Abstract This work demonstrates the spectral and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) properties of a new chalcone laser dye material of 1-(4-methylsulfonyl phenyl)-3-(4-N, N dimethyl amino phenyl)-2-propen-1-one (MSPPP). The absorption, fluorescence, Stokes’ shift and quantum yield were obtained using different organic solvents. The energy band gap was calculated and compared with that of 3-[4-(dimethylamino) phenyl]-1-phenyl-(2E)-propen- 1-one (DAPPP). These include absorption, fluorescence, stokes shift, and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). The absorption spectra of MSPPP showed a wavelength band in the range 403–427 nm, whereas the fluorescence spectra exhibited a band at 472–533 nm. ASE was observed under pump pulse laser excitation, and the wavelengths were attuned from 511 to 548 nm.

In this work, 1-(4-methylsulfonyl phenyl)-3-(4-N, N dimethyl amino phenyl)-2-propen-1-one (MSPPP) chalcone was synthesized and examined as optical materials. The absorption and fluorescence characteristics of MSPPP chalcone were recorded in ten different solvents. The influence of functional groups (FG) and solvents on their photophysical properties were investigated. These include absorption, fluorescence, stokes shift, and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). The absorption spectra of MSPPP showed a wavelength band in the range 404 - 427 nm, whereas the fluorescence spectra exhibited a band at 473 - 533 nm. The FGs and solvents had an adorable effect on the optical properties of the synthesized materials. ASE was observed under pump pulse laser excitation, and the wavelengths were attuned from 511 to 548 nm.

Weakly bound excited state complexes involving 7-diethylamino-4-methylcoumarin have been studied by ASE gain spectroscopy to explore the applicability of the method for studying excited state complexation. Comparative steady state spectrofluorometric and ASE gain measurements showed that ASE gain measurements are capable of giving information on excited state complexation of the laser dye but with greater ease and frequency resolution. Key words: excited state complex, amplified spontaneous emission, laser gain, ASE gain spectroscopy

This paper included two objectives: (i) Synthesis of Polymer {poly 2- [1- phenyl -3-(4-methyl phenyl)-4, 5-dihydropyrazole-5-yl-(4-phenoxy carbonyl)] styrene} PMDPCS and structure characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR spectra and Uv/Vis and XRD. (ii) Synthesis of chalcone {3-(4-(dimethylamino) phenyl)-2-phenyl-(2E) propen-1-one} (DAPPP) for absorption and fluorescence spectra under different solvents and concentrations.  Also, under various concentrations, organic solvents and pump pulse energies of Nd: YAG laser, the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) was studied. Additionally, under the same identical conditions, the amplified spontaneous emission spectra of DAPPP in solution were compared with a conventional laser dye of coumarin 503. Finally, the gain and the fluorescence quantum yield of DAPPP were determined.
