A summer high school baseball tournament is held every mid-summer in Koshien Stadium. “Koshien Baseball” is very popular in Japan; however, it faces the problem of extremely high temperatures during games. Thus, high school players are threatened by the harsh environment. For this reason, Internet surveys were conducted twice to purposefully engage the same individuals. Then, information on their views regarding the Koshien tournament before and after the provision of information regarding environmental change in Japan was gathered. Using data, this study examined how their views changed after having the information. Compared with the view before, it was found that (1) respondents were more likely to agree that the management rule of the Koshien tournaments should be altered to protect player’s health, and (2) the impact of providing information is larger for female respondents, young people, and highly educated respondents.

В статье представлен метод комбинирования данных интервьюирования и интернет-опроса, заключающийся в использовании интернет-опроса в качестве дополнительного источника социологических данных для устранения смещений выборки интервьюирования по квотным признакам. The article presents a method for combining interview data and an Internet survey, which consists in using an Internet survey as an additional source of sociological data to eliminate bias in the interview sample based on quota criteria. The method is based on obtaining weighted average values of indicators based on the results of combining data from two different surveys that differ in the way they communicate with respondents. The effectiveness of using the combined method for constructing predictive estimates of the socio-economic and socio-political situation in the region of high accuracy has been experimentally proved.

The main aim of the article is to present an analysis of the current challenges and threats to the Transport-Forwarding-Logistics (TFL) sector in Poland based on internet surveys. The aim of the article is, therefore, to investigate whether the challenges and threats described by managers in a two-year perspective are related to sustainable development. This area primarily concerns external conditions. On the other hand, in the surveys that were the subjects of the analyses, a section related to sustainable development in economic, environmental, and social terms was identified, in which the focus was primarily on the internal activities of the company. The article has a practical dimension. The article analyzes comments from managers posted in an internet survey. They constitute a separate part of the questionnaire, which mainly concerns financial indicators and other factors that determine the company’s competitiveness. Half of the respondents are companies with foreign capital, and half-Polish companies. Based on the comments over a three-year period with over sixty managers from logistics companies in Poland, an analysis of the most important challenges that companies in the logistics industry have to face in the near future was presented. The survey is a part of a broader research project that has been conducted in the form of a quantitative survey among approximately sixty TFL companies for twenty-five years on an annual basis. The results of the survey are supplemented with an attempt to analyze the current situation in 2020 related to the impending economic recession as a result of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat. The surveyed companies constitute a significant part of the TFL market in Poland. Thus, they are the benchmark for the entire industry. Therefore, an important value of the presented analysis is the up-to-date research, as well as the ability to relate the results and developed scenarios to the entire TFL sector.

Caregiving is a difficult field to study due to the subjective nature of the data. Insufficient research exists exploring the situation of elder-elder caregiving (where the caregiver is 64 years old or older and caring for a care recipient, who is also 64 years old or older.) This article investigates this relationship to better understand changes in caregiving specific to this population. METHODS: Statistical tests were performed on publicly available data sets from the National Alliance for Caregiving. Data sets were collected via telephone and internet surveys in 1997, 2004, 2009, and 2014, from a random sample of caregivers. RESULTS: 989 responses were analyzed. ANOVA and post-hoc tests found a significant statistical difference (p < 0.0001) between the mean age of elder-elder caregivers for all years when compared to 2014. The largest increase in mean age of elder-elder caregivers was from 70 years old in 2004 to 74 years old in 2014. No correlation was found between elder-elder caregiver age and level of burden experienced due to caregiving. The average length of time of elder-elder caregiving was approximately five years. CONCLUSION: The lack of prior investigation on this population may be concealing the needs of elder-elder caregivers. Further research could help society prioritize education and inform action plans to assist elder-elder caregivers, so that a.) they have a higher quality of life near the end of life, and b.) their caregiving workload does not shift to institutional health care settings.

The article is dedicated to finding reasons for the reliability of such a data collection tool as Internet surveys. The article consistently presents the arguments “pro” and “contra” using online surveys. In the scientific community, “contra” arguments are often put forward considering ideal research standards, which are often not feasible even in proven methods of data collection, such as censuses, phone surveys, etc. Based on this, in the article each argument “contra” is placed into the comparative plane — by examining the Internet surveys’ accusations of insufficient representativeness, sampling bias, and other disadvantages along with similar arguments against accepted methods of data collection, the lack of theoretical and methodological foundation of these charges is revealed. The irrelevance of “contra” arguments is also shown by analyzing global and Russian trends in the spread of the Internet and computer literacy. The “pro” arguments presented in the article are intended to demonstrate the features of generalization of findings obtained using online surveys, considering the specifics of this type of data collection. The evidence presented in the article for the validity of data obtained in online surveys confirms the possibility of using them in particular for making legal and public management decisions, provided that the specifics of the obtained data are taken into account.

The paper presents selected problems related to the quality assessment from the statistical perspective of survey data based on Internet sources. Internet access is consequently expanding all over the world. In parallel with the running development of other new technologies, it is pervading daily life and business activities more and more. It also has influenced surveys practice to a large extent as a research tool for collecting both primary and secondary data, and it also challenges surveys to research the Internet population. Moreover, as the Internet and its entities are able to register all activities that are performed on the web, issues related to big data and organic data processing as well as their applications arise. As a result of decreasing response rates and increasing survey costs, Internet data collection is constantly growing. Due to many advantages, Internet surveys are used widely and this process seems to be inevitable. However, it needs to be emphasised that Internet surveys are developing in practice faster than the methodology in this area. Hence, a lot of problems can be identified, especially when considering the quality of data based on Internet sources. The following issues are discussed as the most far-reaching in the prism of statistical survey methodology: determination of the sampling frame, self-selection and related estimates bias, as well as under/over-coverage.
