This study aims to improve students' scientific literacy skills in grade 9B at the 7th State Junior High School Muaro Jambi by learning Discovery Learning Muja. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. The research instruments were learning observation sheets, student observation sheets, scientific literacy tests, attitude questionnaires. The indicator of the success of students' scientific literacy was that at least 50% of respondents have achieved scientific literacy in the good category. The application of Muja's Discovery Learning on plant and animal breeding materials in grade 9B at the 7th State Junior High School Muaro Jambi can improve scientific literacy. 53% of students have reached the good category. Muja's Discovery Learning can be applied to the topics/materials that can be related to the local potential of the Muaro Jambi area. The concept discovery process will be more meaningful if it is carried out through investigations/experiments that emphasize student activities that support the development of scientific literacy.

In the strict challenges faced by society, a paradigm shift is needed in the education system that can provide a set of 21st century skills needed by students to deal with every aspect of global life. One of them is scientific literacy. Unfortunately, the scientific literacy ability of students in Indonesia is still low. The Inquiry and SETS models have been widely applied to improve students' scientific literacy skills. However, weaknesses are found such as: students still cannot use their content knowledge to explain scientific phenomena perfectly; and the need for more in-depth inquiry activities so that students' abilities in designing and evaluating scientific investigations obtain excellent results. Therefore, innovation was created to develop the BRADeR learning model based on consideration of the strengths and weaknesses of the inquiry model and SETS as well as theoretical and empirical support. This research serves as a preliminary study in the process of developing the BRADeR model to improve students' scientific literacy skills. This study includes a needs analysis and literature review. The results show that innovation can be maintained as a basis for developing a hypothetical model of the BRADeR learning model. The syntax of the BRADeR model includes: brainstorming, reading, analyzing, decision making, and reflection. The hypothetical model of the BRADeR learning model must be tested to meet the aspects of validity, practicality, and effectiveness to improve the scientific literacy skills of junior high school students.

The development of the science student worksheet based on the bioecology of cuttlefish (Sepia sp.) cultivation is an effort to improve the scientific literacy skills of students at the coastal village school of East Lombok. The purpose of this research is to produce student worksheet that is feasible, practical, and effective in improving students' literacy skills. This research is research and development using Thiagarajan 4D development model which includes design, define, develop, and disseminate stages. The research subjects consisted of 1 SMP/MTs equivalent in East Lombok which were determined using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used include validation sheets, student and teacher response questionnaires, and scientific literacy assessment instruments. The feasibility and practicality data were analyzed using the percentage formula, and the effectiveness data were analyzed using the N-gain analysis. The results showed that 1) student worksheet science based on the bioecology of cuttlefish cultivation (Sepia.sp) was feasible to use with an average score of 73 for the content/material aspect, 73 for the language aspect, and 85 for the appearance aspect, 2) science student worksheet based on the bioecology of cuttlefish cultivation. (Sepia sp.) is practically used with an average percentage of student responses of 81% and teacher responses of 88%, 3) student worksheet science based on the bioecology of cuttlefish cultivation (Sepia.sp) is effective in improving students' scientific literacy skills with an average N value -gain of 0.5 in the medium category. Thus, it can be concluded that the science student worksheet based on the bioecology of cuttlefish (Sepia sp.) cultivation is feasible, practical, and effective to use in science learning as an effort to improve the scientific literacy of junior high school students in coastal village schools in East Lombok.

Abstract The effect of COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia requires learning that is usually done face-to-face has turned into online learning. For teachers, the implementation of online learning requires engaging media so that learning becomes more various and exciting. This study aims to analyse the validity of the science literacy-based e-book, which will later be called E-LS. The first work of the Science-Physics teacher at Siti Aminah Junior High School Surabaya can train students’ scientific literacy skills. This study using a research method with the DDD-E design (Decide, Design, Develop, Evaluate). Based on the data analysis that has been done, we obtained descriptive-quantitatively using the Likert scale percentage score criteria. The results show that the percentage of validity in the aspect of Curriculum Conformity of 91.30 % (very valid). The material aspect is 93.45 % (very valid). The language aspect is 91.67 % (very valid). The media design aspect of 91.91 % (very valid). Scientific literacy aspect of 87.50 % (very valid). Overall the level of validity of the E-LS has an average of 91.17 % (very valid). It can be concluded that the E-LS media (temperature topic) is very suitable for use as a science-physics learning medium to train science literacy for junior high school students.

The study used causal-comparative research design to examine the scientific literacy among randomly selected Junior High School students under the Science, Technology and Engineering Program (STEP) of a National High School in the Philippines. Specifically, it investigated the factors that facilitate and hinder the students’ ability to write and present scientific research. Quantitative and qualitative data were gathered from primary and secondary sources. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data obtained from the interviews and questionnaires. Findings showed that the scientific literacy of students in terms of writing was perceived as good while presenting the scientific research was described as fair. The study also revealed that teachers’ factors, learning environment, and school administrative support affect the scientific literacy skills development of the students. Thus, the study suggested that by promoting the identified factors, the scientific literacy skills of the students will be further developed. Additionally, increase of teacher’s availability during consultation hours, use of differentiated instructions, localization, contextualization, formulation of policy guidelines for the use of learning resources, plan of activities for STEP, as well as development of a module, research networks and linkages should be given importance.
