Laboratories are an important and integral part of the engineering curriculum and should be well integrated into a coherent learning path. In a distance learning context, the development and integration of remote laboratories represents an important technical challenge. Consequently, it is sometimes observed that the pedagogical and socio-affective aspects are neglected in the development of such laboratories. In this project, the objective has been to develop a flexible and reusable model (a full pedagogical package) designed to support the development of remote laboratory modules as well as providing an "ideal" distance learning environment that effectively supports teamwork between geographically dispersed students. The proposed model is partly inspired from the problem-based learning pedagogy with emphasis on collaboration, mutual training and peer support. Particular efforts were made to minimize the need for supervision. It is designed to make full use of the tools and flexibility provided by an existing learning management system (LMS) such as Moodle. The collaborative approach on which relies the completion of pre- and post-lab team documents is first discussed followed by a presentation of the other elements that are included in the model. The full concept is then summarized graphically, linking each module contents to their cognitive and socio-affective objectives. In addition to its usefulness as a guide to help developers design their remote laboratory interfaces, the model provides a convenient way to evaluate different aspects of a project (including teamwork and problem resolution processes) in addition to the actual learning objectives.

This article describes the design and implementation of a remote laboratory for learning sensors based experiments and its applications using embedded systems and Internet of Things (IoT) platform. The main objective of this remote laboratory is to enhance the learning on sensors in engineering education and dealing with the industrial automation applications. With the growing IoT platform for automation, the proposed system can monitor the sensor data and allows the learner to work from anywhere and anytime using mobile android application. Thus, learners can develop knowledge on sensors and control algorithms required for the automation industries and then deploy them on the real industrial automation modules.

Industrial worlds nowadays is encountering a change by entering industrial revolution 4.0 era. This era is also disrupting a lot of human’s activities, including science, technology and higher education. In facing industrial revolution 4.0 in education, Indonesian government has tried Cyber University program and the development of 4.0 learning, like distance learning system that is facilitated by SPADA (Indonesian online learning system). SPADA is a program of the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs of the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education to improve equitable access towards quality learning in higher education. Aggregator of the SPADA Indonesia is used to connect learning management system of higher education and the LMS of SPADA Indonesia. The problem in SPADA and LSM system is generally in a state of having shortcomings in the learning of engineering field, where to achieve learning outcomes, it needs facilities to do laboratory work activity. Using this background, the researchers in this research is integrating between LMS and remote laboratory system. It is expected that the solution of distance learning that integrated with remote laboratory can fulfill all resources needed to achieve learning outcomes education of the engineering field like in conventional learning.
