Using a 2?2 matrix trick, an inequality involving commutators of certain Hilbert space operators as an operator version of Buzano?s inequality, which is in turn a generalization of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, is presented. Also a version of the inequality in the framework of Hilbert C*-modules is stated and a special case in the context of C*-algebras is presented.

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to present a comprehensive study of operatorm-convex functions. Let{m\in[0,1]}, and{J=[0,b]}for some{b\in\mathbb{R}}or{J=[0,\infty)}. A continuous function{\varphi\colon J\to\mathbb{R}}is called operatorm-convex if for any{t\in[0,1]}and any self-adjoint operators{A,B\in\mathbb{B}({\mathscr{H}})}, whose spectra are contained inJ, we have{\varphi(tA+m(1-t)B)\leq t\varphi(A)+m(1-t)\varphi(B)}. We first generalize the celebrated Jensen inequality for continuousm-convex functions and Hilbert space operators and then use suitable weight functions to give some weighted refinements. Introducing the notion of operatorm-convexity, we extend the Choi–Davis–Jensen inequality for operatorm-convex functions. We also present an operator version of the Jensen–Mercer inequality form-convex functions and generalize this inequality for operatorm-convex functions involving continuous fields of operators and unital fields of positive linear mappings. Employing the Jensen–Mercer operator inequality for operatorm-convex functions, we construct them-Jensen operator functional and obtain an upper bound for it.

The aim of this article is to establish several estimates of the triangle inequality in a normed space over the field of real numbers. We obtain some improvements of the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality, which is improved by using the Tapia semi-inner-product. Finally, we obtain some new inequalities for the numerical radius and norm inequalities for Hilbert space operators.

The symmetric shape of some inequalities between two sequences of real numbers generates inequalities of the same shape in operator theory. In this paper, we study a new refinement of the Cauchy–Bunyakovsky–Schwarz inequality for Euclidean spaces and several inequalities for two bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space, where we mention Bohr’s inequality and Bergström’s inequality for operators. We present an inequality of the Cauchy–Bunyakovsky–Schwarz type for bounded linear operators, by the technique of the monotony of a sequence. We also prove a refinement of the Aczél inequality for bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. Finally, we present several applications of some identities for Hermitian operators.

AbstractIt is shown that if the isometric image of a linear subspace of Hilbert space operators is irreducible in a strong sense, then the isometry is either a multiplicative or anti-multiplicative map, possibly followed by multiplication by a unitary.

Functional quantum theory of free Fermi fields is treated for the special case of a free Dirac field. All other cases run on the same pattern. Starting with the Schwinger functionals of the free Dirac field, functional equations and corresponding many particle functionals can be derived. To establish a functional quantum theory, a physical interpretation of the functionals is required. It is provided by a mapping of the physical Hilbert space into an appropriate functional Hilbert space, which is introduced here. Mathematical details, especially the problems connected with anticommuting functional sources are treated in the appendices.

<p>In this talk, to be given at a conference at Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli in September 2001, we shall describe the set of analytic bounded point evaluations for an arbitrary cyclic bounded linear operator T on a Hilbert space H and shall answer some questions due to L.
