The rapid development of new technologies and their impressive communication capacity has fundamentally changed modern democracy by providing easy and universal access to information, as well as increasing participation and accessibility of political involvement tools. One of the electoral participation tools is e-voting which has been used in only a few countries. The main aim of the paper is to explore whether and how e-voting has been presented in Polish mass media (1), as well as to investigate people’s opinions about e-voting against certain political factors (2). The research is based on a media content analysis (quantitative and qualitative), data collected via the Content Analysis System for Television (CAST) and a quantitative analysis of data from a survey conducted by the authors (2018, sample: 1717 Poles). The results of the analyses show that the debate on the implementation of e-voting is rather poor, but the support for e-voting among Poles remains considerable. The public media rhetoric is interlinked with attitudes towards political parties. To some extent, determinants are reflected in the public opinion on the implementation of e-voting since Poles declare both their support for the introduction of e-voting and willingness to vote online.

This chapter evaluates the pattern and trend of mass media coverage of Zimbabwe's cultural heritage, with a focus on the newspaper publications produced between the years 2010 and 2015. The working hypothesis is that the level and nature of mass media coverage of cultural heritage is directly proportional to the nature of public opinion and attitude towards their own cultural heritage. As such, in order for cultural heritage to make a meaningful contribution to socio-economic and political developmental in Zimbabwe, there is a need for cultural heritage to be visible in all mass media productions. Using document analysis, questionnaires, and interviews, the research identified that the coverage of cultural heritage in mass media in Zimbabwe is alarmingly low. That jeopardizes the regard of cultural heritage as a driver for socio-economic and political development amongst the public. However, through reprioritization of media agenda-setting, media policy, and fostering of a closer collaboration between heritage managers and media professionals, the situation can be salvaged in Zimbabwe.

When, to what extent and under what conditions autonomous driving will become common practice depends not only on the level of technical development but also on social acceptance. Therefore, the rapid development of autonomous driving systems raises the question of how the public perceives this technology. As the mass media are regarded as the main source of information for the lay audience, the news coverage is assumed to affect public opinion. The mass media are also frequently criticized for their inaccurate and biased news coverage. Against this backdrop, we conducted a content analysis of the news coverage of autonomous driving in five leading German newspapers. Findings show that media reporting on autonomous driving is not very detailed. They also indicate a slight positive bias in the balance of arguments and tonality. However, as soon as an accident involving an autonomous vehicle occurs, the frequency of reporting, as well as the extent of negativity and detail increase. We conclude that well-informed public opinion requires more differentiated reporting — irrespective of accidents.

RESUMOEste estudo teve como problema de pesquisa verificar como blogs/vlogs literários, enquanto meios de comunicação, podem influenciar a escolha leitora. Para isso, selecionou-se o vlog da Ju Cirqueira, blogueira do blog Nuvem Literária, para um estudo de caso. O objetivo geral foi identificar quais estratégias a blogueira utiliza que podem influenciar na escolha literária dos seus seguidores a partir de suas publicações/vídeos. Os objetivos específicos foram verificar as estratégias que a blogueira utiliza para transmitir suas mensagens e criar conexões, e se utiliza algum padrão em seus vídeos. Para tanto, abordou-se questões relacionadas à leitura, texto, práticas de leitura, formação de leitores e ato comunicativo. Os procedimentos metodológicos abrangeram uma parte quantitativa, em que foram destacados números de blogs existentes, perfil dos usuários e categorias de blogs, e uma parte qualitativa em que, por meio de categorização de análise proposta por Jeffman (2015) e de análise de conteúdo, examinou-se dez vídeos do canal da Ju Cirqueira. A partir dos dados coletados, pode-se ter uma amostragem de como são os blogs no Brasil, o perfil do público leitor de blogs e vlogs e características que fazem com que os booktubers fidelizem seus seguidores e, consequentemente, apresentem novas opções de leitura. Entre os padrões utilizados pela blogueira destacam-se a cultura do quarto, as estratégias de comunicação e a cultura de participação.Palavras-chave: Booktubers. Influência literária. Ju Cirqueira. Vlog. Formação do Leitor. ABSTRACTThis study aimed to verify how literary blogs/vlogs, as a means of communication, can influence te choice for reading. To this end, the vlog by Ju Cirqueira, blogger of the blog Nuvem Literária, was chosen for a case study. The goal of the survey was to look at how the blogger influences the literary choice of her followers, what strategies she uses to broadcast her messages and make connections, and whether she uses some pattern in her videos. The focus of the analysis was on concepts pertaining to reading, the text, reading practices, reader training and mass media. There were quantitative methodological procedures in which  numbers of existing blogs, profile of users and categories of blogs were sought; followed by  qualitative procedures carried out through categories of analysis and content analysis to look for patterns in ten videos of the channel of Ju Cirqueira. From the data collected, one can have a sampling of how blogs are in Brazil, the profile of the public readers of blogs and vlogs and characteristics that make booktubers loyal to their followers and, consequently, present new reading options. Among the different languages used in communication, we highlight the culture of the room, the communication strategies and the culture of participation.Keywords: Booktubers. Literacy influence. This paper provides a discussion on the perception of Malaysian media and environmental non-governmental organisations (ENGOs) on the role of images in shaping the public's mind about environmental matters. Two methods were employed for this study. First, a total of 24 participants from the Malaysian media and ENGOs were interviewed. Second, a total of 2,050 environmental articles on media newspapers and ENGOs newsletters from the period of 2012 to 2014 were collected for the quantitative content analysis. The findings from interview confirmed that pictures were labelled by journalists and ENGOs staff as the most important tool in presenting the reality of the environmental problems to the public. This is because, upon seeing the pictures accompanying environmental articles, readers will gain more trust of the environmental information. This was in harmony with the results of the quantitative content analysis, where more than 60% of pictures were found on environmental articles.

With the rapid development of “we media” technology, external information about the same sudden hot social event is often involved repetitiously, leading to frequent public opinion reversal. However, the phenomenon of public opinion reversal process usually has a long-lasting duration and spreads wide, making the event itself attract the widespread attention of ordinary people. Focusing on the public opinion reversal process of sudden social hot topic (a popular and widely discussed issue), this paper firstly identifies the internal and external factors that affect the reversal, namely individual internal characteristics and external intervention information. Secondly, information intensity and the amount of information perceived by individuals are introduced to describe the impact of external intervention information on the public opinion reversal. Thirdly, the parameters of individual attention and conservation are used to describe the process of individual’s selection of external information, so as to reveal the influence of the internal characteristics on public opinion reversal, and then build a public opinion reversal model. Fourthly, the effects of information intensity and individual attention, as well as individual conservation on the process of public opinion reversal are analyzed by simulation experiment. Simulation results show that: (1) the intensity of external intervention information affects the direction and degree of public opinion reversal; (2) when individual conservation is strong or individual attention is weak, even if external intervention information is strong, there will still be no obvious reversal of public opinion. Subsequently, the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed model are verified by a real case. Finally, some recommendations and policy implications are also given.
