Shallot is one of the most popular onion crops at present. This is a multi-purpose crop in terms of possible use of its economically valuable features. In order to realize the potential of this crop, its varieties are needed. The work on the development of varieties adapted to the conditions of the south of West Siberia was carried out by the plant breeders of the West Siberian Vegetable Experimental Station from 1999 through 2018. The research goal was to study introduced and local forms of shallot variety accessions and to obtain varieties adapted to the conditions of Siberia with high indices of economically valuable features. In 1999, the plant breeders began working with the collection of shallot hybrid material obtained by polycross method at the Siberian Research Institute of Crop Production and Plant Breeding. Shallot variety accessions introduced in different climatic zones (Far East, Kazakhstan, Krasnodar, the Urals, Siberia, Non-Chernozem Zone and Holland) were used as initial forms for hybridization. Five variety accessions were obtained; they successfully underwent the State Variety Testing and were released.

There is a need to correct a historical imbalance of ornamental shrubs and, in particular, hybrids and cultivars of genus Syringa L. in the city of Novosibirsk. Recent ambitious projects of reconstruction of the present green areas and creating the new ones have enhanced the relevance of testing the cultivars which have been conducted at the CSBG SB RAS for 35 years. In order to study further the features of biology and freeze resistance under continental climate of the south of West Siberia, CSBG’s collection was completed with 54 new samples of cultivars of genus Syringa from 5 botanical institutions and nursery gardens located in the different climatic zones.

Представлены результаты изучения исходного материала столовой моркови и свеклы разного эколого-географического происхождения по устойчивости к патогенной флоре. Для условий Дальнего Востока созданы высокопродуктивные, устойчивые к патогенам сорта и гибриды столовых корнеплодов.The article presents the results of the study of the source material of table carrots and beets of different ecological and geographical origin for resistance to diseases. Geniuses for breeding of high-productive variety samples of root crops with rather high resistance to diseases in the conditions of the South of the Russian Far East are revealed.

Представлены результаты работы селекционеров Западно-Сибирской ООС – филиала ФГБНУ ФНЦО по культуре лука алтайского. Из 18 образцов были выделены перспективные, из которых в 2008 году отобран образец № 11. Дальнейший клоновый отбор позволил отобрать образец № 61/98, который по ряду показателей превосходит районированный сорт. В 2017 году этот образец передан на испытание в ГСИ, как сорт Виктор.The accomplishments of the plant breeders of the West Siberian Vegetable Experimental Station, the Branch of the Federal Scientific Centre of Vegetable Crop Production, regarding Altai onion cultivation are discussed. Eighteen candidate varieties were examined, promising ones were selected, and the candidate variety No. 11 was selected in 2008. Further clone selection made it possible to select the candidate variety No. 61/98 which exceeded the released variety in terms of a number of indices. In 2017, this candidate variety was submitted for State Variety Testing as Viktor variety.
