advanced control system design for large wind turbines is becoming increasingly complex, and high-level optimization techniques are receiving particular attention as an instrument to fulfil this significant degree of design requirements. Multiobjective optimal (MOO) control, in particular, is today a popular methodology for achieving a control system that conciliates multiple design objectives that may typically be incompatible. Multiobjective optimization was a matter of theoretical study for a long time, particularly in the areas of game theory and operations research. Nevertheless, the discipline experienced remarkable progress and multiple advances over the last two decades. Thus, many high-complexity optimization algorithms are currently accessible to address current control problems in systems engineering. On the other hand, utilizing such methods is not straightforward and requires a long period of trying and searching for, among other aspects, start parameters, adequate objective functions, and the best optimization algorithm for the problem. Hence, the primary intention of this work is to investigate old and new MOO methods from the application perspective for the purpose of control system design, offering practical experience, some open topics, and design hints. A very challenging problem in the system engineering application of power systems is to dominate the dynamic behavior of very large wind turbines. For this reason, it is used as a numeric case study to complete the presentation of the paper.

AbstractThe entry vehicle for the Tianwen-1 mission successfully landed on the surface of Mars at 7:18 AM BJT on May 15, 2021. This successful landing made China the first country to orbit, land, and release a rover in their first attempt at the Mars exploration. The guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system plays a crucial role in the entry, descent, and landing (EDL) phases. This study focused on the attitude control component of the GNC system design. The EDL phase can be divided into several sub-phases, namely the angle of attack control phase, lift control phase, parachute descent phase, and powered descent phase. Each sub-phase has unique attitude control requirements and challenges. This paper introduces the key aspects of designing attitude controllers for each phase. Furthermore, flight results are presented and analyzed.

Purpose As a short take-off and landing aircraft, FanWing has the capability of being driven under power a short distance from a parking space to the take-off area. The purpose of this paper is to design the take-off control system of FanWing and study the factors that influence the short take-off performance under control. Design/methodology/approach The force analysis of FanWing is studied in the take-off phase. Two take-off control methods are researched, and several factors that influence the short take-off performance are studied under control. Findings The elevator and fan wing control systems are designed. Although the vehicle load increases under the fan wing control, the fan wing control is not a recommended practice in the take-off phase for its sensitivity to the pitch angle command. The additional pitch-down moment has a significant influence on the control system and the short take-off performance that the barycenter variation of FanWing should be considered carefully. Practical implications The presented efforts provide a reference for the location of the center of gravity in designing FanWing. The traditional elevator control is more recommended than the fan wing control in the take-off phase. Originality/value This paper offers a valuable reference on the control system design of FanWing. It also proves that there is an additional pith-down moment that needs to be paid close attention to. Four factors that influence the short take-off performance are compared under control.

Flood concern everybody in every flood area. It makes the researchers interest to take the research about flood detection system, especially in rivers by using mobile phone facilities. The procedure of this tool is if the flood rise due to overflow of the river, then the river guard will receive SMS to tell the people to anticipate the flood by sounding the alarm until the entire riverbank area. This SMS delivery is via connection to telecommunications network using SMS gateway module. This tool can be used as a flood emergency which is installed at river location points where sensors and control devices are permanently installed. This research has been successful and has been well tested in its implementation.

The Brushless Doubly Fed Reluctance Machine (BDFRM) is an emerging alternative for variable speed drive systems, providing a significant downsizing of the power electronics converter. This paper proposes a new view on the machine equations, allowing the reuse of the standard control system design for conventional synchronous and asynchronous machines: a cascade control system with an inner current control- and outer speed control loop. The assumptions and simplifications made on the machine model allow for a simple, model-based approach to set the controller gains in a brushless doubly fed machine drive system. The cascade control scheme is combined with an Unscented unscented Kalman Filter filter as a state observer, capable of estimating the load torque and losses. The performance of the proposed control system design is checked in simulation and tested in real-time on a low power BDFRM prototype.
