Obesity with its devastating consequences is a global health problem of this era. Presently Obesity in India has reached epidemic proportions in the 21st century, with morbid Obesity affecting 5% of the country’s population. The characteristic features of Obesity have close resemblance with Sthoulya in Ayurveda. Sthoulya is one among Santharpanottha Vyadhi, one among the Ashta Nindita Purushas, Kapha Nanatmaja Vyadhi and Dushta Medo Roga. Sthoulya being Bahudoshavasta and Mamsala, Medhura and Bhuri Sleshma Vyadhi. Hence, considering the condition, a comparative study was planned to compare the efficacy of Rookshana Poorvaka Vamana and Virechana Karma. The objective criteria were assessed before and after treatment. The results was statistically highly significant within the group, at the level of P value less than 0.001. Between the groups, Rookshana Poorvaka Vamana Karma group showed better results in comparision of mean difference to that of Rookshana Poorvaka Virechana Karma group.

Abstract The treatment of tuberculosis (TB) poses a major challenge as frontline therapeutic agents become increasingly ineffective with the emergence and spread of drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). To combat this global health problem, new antitubercular agents with novel modes of action are needed. We have screened a close family of 17 organometallic half-sandwich Os(II) complexes [(arene)Os(phenyl-azo/imino-pyridine)(Cl/I)]+Y– containing various arenes (p-cymene, biphenyl, or terphenyl), and NMe2, F, Cl, or Br phenyl or pyridyl substituents, for activity towards Mtb in comparison with normal human lung cells (MRC5). In general, complexes with a monodentate iodido ligand were more potent than chlorido complexes, and the five most potent iodido complexes (MIC 1.25–2.5 µM) have an electron-donating Me2N or OH substituent on the phenyl ring. As expected, the counter anion Y (PF6–, Cl–, I–) had little effect on the activity. The pattern of potency of the complexes towards Mtb is similar to that towards human cells, perhaps because in both cases intracellular thiols are likely to be involved in their activation and their redox mechanism of action. The most active complex against Mtb is the p-cymene Os(II) NMe2-phenyl-azopyridine iodido complex (2), a relatively inert complex that also exhibits potent activity towards cancer cells. The uptake of Os from complex 2 by Mtb is rapid and peaks after 6 h, with temperature-dependence studies suggesting a major role for active transport. Significance to Metallomics Antimicrobial resistance is a global health problem. New advances are urgently needed in the discovery of new antibiotics with novel mechanisms of action. Half-sandwich organometallic complexes offer a versatile platform for drug design. We show that with an appropriate choice of the arene, an N,N-chelated ligand, and monodentate ligand, half-sandwich organo–osmium(II) complexes can exhibit potent activity towards Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the leading cause of death from a single infectious agent. The patterns of activity of the 17 azo- and imino-pyridine complexes studied here towards Mtb and normal lung cells suggest a common redox mechanism of action involving intracellular thiols.

Due to present day lifestyle, a greater number of people are inclined to desk work and computer usage leading to many disorders. Manyasthamba is one among such disorders where the stiffness of neck with severe pain is the classical symptom which hampers our day to day life. While explaining treatment of Manyasthamba our Acharyas explained Rukshasweda and Nasya Karma as main line of treatment. Here a study was done by taking Gudashunti Yoga explained in Sharangadara Samhita indicated for Nasya and Kolakulattadi Churna indicated in Vatavyadhi explained in Ashtanga Sangraha for Ruksha Churna Sweda. A comparative clinical study of 40 patients suffering from Manyastambha were selected after thorough investigation. Patients were subjected to Nasya Karma in Group A and Ruksha Sweda and Nasya Karma in Group B for 7 days. Patients were assessed based on standard parameters before and after treatment and 7 days follow up. The statistical analysis revealed that there was a significant improvement in parameters like pain and stiffness. Hence proving the efficacy in the condition.

Nowadays, people are more vulnerable to metabolic disorders due to their faulty dietary and behavioural habits. One such disorder is Vatarakta which causes functional impairment due to involvement of Sandhi (joints). It is manifested by Ruk, Toda, Sparsha asahatva, Shopha, Raga, Daha and Stabdhata in Sandhi. Vatarakta can be correlated with Hyperuricaemia or Gout due to similarity in their clinical features. Hyperuricaemia is defined as abnormally high level of uric acid in blood (i.e. >6mg/dl in female and >7mg/dl in male). On the other hand, Gout is an inflammatory response to monosodium urate crystals formed secondary to hyperuricaemia. Aims and objectives: 1. To evaluate the effectiveness of Trikarshika kwatha and lifestyle modification in the management of Vatarakta. 2. To compare the effects of Trikarshika kwatha with and without lifestyle modification in the management of Vatarakta. Materials and methods: Raw herbs of the research formulation were collected after proper identification and Kwatha was prepared for oral administration. For the clinical study, total 60 patients were selected on the basis of selection criteria. Selected patients were randomly divided into two groups. (i) Group A: 30 patients were treated with Trikarshika kwatha. (ii) Group B: 30 patients were treated with Trikarshika kwatha along with Lifestyle modification. Individual patient was treated for 45 days along with follow up at the interval of every 15 days. To assess the effectiveness of treatment, scoring pattern was followed for subjective and objective parameters. They were assessed before and after treatment. The collected data were analysed statistically by using Paired t-test. Results: On the basis of all statistical data, it can be said that patients of Group B showed better results in all parameters in comparison to patients of Group A. Conclusion: Both Trikarshika kwatha and Lifestyle modification are affective but Trikarshika kwatha with Lifestyle modification is more effective than Trikarshika kwatha without Lifestyle modification in the management of Vatarakta.
