Economic, political, and technological uncertainties require organizations to prepare adequately for new events that occur each day. Economic crisis, changes in the policies of each country and technological developments are classic examples of these changes in organizations. Seasonality is one of the economic phenomena that occur, and different forms of management are required. The seasonality that is described as a systematic and temporal imbalance of the tourist phenomenon that does not need to be regular, caused by the climate or by the vacation periods, and is based on the consumer behavior that can be expressed in terms of the number of visitors, traffic, highways, jobs, and tickets at attractions. Therefore, through a careful analysis of seasonality, it is possible that the losses are predicted, and the negative impact is not so grotesque on the company. For this, it is good that the manager uses the cost assessment methods to assume the seasonality of sales and thus be able to guard against the negative effects of the same. The objective of this research is to understand how owners of micro and small businesses in coastal cities consider themselves entrepreneurs or not and how they deal with obstacles such as seasonality through cost management. The methodology used was based on an exploratory and bibliographic research with a qualitative approach, seeking to analyze the triad: Entrepreneurship, Seasonality and Cost Management. The field research was applied through a semi-structured questionnaire to the sample of 100 Microentrepreneurs in the trade of goods and services in Caraguatatuba and São Sebastião, central cities of the North Coast of São Paulo. The main results show that most of the interviewed entrepreneurs perceive a certain impact caused by seasonality, understand the use of Cost Management to improve their processes and are adapted to one of the main costing methods highlighted by the bibliography.

The West Amazon peoples show a low economic and social development pattern, even when there are plenty of natural resources. It looks like there is a huge gap between these resources, the investments, the knowledge, and the public policies able to create a better life quality for the Amazonians. This work looks forward to promoting the development of the Amazon according to ways shown by the creative economy and the U Theory, special attention will be given to the Amazonian situation and the path to its cognitive development and subsequent economic development. The work is in the academia and communities that search for a viable alternative to creative and sustainable development. From this standpoint, the proposed general objective is to study the instrumentation of the creative economy with input from the U theory. As specific objectives: to perform a critical analysis of the raised concepts (1); to point towards the circularity elements of the creative economy in the community (2); and refer to the acknowledged instrumentation in this study in support to the creative economy, having as baseline the U Theory (3). Hence, the problem proposed is: how the concepts brought up by the creative economy with the support of the U Theory can contribute to the West Amazon’s economic, social and sustainable development promotion. It is meant as qualitative research with a content analysis method, in which the data was gathered through bibliographic search and interviews. In the results, it is proposed a competence and ability management space to the leaderships, beginning at the Amazonian home. It is due to capacitating and training these producers under innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability concepts. It is requested the attendance to rules and techniques be respected by the producer of products elaborated with the available raw material.

This article, through a literature review, explores evidence that public governance positively influences and stimulates the innovation ecosystem, the co-creation, and co-production of resilience in communities that are victims of disasters, shocks, and even pandemic disasters, such as COVID-19. Disaster scenarios of all kinds cause millions of damage to society. The negative impacts of these contexts disasters, shocks, catastrophes, even if pandemic, such as COVID-19, can be greater or lesser, depending on the dysfunctions of governance and the negative barriers to the creation of public policies consistent with the capacity for resilience. Thus, the possible solution to this scenario may be based on public governance, if the pubic governance is instituted in an organized, integrated, and articulated manner. For this purpose, a theoretical conceptual framework of value creation is proposed through public governance that values and stimulates the innovation ecosystem, the co-creation, co-production of value, and a static, hierarchical, and linear structural vision. There is theoretical evidence that public governance can promote resilience in communities that are victims of disasters, shocks, pandemics or disturbances, through an ecosystem of innovation, co-creation and co-production of value. In this regard, at the end of this article, a theoretical-conceptual framework for creating public value is proposed.

The objective of the present study is to determine the transparency level of Rio Grande do Sul state’s municipalities, identifying the variables that explain it. This is a documental and quantitative research, observing the most recent information disclosed in the state’s transparency websites, identifying if the data disclosure is correct, through the Municipal Public Management’s Transparency Index, as well as the regression analysis and descriptive statistics. In this way, it is possible to observe that most state’s municipalities present an average level of transparency. Besides, it was observed that, from the eleven socioeconomical variables that were analyzed, only five are capable of influencing the transparency index. Therefore, many measures must still be adopted by the state’s municipal managements, so that they enforce the Access to Information Law and fulfill all of the aspects that come from the transparency.

Considering the environmental impacts of utility activities and the lack of literature systematic understanding of the different factors affecting utility performance with a specific consideration of the environmental sphere, this article tries to bridge this gap conducting a literature review on factors affecting utility performance. An aspect of novelty of the paper is represented by the clusterization of literature (also useful for future studies) that considers the environmental sphere both among factors of influence and as performance dimensions. The analysis conducts to conclude that both as influencing factors and as performance dimensions, the environmental role should be more widely and deeply investigated by literature. The research highlights some managerial implications: the appointment of managers should consider their “green skills” as factor influencing performance of the utilities; the need to develop managerial tools to make the decision-making process effective and efficient also in the environmental sphere.

The present study aims to carry out an international analysis of the biofuels sector, from the United States, Brazil and China, in order to verify how countries have dealt with strategies for adding technology and value to the sector. The methodology of this study is focused on the analysis of data on the economic complexity of the biofuels sector, relating production and innovation indicators, from a quantitative and qualitative point of view. Very clear situations are evidenced in terms of international perspectives for the evolution of the biofuels sector among the countries selected in this study. The United States is a world leader in the production of biofuels and also increases its leadership in the technological domain through the generation of patents in Brazil, which is also a major international competitor, however, a less complex sector. In the era of patents, China, despite hardly appearing as a major international producer, has been investing heavily in the generation of new technologies, also betting on the complexity of the sector.

This study examined the cross-cultural performance of a new scale to measure followers' satisfaction with their leader. The scale was designed to give a generalizable measure of followers' response to their leader's behavior, one which is applicable across various leader-follower relationships and in different cultures. Using a diverse global sample of experienced followers who were familiar with their current leaders, the results supported the scale's utility. It performed well in all cultures, with good reliability and both convergent and discriminant validity. The scale offers a brief, widely applicable measure to advance the cross-cultural study of leadership.

This article reviewed the literature to highlight how governance in hydroelectric enterprises is configured and the impacts on natural resources resulting from this type of energy production. The methodological procedures were based on the PRISMA recommendation (Main Items for Reporting Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis) and indexed articles were used from the SCOPUS database. It was evidenced that more than 1/3 of the studies were conducted in Brazil, highlighting the potential of the Amazon region of the country for the construction of hydroelectric dams. Four essential subjects were identified as to be observed by the governance of these enterprises: stakeholder participation, habitat fragmentation, social impacts, and impacts on fish species. These subjects constitute three categories that synthesize governance in hydroelectric projects and the impacts on natural resources: energy policies – which generate benefits for the private sector and contemplate very little the local communities and the environment; water resources and fish - the impacts are related to the type of enterprise to be built, which can compromise the migration and reproduction of fish, in addition to the increasing concentration of nutrients in reservoirs and changes of the water quality; and biodiversity and ecosystem – which are affected by the fragmentation and alteration of natural habitats caused by dam floods.

The involvement of firms in charitable initiatives has been put into practice utilizing direct corporate donations, corporate volunteering, and cause-related marketing. Despite the popularity of such marketing tools, consumers have become skeptical of such practices. The corporate sector and charity organizations struggle to channel more resources toward charity causes. In light of this, the study investigates how value-driven individual differences – self-construal – moderate the relationship between social distance and donation behavior. The results of two experiments reveal that, when individuals evaluate donation options jointly, social distance evokes a mental process through which individuals tend to go for time donations, if the event is organized by someone similar, whereas individuals tend to choose the money donation option if the event is organized by someone dissimilar. The interaction effect is well pronounced, concerning money donations compared to time donations. Moreover, the lower social distance attenuates skepticism towards Cause-Related Marketing (CRM) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

In the latter, there has been an increasing importance attributed to the measurement of social value and social impact that various organizations create. The demand to measure this value comes from all sides: funders who want to direct their money to the most effective projects, policy makers and government officials must be accountable for their spending decisions, and social organizations need to demonstrate their impact to financiers, partners and beneficiaries. This article intends to classify social companies through theoretical types and analyze their characteristics to understand social innovation. The first stage of the project was the elaboration of the theoretical framework on the themes of social enterprise, typology of social enterprises, social business model and social innovation. The research instrument was an interview guide, and the next step was to select three social companies of different types to carry out the empirical research. These typologies were tested in three social companies in the empirical research and the effectiveness of the typologies was proven.
