A study of nearly 10,000 specimens of Staphylinidae collected in the Ionian island Corfu, Greece, in late spring 2017 yielded more than 233 species. Additional, previously unpublished records of 66 named species are reported from the island. Two species are described and illustrated: Borboropora corcyrana Assing spec. nov. of the Aleocharinae and Ocypus corcyranus Assing spec. nov. of the Staphylininae. As many as 118 named species are reported from Corfu for the first time, 21 of these species represent first records from Greece. One name is revalidated and six names are synonymized: Euplectus jonicus Meggiolaro, 1966 (revalidated) = E. jonicus corcyreus Meggiolaro, 1966, syn. nov.; Mycetoporus punctipennis Scriba, 1868 = M. insulanus Luze, 1901, syn. nov.; Anotylus tetracarinatus (Block, 1799) = A. corcyranus (Coiffait, 1968), syn. nov.; Bledius corniger Rosenhauer, 1856 = B. bubalus Gistel, 1857, syn. nov.; Paederus littoralis Gravenhorst, 1802 = P. pelikani Reitter, 1884, syn. nov.; Leptacinus batychrus (Gyllenhal, 1827) = Phacophallus corcyranus Bordoni, 2017, syn. nov. Including reliable previous literature records and the new records reported in the present paper, 446 named species (plus additional unnamed species) are currently known from Corfu. Thus, the known fauna of this island is significantly more diverse than those of other East Mediterranean islands, including the much larger Cyprus. A checklist of the Staphylinidae fauna of Corfu is provided. Although at present 18 species and subspecies have been recorded exclusively from Corfu, most of them are unlikely to represent island endemics; three of these species are of doubtful taxonomic status. Abstract The floristic investigation of the Ionian island of Kalamos resulted in the addition of 275 specific and infraspecific taxa, which are reported here, to a present total of 502 taxa. For each newly recorded taxon local distribution and habitat types are presented. Convolvulus pentapetaloides and Malcolmia graeca subsp. hydraea are reported for the first time from the Ionian islands. Some of the new records concern rare taxa in Greece or regional endemics, which are, therefore, chorologically significant, such as Alkanna corcyrensis, Stachys ionica, Heptaptera colladonioides. A brief description of some of the vegetation types of the island is given. The results of floristic analysis and phytogeographical aspects demonstrate the pronounced Mediterranean character of the island’s flora.

Critical examination of the pteridophytes of District Mansehra based on our own field surveys and previous literature as well revealed the occurrence of total 130 taxa distributed in 34 genera and 17 families. Of these, 23taxa are new records for the study area, while Polystichum obliquum (D. Don) T. Moore  is reported for the first time for Pakistan. Nomenclatural reassessment of previously reported taxa suggests that 23 taxa are now synonyms. Habitat-wise, 68 taxa are terrestrial, while 54 are epilithic, 5exist as epiphytes and the remaining 3 are aquatic.

For the first time, molecular sequences of the 18S ribosomal DNA were generated for representatives of the genera Obrimoposthia Sluys & Ball, 1989 and Paucumara Sluys, 1989 of the suborder of the marine triclads, or Maricola, by analyzing the species Obrimoposthiawandeli (Hallez, 1906) and Paucumaratrigonocephala (Ijima & Kaburaki, 1916). On the basis of this molecular data the phylogenetic position of these two genera in the phylogenetic tree of the Maricola was determined and compared with their position in the phylogeny based on the analysis of anatomical features. New records for these two species are documented and their taxonomic status is determined on the basis of histological studies.

Abstract Based on previous literature and our own collections, we list 285 bryophyte species (142 liverworts, 143 mosses) from the Taita Hills region (including Mt. Kasigau and Maktau Hill) in SE Kenya. New records for Kenya include the liverworts Archilejeunea elobulata Steph., Bazzania nitida (F. Weber) Grolle, Cololejeunea grossepapillosa (Horik.) N. Kitag., Diplasiolejeunea kraussiana (Lindenb.) Steph., D. villaumei Steph., Lejeunea amaniensis E.W. Jones, L. cyathearum E.W. Jones, Lopholejeunea laciniata E.W. Jones, Metzgeria crassipilis (Lindb.) A. Evans, M. nudifrons Steph., Plagiochila boryana (F. Weber) Nees, and P. moenkemeyeri Steph., and the mosses Leucophanes hildebrandtii Müll. Hal. and Neckeromnion lepineanum (Mont.) S. Olsson, Enroth, Huttunen & D. Quandt. A further 22 liverworts and 13 mosses previously known from other parts of Kenya are reported for the first time from the Taita Hills region.

The speciesHomostichanthus duerdeniandAnemonia sargassensisare recorded for the first time in the Mexican Caribbean.Homostichanthus duerdeniis taxonomically diagnosed, and images from living specimens, including external and internal features and cnidae, are provided. The extension of the geographical distribution range ofA. sargassensisis discussed, as well as the taxonomic status of the previous records of actiniarians in the Mexican Caribbean. An updated list of sea anemones in the region is provided, comprising 15 species in 11 localities along the Mexican Caribbean.

Sardinia is the second largest islandin the Mediterranean region, receiving significant attention due to its interesting fauna and flora. The last checklist of Sardinian ants was published more than a decade ago, and,since then,it got outdated by numerous taxonomic and faunistic novelties. As a result of recentcollecting efforts across theisland,we presentthe first Sardinian records of Messor ibericus Santschi, 1931, Solenopsis lusitanica Emery, 1915(new to Italy), Temnothorax aveli Bondroit, 1918 and Tetramorium atratulum (Schenck, 1852), while proposing to consider Solenopsis fugax (Latreille, 1798)and Temnothorax affinis (Mayr, 1855) as absent. We report for the first time a parasite-host association between Tetramorium atratulum and Tetramoriumsemilaeve André, 1883, and the conspicuous presence of ergatogynes within a Solenopsiscolony (S. lusitanica).Morphological insights on the little-known S. lusitanica and S. orbula Emery, 1875 are also discussed.We combined the new findings and previous literature data intoan updatedchecklist of 77 taxaand discuss afirst biogeographic analysis of the Sardinian antsaided bychorotypes.Eurasian, European, Euro-Mediterraneanand West-Mediterranean taxa are the numerically prevalent groups, while the overall number of speciesis significantly lower than in the other large Mediterranean islands. Considerableknowledge gapsstill remainand some species are known to require additionaltaxonomic investigation

During a recent survey, 29 earthworm species were collected from different parts of Turkey, 27 of which belong to the family Lumbricidae, one to Acanthodrilidae and one to Megascolecidae. Dendrobaena proved to be the most speciose genus with 12 recorded species including two species new to science, Dendrobaena pavliceki and Dendrobaena taurica spp. nov. In addition a third new species was also found belonging to the East Mediterranean genus Healyella: Healyella zicsii sp. nov. From the species recorded earlier for Turkey, D. fridericae uludagi Omodeo & Rota, 1991 and He. boluana Omodeo & Rota, 1989 were found for the first time since the original description. With these new records the number of earthworm species recorded for Turkey is raised to 84.

Five species of shrimps, four carideans and one stenopodidean, are recorded for the first time from the Caribbean coast of Panama: Lysmata vittata (Stimpson, 1860) [Lysmatidae Dana, 1852], Periclimenaeus ascidiarum Holthuis, 1951, P. bredini Chace, 1972, P. maxillulidens (Schmitt, 1936) [Palaemonidae Rafinesque, 1815], and Odontozona edyli Criales & Lemaitre, 2017 [Stenopodidae Claus, 1872]. Rather surprisingly, L. vittata is recorded from the Caribbean Sea for the first time. However, the taxonomic status of all western Atlantic specimens currently assigned to L. vittata (including the Panamanian material and the Brazilian L. rauli Laubenheimer & Rhyne, 2010) will need a much more careful reassessment, which will only be possible after determining the taxonomic identity of L. vittata in the Indo-West Pacific. The colour patterns of P. ascidiarum, P. bredini and O. edyli, herein illustrated for the first time, appear to be species-diagnostic and may serve as additional important taxonomic characters. For O. edyli, the previously unknown thoracic sternum of the female is illustrated, as well as the variation in the rostral dentition.

New additions to the knowledge of the subfamily Eumeninae in Russia are provided. Stenodynerus rossicus Fateryga & Kochetkov, sp. nov. is described from Amurskaya Province and Altai Republic. Three species of eumenine wasps are reported from Russia for the first time: Onychopterocheilus kiritshenkoi (Kostylev, 1940), Pterocheilus quaesitus (Morawitz, 1895), and Stenodynerus chitgarensis Giordani Soika, 1970. Ancistrocerus dusmetiolus (Strand, 1914) is excluded from the fauna of Russia; the previous records of this species were based on a misidentification of another similar species, i. e., A. raddei (Kostylev, 1940). The taxonomic status of A. raddei, however, is unclear: its differences from A. dusmetiolus, including the material from Central Asia described as A. alius (Kostylev, 1935), are mainly in the color pattern but not in the structure (including the structure of the male genitalia). New and confirmative regional records for 20 species are reported. The known fauna of Russia currently numbers 34 genera and 165 species of Eumeninae s. l. (including Raphiglossinae and Zethinae). In addition, Eumenes tripunctatus (Christ, 1791) is reported for the first time from Afghanistan; the first data on the nesting of this species are also reported.
