The health tourism Industry is witnessing a sudden paradigm shift in last five years. India has become a home of traditional medicine that has been practiced for several thousand years as a part of manav dharma to give relief to the needy and mostly free of cost. With modern diagnostic and treatment facilities, experienced surgeons, one of the largest pharmaceutical industries in world, and a tradition of caring, India provides world class surgical and healthcare facilities, with comparable success rates and prompt service levels. The potential of medical tourism is such that it can even surpass the revenue earned from IT sector. Recognizing the pivotal contribution of medical tourism to the economic development, the Indian Government has initiated numerous measures to promote this vary young industry to attract international tourism. This has motivated to identify recent trends and opportunities in India for the medical and healthcare tourism, and to explore the critical factors which can lead to success of initiatives taken by ministry of tourism for the development of medical tourism in India. Finally paper suggests measures to enhance medical tourism in the country.

India is quickly becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The rise of India as a tourist destination can be attributed to a number of factors. The growth of medical tourism in India is one of the reasons examined in this paper. Healthcare tourism is when people from all over the world fly to another country to receive medical, dental, and surgical treatment when exploring, vacationing, and completely immersing themselves in the attractions of the countries they are visiting. In the medical tourism industry, India is one of the most popular destinations. Medical tourism is experiencing rapid growth in India. Medical tourists cross foreign boundaries in search of medical care. Medical tourism has developed to become a multibillion-dollar industry. It is important to remember that the primary goal of medical tourists is to provide high-quality medical care at an affordable cost. When compared to other developing countries in the world, India has emerged as the most sought-after destination for medical tourists due to the availability of world-class doctors at affordable prices. In addition, India has a wide range of tourist destinations. It has tremendous potential for creating jobs and earning large sums of foreign currency. The paper ends with policy recommendations for advancing the rapidly growing medical tourism industry.

SME healthcare includes the number of beds and other healthcare facilities that are not inpatient-based. While there are over 70 Malaysian healthcare centres that attract foreign patients, only thirteen are internationally accredited. Analysis from literature found that Malaysian SME healthcare providers are not ready for accreditation which partially due to financial and human resource constraints. Future research is called to gain empirical data on understanding the readiness, challenges and strategies to be implemented. The article is prominent in assisting the SME healthcare providers’ behavioural change on the way towards accreditation for the growth of the medical tourism industry in Malaysia. In the recent era medical tourism has certain significance place in the tourism industry, In India now famous for low cost medical service with high quality medical treatment. The countries where medical tourism is being actively promoted include Greece, South Africa, Jordan, India, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore. Recently, Indian healthcare sector shows huge advancements in fields such as technology, infrastructure, and manpower, catapulting India as one of the preferred medical destinations in the world and invariably paving path to an entirely new sector, the medical tourism industry. The medical tourism in India will touch the $8 billion mark by the end of 2020, the influx of the population that experiences a saving of close to 50 to 70 percent on medical tourism industry. Cost effectiveness is a major factor in India, because a patient can undergo any type of treatment at an extremely affordable cost without compromising the quality and other reason is of course the availability of medical visa without any hassle. The Indian government predicts that, India $17-billion-a-year healthcare industry could grow 13 per cent in each of the next six years, boosted by medical tourism, which industry watchers say is growing at 30 per cent annually. This study has been focused by the fully by secondary data, which are collected from the Indian tourism department, and also it analyze the growth percentage in Past years, it will be more helpful to medical service providers. Mainly this study’s objective was examining the foreign exchange earning option through medical tourism and analysis of annual growth of foreign tourist in India. It proves that the annual growth an efficiency of handling capacity of Indian medical the medical industry

The Impact

It is a well-documented fact that COVID -19 pandemic is having a ravaging effect across the world, lives, livelihoods, lifestyles, life forms and more have been heavily impacted. To control the spread of pandemic Indian government adopted different approaches like - three weeks lockdown imposing social distancing, closure of non essential and businesses and very high restrictions on the mobility of people. All these measure had repercussions on the economy and severe impact among the tribal communities because of limited resources of livelihood, lack of access to Covid-19 testing and healthcare facilities, disruption of supply chains etc. According to government sources more than 10 crore forest dwellers depend on minor forest produce (MFPs) for earning income to meet their basic expenses. Due to the extensive lock down measures government failed to provide employment to tribal people under schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY). This has triggered an increase in the dependence of the tribal population on the sale of forest produce. Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) should plan more supportive policy measures to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the living conditions of the tribal community.The paper focusses on the first wave of the pandemic and its impact on tribal community.
