This exploratory study, conducted during the first Covid-19 lockdown, formed part of the practical module of the Teacher Training in Primary Education course at the University of Udine, and was carried out on a sample of trainees enrolled on the course. The research had the following objectives: to understand the effects of the Covid-19 lockdown on trainees and to reflect on the impact on planning of teaching in a traditional classroom environment or in VLE, Virtual Learning Environment. In order to improve the practical components of the course, observations focused on organizational, methodological and pedagogical aspects. The data, gathered in an online questionnaire, provided a comparison of teacher training delivered in person in the pre-Covid period and in later training online. The data also provided information on the strengths and weaknesses of classroom and distance learning, on the use of technology and on the professional development of teachers in the future. The study found a multitude of issues that will need to be further explored in the post Covid period, including rethinking models and approaches in initial teacher training.    Tirocinio di Scienze della Formazione Primaria: uno studio esplorativo nel primo lockdown per Covid.   Il presente studio esplorativo è stato promosso, durante il primo lockdown per Covid-19, all’interno del Tirocinio del Corso di Studi in Scienze della Formazione Primaria dell’Università di Udine su un campione di studenti iscritti al tirocinio. La ricerca esplorativa ha avuto come obiettivi: comprendere le ricadute nei tirocinanti conseguenti allo stato di emergenza e riflettere sulla didattica in presenza e a distanza sui piani organizzativo, metodologico e pedagogico per potenziare l’offerta formativa del tirocinio. I dati, desunti da un questionario online, hanno permesso un confronto sul tirocinio in presenza nel periodo pre-Covid e successivamente svolto in DaD. I dati hanno fornito anche risultati su punti di forza e criticità della didattica in presenza e a distanza, sull’uso delle tecnologie e sulla professionalità docente futura. Lo studio ha inoltre rilevato una molteplicità di aspetti che andranno ulteriormente approfonditi per il periodo post Covid-19, tra cui il ripensamento di modelli ed approcci nella formazione iniziale degli insegnanti.

Introduction: While most of the institution in our country follow the Flexnerian model of medical education, only a handful of medical colleges have embraced the integrated medical curriculum. Literature on impact of integration on the preclinical disciplines is sparse. This study aims to elucidate the impact of integration on the preclinical disciplines, their content, teaching, learning, and assessment. Methods: This qualitative exploratory study was conducted at the University College of Medicine and Dentistry from July to September 2020. Twenty-one semi-structured interviews were conducted with the faculty members from pre-clinical disciplines (Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine & Community Medicine). The data was recorded, transcribed, coded and thematic analysis was done by using Atlas Ti version 7. Results: The thematic analysis of the transcripts resulted in twenty subthemes, from which five themes emerged. The study revealed that the faculty of preclinical disciplines perceived that departmental identity has been compromised since the switch to integrated medical curriculum. But, the relationships, both intradepartmental and interdepartmental of preclinical disciplines have improved significantly. Moreover, the number and depth of topics has also been affected. But the students learning approach was of major concern for the respondents. The student’s performance in the assessments was affected due to their learning approaches. Even though the number of assessments were deemed adequate, the depth of assessments had been negatively affected as a result of integrated assessments. Conclusion: Integrated curriculum has profound impact on pre-clinical disciplines. Any institution that wishes to introduce a modular integrated curriculum should take into account the findings reported in this study. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of community engagement on college students. It is an exploratory study investigating the attitudes and perceived impact of college students having participated in CE, measuring how effective CE is and how well these goals are met on a college campus. Mainly examined is the relationship between impact and student participation in CE. The amount of connectivity a student feels to the community will play a role in their continued college career. General civic engagement attitudes of respondents are assessed. Online surveys with demographic, Likert scale and open-ended questions are administered to give students the opportunity to put their experiences into their own words. Based on previous research in the area, researchers expect that students will gain employable attributes from their participation in CE during college as well as will report high impact and connectivity to the university and the community.

Abstract. Two studies carried out among Albanian public-sector employees examined the impact of different types of affirmative action policies (AAPs) on (counter)stereotypical perceptions of women in decision-making positions. Study 1 (N = 178) revealed that participants – especially women – perceived women in decision-making positions as more masculine (i.e., agentic) than feminine (i.e., communal). Study 2 (N = 239) showed that different types of AA had different effects on the attribution of gender stereotypes to AAP beneficiaries: Women benefiting from a quota policy were perceived as being more communal than agentic, while those benefiting from weak preferential treatment were perceived as being more agentic than communal. Furthermore, we examined how the belief that AAPs threaten men’s access to decision-making positions influenced the attribution of these traits to AAP beneficiaries. The results showed that men who reported high levels of perceived threat, as compared to men who reported low levels of perceived threat, attributed more communal than agentic traits to the beneficiaries of quotas. These findings suggest that AAPs may have created a backlash against its beneficiaries by emphasizing gender-stereotypical or counterstereotypical traits. Thus, the framing of AAPs, for instance, as a matter of enhancing organizational performance, in the process of policy making and implementation, may be a crucial tool to countering potential backlash.

This paper aims at exploring the impact of Islamic human resource (HR) practices on organizational performance though organizational commitment. Data were collected from randomly selected 170 branch managers of six Islamic Banks listed on Dhaka Stock Exchange of Bangladesh. After collecting data, descriptive analysis and structural equation model were done to examine reliability and validity of the model. By analysis, the study finds that Islamic HR practices have more significant impact on organizational performance though organizational commitment rather than the direct effect of Islamic HR practices to organizational performance. The findings of the study advocate that Islamic banks should emphasize more on Islamic HR practices and organizational commitment to uphold their organizational performance.
