The ionic liquid A327H+Cl- is generated by reaction of the tertiary amine A327 (industrial mixture of tri-octil and tri-decyl amines) and hydrochloric acid solutions. Further, the extraction of Au(III) by A327H+Cl- ionic liquid under various variables, including metal and ionic liquid concentrations, has been investigated. Results indicate that A327H+AuCl4- is formed, by an exothermic (ΔHº= -3 kJ/mol) reaction, in the organic solution. Aqueous ionic strength influences the formation constants values and the specific interaction theory (SIT) is used to estimate the interaction coefficient between AuCl4- and H+. Gold (III) is stripped using thiocyanate media, and from the strip solutions, gold is precipitated as gold nanoparticles.

The liquid–liquid extraction of Au(III) from HCl solutions by a series of solvation extractants had been studied. The reagents are neutral organophosphorous derivatives such as phosphine oxides (Cyanex 921 and Cyanex 923) and phospholene derivatives (DMPL, EHMPL and NMPL). The distribution of gold between the aqueous and organic phases has been investigated under different variables. Experimental data were treated numerically in order to define the corresponding extracted species. Both experimental and numerical data were used to estimate the interaction coefficient between AuCl4- and H+ by using the specific interaction theory (SIT). Moreover, experimental data on the liquid–liquid extraction of HCl by these phosphorous derivatives were given.

This paper presents study on the facilitated transport of cadmium(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) ions from aqueous chloride solutions through polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) with phosphonium ionic liquid. Cyphos IL 101 (trihexyl(tetradecyl) phosphonium chloride) was used as a selective carrier for synthesis of cellulose triacetate membranes containing o-nitrophenyl pentyl ether (ONPPE) as a plasticizer. Effect of different parameters such as hydrochloric acid concentration in the source phase as well as ion carrier concentration in the polymer membrane on metal ions transport has been investigated. Cd(II) was transported preferably from hydrochloric acid solutions containing Co(II) and Ni(II) through PIM containing 18.8 wt.% CTA and 26.0 wt.% Cyphos 101 and 55.1 wt.% ONPPE into 0.5 M HNO3 as the receiving phase. The obtained results suggest that there is a possibility of application of this membrane with Cyphos IL 101 as ion carrier for separation of Cd(II) over Co(II) and Ni(II) from hydrochloric acid solutions.
