PurposeUbiquitous digital technologies are driving organisations to embrace non-traditional digitally transformed business models incessantly. Heterogeneous literature contributions have resulted in a spur in the research related to business transformation driven by digital technologies in recent years; consequently, the research under the digital transformation (DT), even though becoming a hotspot, remains very fragmented. The authors endeavour to holistically present the literature's intellectual structure under DT as a concept, its evolving journey and the emerging research streams in the business and management domains using the techniques of bibliometric analysis.Design/methodology/approachBy performing bibliometric analysis on 234 research articles published over the last 20 years in the DT domain, retrieved from Thompson Reuters Web of Science TM, this study culls out thorough insights from the citation, co-citation and keyword analysis. Further emerging research streams were evaluated using VOSviewer software.FindingsThe study depicts an overall incremental trend of year-on-year publications, authors' performance, publication journals, associated institutions and research driving countries, along with key insights from co-citation network analysis. Furthermore, the study evaluates four research areas – organisational impacts, applied applications and insights, operational processes and social aspects, comprising eighteen research streams that comprehensively cover-up research under the DT domain.Research limitations/implicationsThe study contributes to the literature of DT by amalgamating the status of the present research, but more importantly, by deriving the research areas and research streams, which can be further expanded by researchers as future research streams.Practical implicationsFor the practitioners, the study aims to act as a ready reckoner repository with practice-oriented literature references to facilitate them building knowledge and taking effective strategic decisions to harness the benefits of DT more proficiently.Originality/valueThis study illustrates the bibliometric structure of the DT literature and presents insights from the growth of the literature year-on-year.

This chapter uses direct citation network analysis and bibliometric analysis approach to explore the overall research development of China's technological innovation. Results show that environmental science ecology, engineering, science technology, and energy fuels are the top research topics related to China. A direct citation network of technological innovation in China is also illustrated to show the major themes of the technological innovation among key researchers in China. In addition, the authors adopt the relatedness measure as the basis of cluster analysis, which classifies five main research development groups related to the technological innovation in China. They then review the core papers under each group to illustrate the detailed development of each group. Researchers and practitioners can refer the results to identify the key papers in each development group and understand the influential research that may lead to the important technological innovations in China.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the knowledge infrastructure of destination food research based on a systematic literature review. This bibliometric analysis involves authors, institutions, countries and co-citation networks and discloses trending developments in the field.Design/methodology/approachThis study is based on 176 articles published in hospitality and tourism journals during the period 2000–2018 and bibliometric data downloaded from the ISI Web of Science. This review applies bibliometric analysis, citation network analysis and content analysis to examine the structure and networks of destination food knowledge so as to provide destination food researchers with a reference guide to the context, methods and focus of previous studies.FindingsThe findings demonstrate the development and trends of destination food research. This is the first study to address the limitations of prior systematic literature reviews by applying network analysis to reveal the interrelated structures and properties of the destination food research domain.Practical implicationsPractitioners can also discover trends in the design of development strategies, as well as identify extended themes that may be integrated with research in the field of destination food at present.Originality/valueAs a summary of key characteristics, this report is a useful reference guide to previous studies for researchers. This study presents core content about the destination food field and identifies development trends within destination food research. Based on the results, further research directions are provided.

Ecosystem Services is an important concept to achieve Sustainable Development Goals 2030. For the past 20 years, this concept has grown exponentially and the metadata of these publications can be considered as big data. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to Ecosystem Services publications from Web of Science database, which are text-mining analysis, bibliographic coupling, and citation network analysis. Text-mining analysis results were a cluster map of keywords representing the content of abstract and title from 4203 publications in the dataset. Bibliographic coupling analysis results were a cluster of documents which analyzed using natural language processing to extract the main idea of the documents. Using these two analysis insight about ecosystem services are obtained. Ecosystem services in general can be divided into 6 big clusters: economic assessment of ecosystem services as natural capital, ecosystem services assessment in term of accounting and management, biodiversity conservation in term of species richness, biodiversity conservation in term of human well-being, climate change and ecosystem services, and ecosystem services in urban area. Finally, citation network analysis was performed. 5700 publications consist of publications from the dataset and cited references from the publications were analyzed and 50 most influential articles from 1977 to 2018 with highest citation score was plotted in chronological order, providing insight on how the topic has been developing over time and important publications to be read. Bibliometric analysis proved to be very useful, especially as the preliminary step before conducting literature review. This technique can be very beneficial for early career scientists who wanted to recognize a field of science or wanted to know the research gaps that could be worked on.

Background: Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is an emerging therapy against Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Although the therapy has gained prominence, there has been no bibliometric analysis of FMT. Methods: Studies published from 2004 to 2017 were extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded. Bibliometric analysis were used to evaluate the number or cooperation of publications, countries, citations, references, journals, authors, institutions and keywords. Results: A total of 796 items were included, showing an increasing trend annually. Publications mainly came from 10 countries, led by the US (n = 363). In the top 100 articles ranked by the number of citations (range 47-1158), American Journal of Gastroenterology (2017 IF = 10.231) took the top spot. The co-citation network had 7 co-citation clusters headed by ‘recurrent Clostridium difficile infection’. The top 7 keywords with the strongest citation bursts had three parts, ‘microbiota’, ‘ diarrhea ’, and ‘case series’. All keywords were divided into four domains, ‘disease’, ‘nosogenesis’, ‘trial’, and ‘therapy’. Conclusions: This study shows the research performance of FMT from 2004 to 2017 and helps investigators master the trend of FMT, which is also an ongoing hotspot of research.

This chapter is devoted to directions in algorithmic classificatory procedures: co-citation analysis as an example of citation network and lexical analysis of keywords in the titles. The chapter gives the results of bibliometric analysis of the international scientific collaboration of EU countries. The three approaches are based on the same general idea of normalization of deviations of the observed data from the mathematical expectation. The application of the same formula leads to discovery of statistically significant links between objects (publication, journals, keywords, etc.) reflected in the maps. Material for this analysis is drawn from DBs presented in ISI Thomson Reuters (at present Clarivate Analytics).

ObjectivesTo analyse trends in the academic literature applying complexity science to healthcare, focusing specifically on bibliometric characteristics and indicators of influence.DesignThis study reports a bibliometric analysis via a systematic search of the academic literature applying complexity science to healthcare.MethodA search of four academic databases was performed on 19 April 2018. Article details were downloaded and screened against inclusion criteria (peer-reviewed journal articles applying complexity science to healthcare). Publication and content data were then collected from included articles, with analysis focusing on trends over time in the types and topics of articles, and where they are published. We also analysed the influence of this body of work through citation and network analyses.ResultsArticles on complexity science in healthcare were published in 268 journals, though a much smaller subset was responsible for a substantial proportion of this literature. USA contributed the largest number of articles, followed by the UK, Canada and Australia. Over time, the number of empirical and review articles increased, relative to non-empirical contributions. However, in general, non-empirical literature was more influential, with a series of introductory conceptual papers being the most influential based on both overall citations and their use as index references within a citation network. The most common topics of focus were health systems and organisations generally, and education, with recent uptake in research, policy, and change and improvement.ConclusionsThis study identified changes in the types of articles on complexity science in healthcare published over time, and their content. There was evidence to suggest a shift from conceptual work to the application of concrete improvement strategies and increasingly in-depth examination of complex healthcare systems. We also identified variation in the influence of this literature at article level, and to a lesser extent by topic of focus.

PurposeThis article offers a bibliometric analysis and explores the relationships among the documents on ecopreneurship by using relational techniques. The results highlight the publication trends; most cited documents, top contributing authors, countries and institutions with highest productivity and most contributing journals to the research field.Design/methodology/approachInitially, 216 documents were retrieved from the Thompson Reuters Web of Science Core Collection database with three document types: articles, review and book review. All the documents were considered for the analysis. Then VOSviewer and bibliometric analysis using R with an inbuilt utility Biblioshiny were used together for co-word analysis, co-citation network analysis, generating collaboration networks and also generating a unique three-field plot to analyze the evolution of a research field.FindingsThe results highlight the publication trends: most cited documents, top contributing authors, countries and institutions with highest productivity and most contributing journals to the research field. The network analysis of co-authorship, co-citation, keyword co-occurrence and bibliographic coupling reveals most prominent relationships between authors, documents, co-cited references, sources and countries for the available documents on the research field.Research limitations/implicationsThe study helps not only in expansion of knowledgebase on the research topic but also in understanding the evolution of the ecopreneurship to provide research support further in this area.Originality/valueEcopreneurship is an emerging field of research connecting ecology and entrepreneurship together, making it a potential research area. The contributions made to this research field from 1989 to 2019 serve as a core for conducting this analysis. The study is an effort to help in coordinating research network across countries, authors and affiliating universities.
