The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of knowledge sharing (KS) and two specific types of innovation on competitive advantage in Vietnamese firms. Based on using structural equation modeling (SEM) and survey data collected from 225 participants, the findings reveal that KS directly and indirectly affects firm’s competitive advantage through the mediating role of innovation speed and innovation quality. The findings stress the important role of building a positive climate to stimulate employees for sharing knowledge aimed at improving firm’s innovation capability, and sustaining competitive advantage. Future research needs to explore the relationship between three components of knowledge management namely knowledge acquisition, KS, and knowledge application, innovation, and specific aspects of competitive advantage (such as low cost advantage, differentiation advantage, and time advantage) to provide deeper the mechanism of how specifics aspects of knowledge management connected with firm’s certain types of competitive advantage through innovation.

This paper aims to study a set of motives favoring purchase behavior while testing the mediating role of purchase intention within the context of green consumption. The literature review enabled us to distinguish mostly the following motives: health consciousness, environmental concern and the consumer’s social influence. The moderating roles of perceived consumer effectiveness and price sensitivity are also examined. The findings of a quantitative study involving 480 Tunisian consumers of green products indicate that protecting their health, supporting their environment and expressing their social affiliation are important motives of the consumers’ intention to buy green products. The intensity of these relationships is significantly moderated by the ‘consumer perceived effectiveness’. Thus, for the Tunisian consumer, a purchase intention is not consistent with a purchase behavior. It is indeed affected, in particular, by price sensitivity. The present study provides managerial insights for green marketers to operate in fast growing emerging markets.

In the age of consumption, customers prefer high-quality and exclusively designed luxury brands. This trend is based on a variety of reasons, such as the manifestation of status and wealth, as well as positive emotions and symbolic power created by these brands. The study aims to examine the variables of trust and loyalty to luxury brands, brand preference and price sensitivity, and to determine whether there is a meaningful relationship between these variables. If there is, to investigate the mediating role of price sensitivity in the effect of consumer trust and loyalty to luxury brands on brand preference. The methodological framework of the research includes planned behaviour theory to predict customers’ intentions and behaviours towards luxury brands. The information base of the research includes data from the online survey of 563 respondents from Turkey. Among the main research methods applied in the study are descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. SPSS 22.0 and AMOS software, as well as the principles of structural equation modeling are used to analyze the data. In the research, we could not determine the mediating role of price sensitivity in the effect of brand trust and loyalty on brand preference. A statistically significant, positive, and healthy relationship exists between brand trust and brand loyalty and brand preference. The study shows that the effect of price sensitivity and brand trust on brand preference is weak. The theoretical and practical importance of the study is to support companies in developing successful luxury branding strategies and to contribute to the luxury brand literature.

The authors propose that when consumers’ local identity is accessible, they are less likely to be price sensitive because of a sacrifice mindset. Six studies using divergent measures of the independent and dependent variables as well as diverse samples (students and nonstudents, U.S. and Chinese residents, primary and secondary data) produce consistent results. Furthermore, the authors demonstrate the mediating role of a sacrifice mindset by both measuring and manipulating this construct; they also identify boundary conditions of the association between a consumer's local identity and price sensitivity. Previous research has shown that consumers with a local identity display lower price sensitivity to brands with a local origin. In contrast, the results from this research show that consumers with a local identity display lower price sensitivity even to products with an ambiguous origin. Firms using a globalization strategy can try to activate consumers’ local identity to make them less price sensitive to their brands, without having to position the brands as local.

Purpose – By using the dynamic capabilities (DC) theory and the theory of competitive advantage, the purpose of this paper is to develop a framework to investigate the role of marketing capabilities on the firm’s export performance. Specifically, this framework depicts the consequences of marketing capabilities and focuses on the relationships among marketing capabilities, competitive advantage, and export performance. Design/methodology/approach – The authors conduct a meta-analysis of the literature on marketing capabilities and use multivariate analyses to test the framework. Findings – The study revealed that competitive advantage has an important mediating role in the relationship between marketing capabilities and export performance. Specifically, the authors found that two types of competitive advantage (i.e. low-cost advantage and differentiation advantage) positively mediate the effect of marketing capabilities on export performance. Originality/value – Although research on marketing capabilities is still in its early infancy, the study provides a base from which future work can be developed. The authors also contribute to the literature by examining the mediating role of competitive advantage in the marketing capability-export performance relationship, thereby offering new insights into how and why marketing capabilities play a crucial role in explaining the firm’s export performance.

Abstract. This study examined the effects of disclosure messages in entertainment-education (E-E) on attitudes toward hearing protection and attitude toward the source. In addition, the (mediating) role of the underlying mechanisms (i.e., transportation, identification, and counterarguing) was studied. In an experiment (N = 336), three different disclosure messages were compared with a no-disclosure condition. The results show that more explicit disclosure messages negatively affect transportation and identification and stimulate the generation of counterarguments. In addition, the more explicit disclosure messages affect both attitude measures via two of these processes (i.e., transportation and counterarguing). Less explicit disclosure messages do not have this effect. Implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract. This study investigated the mediating role of coping humor in the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and job satisfaction. Participants were 398 primary school teachers in China, who completed the Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, Coping Humor Scale, and Overall Job Satisfaction Scale. Results showed that coping humor was a significant mediator between EI and job satisfaction. A further examination revealed, however, that coping humor only mediated two sub-dimensions of EI (use of emotion and regulation of emotion) and job satisfaction. Implications for future research and limitations of the study are discussed.
