The nature of the complexes formed in ethanolic solution has been studied following the molar ratio method also was studied stability constant and found to be stable in molar ratio1:1 of VL (IV) and CoL(II) while Pt(IV), Au(III) and Rh(III) complexes stable in molar ratio 1:2 as well as the molar absorptivity for these complexes were calculated. From the previous analyses, octahedral geometry was suggested for Pt (IV), Rh (III) and Co (II) complexes, square planar was suggested for Au(III) complex while V(IV) complex has a square pyramidal. Cytotoxic effect of PtL, AuL and RhL as well as ligand has been evaluated against RD cell line by using four different concentrations (500, 250, 125 & 62.5 µg/ml) respectively in three exposure times 24, 48 and 72 hrs and compared this effect with control positive Cis-Pt.

In this work lactone (1) was prepared from the reaction of p-nitro phenyl hydrazine with ethylacetoacetate, which upon treatment with benzoyl chloride afforded the lactame (2). The reaction of (2) with 2-amino phenol produced a new Schiff base (L) in good yield. Complexes of V(IV), Zr(IV), Rh(III), Pd(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) with the new Schiff base (L) have been prepared. The compounds (1, 2) were characterized by FT-IR and UV spectroscopy, as well as characterizing ligand (L) by the same techniques with elemental analysis (C.H.N) and (1H-NMR). The prepared complexes were identified and their structural geometries were suggested by using elemental analysis (C.H.N), flame atomic absorption technique, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, in addition to magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. Metal to ligand [M:L] ratio was obtained for all complexes in ethanol using molar ratio method, which gave comparable results with those obtained for the solid complexes. As well as the apparent stability constant of the complexes have been studied with the time and their color were stable for more than 4 hrs., furthermore the molar absorptivity have been calculated.

A new Schiff base of 4- flourophenyl-4- nitrobenzyliden (L) ,was prepared and used to prepare a number of metal complexes with Cr (III) , Fe (III), Co(II) ,Ni (II) and Cu (II). These complexes were isolated and characterized by (FITR),UV-Vis spectroscopy and flame atomic absorption techniques in addition to magnetic susceptibility, and conductivity measurements. The study of the nature of the complexes formed in ethanol was done following the molar ratio method gave results, agreed with those obtained from isolated solid state studies. The antibacterial activity for the ligand and its metal complexes were examined against two selected microorganisms, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The results indicated that the complexes show the enhanced activity in comparison to the free ligand; these were attributed to the synergetic effect between the metal ion and the ligand in addition to the difference in the structural varieties.

A simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of Se (IV) using 5,6-diaminouracil hydrochloride (DAUH) as an analytical reagent. The reagent has been synthesized and characterized using IR, 1H NMR. The metal ion in aqueous medium forms yellow colored complex with DAUH showing maximum absorbance at 343 nm. Hence, analytical studies were further carried out at 343 nm. The reagent reacts with selenium in acidic medium to form yellow colored 1:1 (M:L) complex . The color reactions are instantaneous and absorbance values remain constant for one week. The composition of the Se (IV) complex with DAUH was studied by the method of job’s continuous variation and molar ratio method. Beer’s law was obeyed in the range 0.2-15.0 μg mL−1of Se (IV). The molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity of the method were found to be 0.5×10+4 L.mol-1.cm-1and 0.031μg.cm-2 respectively. Since DAUH method is more sensitive, it was applied for the determination of selenium in samples.

The sensitive, accurate and rapid spectrophotometric method that can be used for determination of Cu(II) in the analytical samples using a new chromogenic reagent azo-Schiff base 1-((4-(1-(2-hydroxyphenylimino)ethyl)-phenyl)diazenyl) naphthalene-2-ol (HPEDN). The synthesized new (azo-Schiff base) ligand was complexed with copper(II) and characterized using UV/Vis spectroscopy, IR spectra, 1H-NMR, 13CN-MR spectra, Molar electrical connectivity, and measuring of their melting points. Then obtained complex showed a brown color with maximum absorption at λmax = 500 nm at pH = 9. Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration in the range of 1.7 to 5.4 μg/mL. The molar absorption and Sandell’s sensitivity values of Cu(II) complex were found to be 0.5038 × 104 L mol–1 cm–1 and 0.0039 μg cm–2, respectively. Structure of the prepared complex was investigated by using the continuous variation, mole ratio method and slope analysis method. The obtained results showed that the complex has (1:2) (M:L) molar ratio and these results showed that this method were more sensitive, more precise and accuracy through the calculation of (Re, Erel, R.S.D)%. The most important interferences were due to, Co2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Pd2+, Fe3+ and these were studied, and suitable masking agents were used. This method was applied for the determination of Cu(II) in alloy. The obtained results were compared with flame atomic absorption spectrometry method and these results were in a good agreement in these two cases.

The reaction of methyldopa with o-vanillin in refluxing ethanol afforded Schiff base and characterized through physical analysis with a number of spectra also the study of biological activity. The geometry of the Schiff base was identified through using (C.H.N) analysis, Mass, 1H-NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy. Metal complexes of Cr3+, Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Hg2+ with Schiff base have been prepared in the molar ratio 2:1 (Metal:L), (L = Schiff base ligand) except Hg2+ at molar ratio 1:1 (Hg:L). The prepared complexes were characterized by using Mass, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectral studies, on other than magnetic properties and flame atomic absorption, conductivity measurements. According to the results a dinuclear octahedral geometry has been suggested for Cr3+, Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ complexes, dinuclear tetrahedral for Cd2+ and mononuclear tetrahedral for Hg2+ complex. This work highlights the relevance of metal complexation strategy to stabilize the ligands and improve their bioactivity. Schiff base complexes have been screen for their antibacterial activity against Gram negative and positive bacteria and antifungal activity showing promising antibacterial and biological activity.

The reagent reacts with nickel(II) in aqueous solution at pH= 7 to form dark- brown colored complex. The reagent and its complex were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Uv-visible,1HNMR, and 13CNMR spectroscopies and investigate the formula and charge of the prepared complex by molar ratio and molar conductivity measurements. The complex shows λmax at 486 nm with a molar absorptivity 0.3299 x 104 L.mo1-1.cm-1 and Sandell’s sensitivity 0.0177μg.cm-2.Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range (0.5-7.6μg.mL-1) of Ni (II) with excellent linearity depicted by correlation coefficient value of 0.9995 with a detection limit of 0.1927μg.ml-1. Recovery and relative error values of precision and accuracy of method were found to be R.S.D.% = 0.39221, Re=98.7% and Erel = -1.3% . The nature of the complex showed that (M:L) ratio was 1:2.
