We present preliminary results on the branching fractions [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], based on a data sample of approximately [Formula: see text] events collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e-B–factory. We reconstruct B0 mesons using both a partial and a full reconstruction technique. We obtain the following preliminary results: [Formula: see text] where the first error in each measurement is statistical, the second systematic.

The e+e- annihilation data recorded with the BABAR detector has been used to study B decays to [Formula: see text] and D*± mesons. The production fraction of inclusive [Formula: see text] and the corresponding momentum spectra have been determined. Exclusive decays [Formula: see text] have been identified with a partial reconstruction technique and their branching fractions have been measured. We also report branching fraction measurements for the exclusive hadronic modes B0 → D*- π+ and B0 → D*- ρ+.

Knowledge of the frequencies and amplitudes and single-mode versus multi-mode behavior of deepwater riser responses is important for accurate fatigue analysis. The extraction of this information from measured riser responses is a significant challenge given the complexity of the phenomena involved with riser vibrations. An existing technique for obtaining modal amplitudes, wavelet ridge extraction (WRE), has been shown to return a smoothed version of the actual amplitude envelope, resulting in attenuated peak values. In this paper, we introduce a new wavelet-based technique, partial reconstruction of wavelet transforms, for accurately extracting amplitude envelopes of the modes from multi-mode signals. The partial reconstruction technique is proposed to circumvent problems presented by WRE by making use of information available from the inverse wavelet transform. It is demonstrated with synthesized test signals that the new technique provides much more accurate modal envelopes than does WRE. Finally, to illustrate the technique for practical riser response signals, the partial reconstruction technique is applied to representative acceleration fluctuations measured from a drilling riser in the Schiehallion field.

We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction [Formula: see text] at the ϒ(4S) resonance using data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage ring. The analysis is performed with partial reconstruction of the decay [Formula: see text], where the presence of a signal decay is determined using only the lepton and the soft pion from the D* decay. By reconstructing events with one or two signal decays, we obtain a preliminary result of [Formula: see text]. Our result does not depend on branching fractions of the [Formula: see text] and the D*+ decays, on the individual simulated reconstruction efficiencies, on the ratio of the charged and neutral B meson lifetimes, or on the assumption of isospin symmetry.
