The research of optimization for steel truss bridge based on reliability theory is discussed by using optimization and reliability module in ANSYS software. The reliability design method is elucidated by comparing the results of common design with general optimization and reliability optimization.

Finite element method and optimization method are two major ones in engineering analysis. The optimization of a wedged-ring joint structure can be performed by using these two methods unitedly. The response surface design method was employed to determine the combination of geometrical parameters to be designed of the wedged-ring joint structure. The stress of the wedged-ring joint structure which has the different geometrical parameters was numerically simulated and analyzed by using engineering software ANSYS. The optimized geometrical parameters of the wedged-ring structure were obtained by using MATLAB multi-objective optimization method. The results show that the maximum stress and the mass of the optimized wedged-ring structure decrease 13.6% and 12.5%, respectively.

The plastic deformation as a main form of failure of Interference Joints may happen in engineering works if it is designed unreasonably. In this paper, the contact stress and the strength of Interference Joint parts were analyzed deeply. Based on the theory of the reliability design, the general formulas and the method of the reliability design and computation for Interference Joint were established in consideration of joint structure, machining precision, interference value, mechanical properties of the joint parts and their randomicity. The practical design method, which would promote the reliability of Interference Joint effectively, was proposed for larger size and some other important Interference Joints. Compared to the conventional design method, the working reliability of Interference Joints can be improved obviously by means of the reliability design method.
