Rapid growth in private vehicle ownership and usage is one of the key problems in the development of a sustainable transportation system for Yangon City. Car ownership depends on the land use patterns and socioeconomic characteristics of a city. Socioeconomic factors, including age, gender, income, house type, and family size also affect the choice of transportation mode and destination in the short and long terms, while the choice of housing location is affected in the long term. In this study, aggregate level land use data and disaggregate level individual and household data are used to determine the effects of land use and socioeconomic factors on household decisions to own zero, one, and two or more cars. This research models car ownership by the estimating multinomial logit model using SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences). The result suggests that income level, house type of a household, and the housing location have influence on car ownership in Yangon City. The car ownership level will be higher if the household number in the central business district (CBD), inner ring area, and outer ring area is increased. Increase in low income and normal income households will reduce the probability of car ownership in the suburban area.

<p>Minimum parking requirements (MPRs) mandate that each new development provides enough parking to ensure ample provision at the time of peak demand. This approach tends to oversupply parking above the optimal level, and by bundling parking into the development costs, ensures that parking is free to the user. As a result, land-use and transport decisions are distorted. A case study of Porirua central business district (CBD) was undertaken to investigate the use of MPRs in the New Zealand context, and to assess their impacts on transport and land-use patterns. Findings indicate that MPRs tend to oversupply parking relative to weekly mean and peak occupancies. Land use mapping found that 24 percent of CBD land is allocated to car parking and MPRs were shown to contribute to dispersed development patterns. Stated choice data and a cost recovery model for car parking highlight how free and ample car parking provision favours car driving and has distortionary impacts on travel decisions.</p>

Walkable cities emphasize cities with high walkability values, where walkability can be defined as the degree to which the environment can be pedestrian friendly. Walkable city is considered to be able to increase people's desire to walk so that it can make the environment more humanistic and can also help realize one of the objectives of sustainable transportation. The value of walkability can be viewed from the perspective of the urban form (macro level) of an area. The Central Business District (CBD)  Pekanbaru City walkability index assessment uses the WAI IPEN Project model that measures the form of the Urban Form. The walkability assessment process in the Pekanbaru Kota Sub-District Area (CBD) divides the study area into 6 grids. The analysis shows that there are 4 grids that have a negative walkability value. In the analysis of the walkability value pattern it can be seen that the area dominated by office activities has a lower walkability value compared to the area that has mixed land use.

Analyzing the interaction between land use patterns (LUPs) and socioeconomic factors (SEFs) could provide a basis for regional land spatial planning and management decisions in the future. In this study, population, gross domestic product (GDP) and land use intensity were selected to explain the relationship between SEFs and LUPs. The study designed a new method of sample line acquisition for wavelet analysis, and identified the interaction grid scales of LUP changes with SEFs in 1991, 2005 and 2019 by using cross wavelet transform analysis (XWT). Wavelet transform coherent analysis (WTC) was used to reveal the interaction direction and impact strength between LUPs and SEFs. The results showed that: (1) There were two ranges of 2978–5008 m and 24,400–29,738 m in which the grid scales showing interaction between LUPs and SEFs (population, GDP and land use intensity) from 1991 to 2019 were overlapping. (2) The interaction direction between LUPs and SEFs from 1991 to 2019 was almost negative on all sample lines, while the interaction directions of the middle sample line of population and GDP from 1991 to 2019, the end sample line of GDP in 2019, and the start sample line of land use intensity in 1991 were positive. (3) Dry land, grassland and construction land were most affected by SEFs, followed by paddy fields, forest land and other land, and the least affected were water areas during 1991 to 2019. The impact of population and GDP on LUPs was reduced, while the impact of land use intensity on LUPs was increased from 1991 to 2019. Overall, population, GDP and land use intensity were the important SEFs in the changes of LUPs, and were important factors for social progress and economic development.

Abstract The achievement of sustainable transportation and the desire to reduce car ownership are important aspects of urban planning, especially in developing countries. This paper presents an overview of researches and studies conducted on car ownership to find the knowledge gap and neglected modelling methods that should be employed in the further researches in Iran as one of the Middle East countries. It is found that car ownership models have under gone modification and improvement from regression models towards discrete choice models, although more improvement is necessary and underway. Lack of reliable aggregate and disaggregate data regarding public transport, land use, behavioural and socioeconomic variables particularly for small cities is prominent. To fill the gap, more descriptive and analytical researches and more complex modelling methods and variables need be delved.

Land use planning plays a crucial role in creating a balance between the needs of society, physical development and the ecosystem. However, most often poor planning and displacement of land uses particularly in urban areas contribute to social ills such as drug abuse and criminal activities. This research explains the spatial relationship of drug abuse and other criminal activities on urban land use planning and their implications on the society at large. Spatial statistics was used to show patterns, trends and spatial relationships of crimes and land use planning. Data on crime incidents were obtained from the Royal Malaysia Police Department whilst cases of drug abuse were collected from the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK). Analysis of the data together with digital land use maps produced by Arnpang Jaya Municipal Council, showed the distribution of crime incidents and drug abuse in the area. Findings of the study also indicated that, there was a strong relationship between petty crimes, drng abuse and land use patterns. These criminal activities tend to concentrate in residential and commercial areas of the study area.

Selecting an effective archaeological survey takes careful consideration given the interaction of several variables, such as the survey's goals, nature of the data base, and budget constraints. This article provides justification for a “siteless survey” using evidence from a project on Potowomut Neck in Rhode Island whose objective was not to locate sites but to examine the distribution and density of prehistoric remains to test an hypothesis related to land use patterns. The survey strategy, random walk, was chosen because it possessed the advantages of probabilistic testing, as well as the ease of locating sample units. The results were within the limits of statistical validity and were found unable to reject the hypothesis. “Siteless survey” may be successfully applied in similar contexts where the distribution and density of materials, as opposed to ambiguously defined sites, are sought as evidence of land use patterns, in particular, and human adaptation, in general.

Perkembangan penggunaan tanah bergerak horisontal secara spasial ke arah wilayah yang mudah diusahakan. Penggunaan tanah juga bergerak secara vertikal dalam rangka menaikkan mutunya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola penggunaan lahan, bagaimana manajemen penggunaan lahan di satu wilayah berdasarkan batas Nagari. Metode yang digunakan adalah analsisis spasial dengan interpretasi citra penginderaan jauh, survey lapangan, dan analisis deskriptif. Pertumbuhan pemukiman Nagari Sungai Sariak Kecamatan VII Koto Kabupaten Padang Pariaman mengakibatkan pemanfaatan ruang menjadi tumpang tindih. Diperlukan cara-cara pengelolaan dan managemen penggunaan tanah dalam rangka pembangunan berkelanjutan yang menaikkan taraf hidup masyarakat dan tidak menimbulkan kerugian lingkungan.Terdapat 9 jenis penggunaan lahan yang ada di Nagari Sungai Sariak. Penggunaan lahan tersebut adalah Primary Forest, Secondary Forest, Paddy Field, Settlement, Mixed Plantations, Crop Fields, Water Bodies, Bushes, dan Plantations. Penggunaan lahan yang paling luas di Nagari Sungai Sariak adalah jenis penggunaan lahan Primary Forest, sebesar 48% dari total luas wilayah Nagari Sungai Sariak. Pada tahun 2011 sampai tahun 2016, penggunaan lahan paling luas terjadi pada penggunaan lahan jenis Primary Forest yang kemudian menjadi Mixed Plantations. Land use Changes moved horizontally spatially towards areas that are easily cultivated. The land use also moves vertically in order to increase its quality. This study aims to analyze land use patterns, how land use management in one area is based on Nagari boundaries. The method used is spatial analysis with interpretation of remote sensing images, field surveys, and descriptive analysis. The growth of Nagari Sungai Sariak in Kecamatan VII Koto, Kabupaten Padang Pariaman resulted in overlapping use of space. Management methods are needed and management of land use in the framework of sustainable development that raises the standard of living of the community and does not cause environmental losses. There are 9 types of land use in the Nagari Sungai Sariak. The land uses are Primary Forest, Secondary Forest, Paddy Field, Settlement, Mixed Plantations, Crop Fields, Water Bodies, Bushes, and Plantations. The most extensive land use in Nagari Sungai Sariak is the type of Primary Forest land use, amounting to 48% of the total area of the Nagari Sungai Sariak. From 2011 to 2016, the most extensive land use occurred in Primary Forest land uses which later became Mixed Plantations.
