Objective. The present paper aims to investigate the role of computed tomography as an imaging technique of diagnosis in the identification of the os cordis in ovine, and also how this anatomical structure is morphotopographically characterized in macro and microscopic contexts, seeking to contribute for its functional understanding. Materials and method. The heart of a young male ovine had been donated to the Laboratory of Animal Anatomy of the Surgery Department of the FMVZ/USP, first being subject to a post-mortem examination by means of the cardiac “shedding” (transverse cross sectioning of the heart). A tomographic examination of the anatomic specimen was carried out, as well as the dissection and histological analysis of the collected sample. Results. The results indicate the presence of an osseous structure of 6.39 mm in length, located in the aortic valve of the heart, next to a ring comprised by three valve flaps, tendinous cords, and papillary muscles. The histological findings consist of fibrous connective tissue, cancellous bone tissue, and calcified hyaline cartilage wherein the cardiomyocytes are attached. Conclusions. It is concluded that computed tomography, even though seldom applied to animals of zootechnical interest, poses as an effective tool for the visualization of the os cordis in lambs.

Traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) is an important cause of vision loss in the setting of cranial and/or facial trauma. Both direct and indirect variants exist, with the latter being more common. We describe the case of a young male presenting with loss of vision following trauma with an intact globe, an intraorbital foreign body, and Onodi cell hemorrhage. The challenges in diagnoses of type of TON, exact pathology, and management are discussed. We also highlight the role of thin section digital computed tomography imaging which is paramount for timely detection of subtle injuries and their management.

Introduction: Visceral pseudoaneurysms are pathological dilations of the visceral arteries and/or their branches. They are a rare entity but with devastating consequences given their high potential for rupture and hemorrhage. The evolution of endovascular techniques has changed the paradigm in the treatment of this entity, making it the preferred option for the elective treatment of visceral pseudoaneurysms. Clinical case: The authors described the case of a pancreatic pseudoaneurysm in a young male patient, with past medical history of chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic pseudocyst, marked smoking and alcoholic habits, which presented with an abdominal pain and a drop in hemoglobin. After discussing the case with the Vascular Surgery department, it was decided towards an endovascular treatment given the patient's clinical stability and appropriate anatomical location for the proposed intervention. Coil embolization via humeral artery was performed with immediate angiographic success, and clinical, analytical and imaging improvement in the postoperative period. Conclusion: In addition to open surgical repair and laparoscopic surgery, there are also endovascular procedures for the treatment of visceral pseudoaneurysms, so the vascular surgeon must be aware with the available strategies, taking into account the patient, the characteristics and location of the visceral pseudoaneurysm.

<p align="left">Vanishing lung syndrome (VLS), also known as giant bullous emphysema (GBE) is a distinct clinical syndrome usually affecting young male smokers characterised by large bullae that involve at least one-third of one or both hemithoraces. We are reporting one such case in a 40-year-old male patient, who was a chronic smoker for past 20 years. He was diagnosed having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on the basis of his history and chest X-ray findings 5 years back and treated symptomatically. He was never suspected of having VLS until a computed tomography of thorax done in our department revealed characteristic findings of VLS with pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema. Bullectomy, either via video thoracoscopy or conventional thoracotomy, is the treatment of choice. The patient is now in follow-up with pulmonary medicine department. This case exemplifies role of HRCT thorax in timely diagnosis and planning appropriate treatment of VLS.</p>

Background: the present study was under taken to determine the role of CA-125 in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis (AA), to prevent its complications and also in preventing negative appendicectomies in tertiary care hospital. Methods: The study was conducted at a tertiary care and research center between 01/03/2018 to 30/06/2019. Patients admitted to the surgery department with diagnosis of AA were considered for the study. After informed consent, a, standardized history was obtained as a case Performa. Serum samples from all the cases with clinical diagnosis of AA were obtained and stored. Only the cases with histopathologically approved AA were included in the study. Cases operated for clinical diagnosis of AA, but not histopathologically proven AA was not included in the study. CA125 levels in cases with definitive diagnosis of AA were measured. Results: In present study, ROC curve analysis revealed the sensitivity of 87.27 % and specificity of 90.91 % when the CA 125 cut-off value of > 16.8 was taken to diagnose acute appendicitis. AUC was 0.911 with a standard error of 0.0292. Conclusion: In this study we have observed that CA125 showed a positive correlation with acute appendicitis, that was statistically not significant (P>0.05). We didn’t evaluate the correlation with the disease severity. We consider that CA125 can be used as a marker in acute appendicitis cases although further research is still needed. A többszeletes spirál-CT-berendezések széles körű alkalmazása és a perfúziós szoftverek bevezetése lehetővé tette az agyi véráramlás CT-vizsgálatát. Cél és módszerek: A szerzők ismertetik az agyi perfúziós CT-vizsgálatok elvét, technikáját, amelyet az elmúlt másfél évben 96 betegükön végzett vizsgálatuk tapasztalataival egészítenek ki. A folyamatos technikai fejlődés eredményeként a közeljövőben lehetővé válik a teljes agy perfúziós CT-vizsgálata. Következtetések: Az agy perfúziós CT-vizsgálata gyors, viszonylag olcsó és a stroke kórismézésében pontos diagnózist eredményez.
