as a highlight for orientation, e.g. during ultrasound examination. However, although rare, variants exist, and sometimes can have clinical importance – in the endovascular access or surgical treatment.
