Design/methodology/approach This paper is a literature review examining films relating to the 1989 and 1991 revolutions in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The findings are presented in the form of an annotated bibliography. Findings A total of 24 films from eight countries are presented in this annotated bibliography. This paper summarizes published research studies, technical reports and codes and standards related to the visibility (i.e., conspicuity and legibility) of signage. In the summary that follows, publications are grouped and discussed according to several different topics. First, the typographic and symbolic characteristics of signs and the information they carry are described (e.g., letter size, font selection, etc.); second, photometric, colorimetric and temporal properties of signs as they affect visibility; finally, environmental considerations (e.g., daytime versus nighttime viewing, whether a sign is located in a rural or urban area, etc.) as they influence sign design are reviewed. Annotated summaries of each publication in the literature review are included at the end of this paper.

This article aims to map—for the first time—the emerging but not yet substantively defined field of economics of religion. To do so, we conducted a quantitative literature review, using thePartly Annotated Bibliography of Economics of Religion’s (Koch 2011) 763 publications as the sample. Although loaded with limitations like the German language backlog, the sample allows for an explorative map as it also includes publications from a variety of disciplines. The sample was coded along formal variables like discipline, date of publication, or language to quantify the body of literature, thereby enabling us to establish parameters to formally map the field. Our findings shed light on the most important disciplines (RQ1), most used publication formats (2), language frequencies (3), and most published experts (4); in addition, by synthesizing the results, we present trends and patterns according to disciplines over time (5) and interpret peak publication frequencies around 9/11. The limitation of the sample on language and comprehensiveness as well as the simplification of a solely quantitative approach is discussed, and further research including quantitative citation-based studies and qualitative measures is proposed.

Purpose – Keeping up with the abundance of new materials on climate change can be a challenge for selectors of library materials. There is a need for an updated list of recommended titles in the library literature. Design/methodology/approach – An exhaustive literature review was performed on climate change books published within the past four years. Findings – The following is an annotated bibliography of 22 recommended titles focused on climate change that were published within that timeframe. Originality/value – This will be helpful to librarians seeking to develop or update climate change collections.
