Informational literacy and the use of technologies by Secondary Education students in Spain: A descriptive study. The development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), together with their application to research carried out on educational areas, are factors which contribute to the promotion of a new educative model constructed on literacy-based competences and skills, and which sets technologies as essential tools for a life-long learning process (Unesco, 2005). This is the framework where we can insert the research that we are currently carrying out, funded by the research Program I+D+I of the Spanish Ministry of Education, and in the frame of which we are developing a diagnostic assessment of informational literacy competence in students between 14 and 16 years (Secondary Education), based on the fact that one of the main aspects in knowledge generation and acquisition is the capacity to use information extracted from documents and electronic resources, available in informational networks in a correct way. In this paper we present the results obtained from evidences on the contrast existing between the level of use of technologies (videogames, social networks...) and the level of informational literacy shown by students. The data were gathered from a sample of more than 1000 Secondary Education students who are around 15 years old.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in higher education for imparting easily accessible, affordable and quality higher education leading to the uplift of Malaysia. The focus of the paper is on the benefits that ICT integration in education can provide, right from breaking time and distance barriers to facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among geographically distributed students. ICT increases the flexibility of delivery of education so that learners can access knowledge anytime and anywhere. It can influence the way students are taught and how they learn as now the processes are learner driven and not by teachers. This in turn would better prepare the learners for lifelong learning as well as to contribute to the industry. We will also analyze if ICT does indeed improve or hinder the quality of learning among higher education students. This paper reports on the changing trends in use of ICTs for instruction in higher education institutions (HEIs) and discusses a mini-case study of how ICTs are being used by lecturers in one university in Malaysia.

As the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) increases in Zambia, there is a general concern about whether the use and eventual disposal of ICT hardware will have minimal impact on the environment. The grooming or modification of behavior of users for the future generation takes place in educational institutions. This paper therefore explored the level of use of ICTs in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) with regard to the awareness and adoption of green computing in these institutions. The results indicated that though there is a high level of use in the HEIs, the level of green computing awareness was simply moderate and the level of green computing adoption was low. Therefore, there is need for HEIs, the IT community and the legislative bodies to do more in introducing practices that will promote eco-friendly use and disposal of ICTs in Zambia.

Today, we live in an increasingly digital society, where Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are causing an impact at all ranges, in the educative even. The school must take on the challenge of effectively integrating ICT, promoting situations enriched with technologies in which methodology was the key factor in educational innovation processes. Rural schools must take up this challenge, assuming existing inequalities, but with the firm intention of overcoming them. From this perspective, the article presents a descriptive study of the use of ICT in rural schools in the Region of Murcia. The methodology chosen is mixed, and the collection of information has been carried out through an ad hoc questionnaire constructed for research. From the analysis of data, we have been able to know the needs in the availability of resources, and the didactic use that the teachers of the rural schools grouped together in the Region of Murcia make of the ICT, confirming that it is still difficult for them to leave behind traditional methodologies to give way to the educational innovation, through emerging technologies.
