In an innovation driven business environment, cross-border access to resources is important for companies to improve innovation capabilities and development performance. Based on the previous research, it shows that there are barriers to cross domain communication among alliance firms because of the restriction of multidimensional ties and dyads. Simmelian ties, as a form of alliance network with ternary connections, it effectively restrained opportunism and self-interest in the cooperation process and take a crucial role to evaluate innovation related performance in corporation. Based on the theory of Simmelian, this paper builds a theoretical framework and proposes corresponding research hypotheses between Simmelian ties and enterprise innovation performance. After designing questionnaires, collecting data and conducting empirical analysis to test theoretical models and hypotheses. Results have shown that: (1) Simmelian ties generally have a positive impact on enterprise innovation performance. (2) Knowledge capturing and knowledge integration play a partial intermediary role between Simmelian ties and enterprise innovation performance, and the mediating chain formed by the two variables plays a serial mediating role in the effect. (3) Network routines significantly positively moderates the relationship between Simmelian ties and knowledge capturing. And also, the positive relationship between Simmelian ties and enterprise innovation performance is also actively moderated by network routines. The conclusion of this study is meaningful for companies to establish of Simmelian ties, improve knowledge management capabilities and further promote enterprise innovation performance.

As the scope embodiment of public policy in specific fields, the government innovation policy is essentially a system arrangement and rule design and it plays an external guidance and incentive effect on the enterprises’ innovation activities. Whether the innovation policy will really promote the improvement of enterprises’ innovation performance and how it is realized have not reached the conclusion among theorists. As such the aim of this research is to test the relationships between innovation policy and enterprises’ innovation performance with the aim of contributing to help the government adjust policies and improve the innovation performance of enterprises. Based on the data of high-tech enterprises in Shandong Province in 2017, this paper studied the impact mechanism of innovation policy on enterprise innovation performance through regression analysis. The paper found that the innovation policy has a significant impact on enterprise innovation performance, and the ambidextrous learning plays a mediating role in this process.

We explored the mediating effect of job satisfaction in the relationship between employees' performance appraisal and their voice behavior. A questionnaire was administered to 864 employees at enterprises representing high-tech industrial clusters from 5 cities in China. Developmental performance appraisal was found to have a more positive influence on employees' voice behavior than evaluative performance appraisal did. Compared with prohibitive voice behavior, both developmental and evaluative types of performance appraisal had a more positive impact on promotive voice behavior, and job satisfaction was found to play a mediating role in the relationship between these variables.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the important role of intangible resources under resource based view (RBV) such as dominant logic (information filter and learning/routines) and dynamic managerial capabilities (managerial human capital, HC; social capital, SC and managerial cognition, MC) in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) innovation performance in Hefei, Anhui province China.Design/methodology/approachAn empirical study was conducted while distributing 498 questionnaires among different SMEs in Hefei, of which around 429 responses were received. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test the proposed hypotheses.FindingsThis research study is an endeavor to fill the missing link in the existing literature, and empirical analysis of this research supports all the hypotheses confirming that dominant logic and dynamic managerial capabilities are valuable intangible resources and positively and significantly influence the SMEs innovation performance. Results also indicate that managerial human capital, social capital and managerial cognition (dynamic managerial capabilities) play a significant mediating role between dominant logic and SMEs innovation performance.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings suggest that those SMEs which are lacking tangible resources should build and nurture their top management capabilities and dominant logic and SMEs effectively utilizing these intangible resources can enhance their innovation performance.Practical implicationsThe findings suggest that SMEs lacking tangible resources should build and nurture their top management capabilities and dominant logic and SMEs effectively utilizing these intangible resources can enhance their innovation performance.Originality/valueThis paper argues theoretically (under RBV and dynamic capabilities view-DCV) and demonstrates empirically that in an emerging economy, i.e. China characterized by highly volatile, dynamic and uncertain competitive environments, SMEs lack tangible resources; therefore, intangible resources (e.g. dominant logic-DL and dynamic managerial capabilities-DMC) are vital for SMEs innovation performance and competitive advantage.

Purpose Innovation networks provide an efficient mechanism for organizations to realize their potential for knowledge learning and innovation improvement. Firms situated within innovation networks require specific abilities to acquire the knowledge and the complementary assets that facilitate their innovation performance. Motivated by recent research studies in the area of social network and RBV, the purpose of this paper is to improve the understanding of the precise manner in which network capability affects a firm’s innovation performance. Design/methodology/approach Based on the data obtained from Chinese high-tech firms, the hypotheses are tested by using hierarchical multiple regressions. Findings This study identifies two types of network capabilities: network structural capability and network relational capability. The findings suggest that network structural capability has a greater positive impact on innovation performance than network relational capability does within an exploration-orientated network. However, network relational capability is more positively associated with innovation performance within an exploitation-orientated network. Practical implications A firm can enhance the value of its ego network by shaping and adjusting network configurations, rather than by passively reaping the benefits from existing relationships or ties with partners. Originality/value This paper contributes to strategic management theory and social network theory by illustrating how a networked firm can enable network value and appropriate this value according to its strategic purposes and by suggesting that a firm can improve its ego network’s value through exerting its network capabilities to shape and adjust network configurations. This paper also advances the contingent approach within social network research by offering a new complementary perspective and new evidence from a Chinese context.

At present, researches on business models generally focus on the deduction of theoretical models and case studies, and there are relatively few related quantitative studies. From the perspective of business model, this paper empirically studies the relationship between business model, entrepreneurial ability and innovation performance, taking newly established companies in Shanghai as the research object. The results show that Entrepreneurial Ability positively correlated with innovative business model and efficient business model. The innovative business model and efficiency business model is positively correlated with innovation performance. Business model is the intermediate mechanism of transforming entrepreneurial ability into innovative firm performance, and the design of business model is helpful to improve the survival rate and profitability of entrepreneurial firms.

Under the background of digital economy, technological diversification and R&D internationalization are important strategic choices for eMNCs, represented by China, to seek advanced technological resources and create competitive advantages. This paper takes China's listed MNCs from 2009 to 2019 as the research object and applies a non-equilibrium panel negative binomial fixed effect regression to investigate the impact mechanism of technological diversification of China's MNCs on enterprise innovation performance and the moderating effect of overseas R&D networks. Results show that the related technological diversification of MNCs has a significant positive impact, and the unrelated technological diversification and their innovation performance are in inverted U-shaped relationship; overseas R&D networks have significant moderating effect while the breadth and depth of the moderating effect are not the same; significant differences exist in the moderating effect of overseas R&D networks due to the heterogeneity of institutional development levels among regions in China.

Research on innovation performance has gradually moved from the industrial clusters level to network relations among enterprises inside clusters. This paper intends to explain the impacts of network strength, breadth and stability on the innovation performance of Startups. An empirical analysis of high-tech Startups from 6 provinces of central China displays that, network strength and breadth exert a significant positive impact on Startups‘ innovation performance, network stability a relatively weak one, and that environmental dynamism plays a negative role mediating between network breadth and the innovation performance.

This study examines the relationships among team identification, knowledge integration and project management performance. Using data from 22 high-tech companies with 115 employees in China, this study finds that team identification is positively related to knowledge integration but not related to project management performance. In addition, knowledge integration plays an intermediary role on team identification and project management performance, and has direct positive impact on project management performance.

The development of military-civilian dual-use high-tech and joint technological innovation is important for military-civilian integration enterprises to develop in-depth military-civilian integration. Taking 10 military-civilian listed enterprises in Jiangsu Province as the research objects, and using DEA-BBC model and DEA-Malmquist index method, this paper constructs an evaluation system for technological innovation performance of enterprises, evaluates and studies the innovation performance from 2016 to 2019. The research shows that the technological innovation performance of enterprises is generally low. The main reasons of this situation are backward technology, low resource utilization, and the uneven management capabilities of enterprises. In addition, this paper provides some suggestions for improving the technological innovation performance of military-civilian enterprises.
