We present a theoretical investigation of frequency doubling of electromagnetic wave in homogeneous, collisional and magnetized plasma. The coupled nonlinear equations for fundamental ordinary wave and second harmonic extraordinary wave have been solved. The amplitudes of these waves have been calculated for various values of collisional frequency and distance from the plasma boundary.

Characteristics for the generation of the second harmonic in homogeneous, collisional and magnetized plasma are investigated theoretically by solving the system of nonlinear equations for the fundamental and second harmonic extraordinary waves. The dependence of the efficiency of the wave frequency doubling on the distance from the plasma boundary and on the collisional frequency has been calculated.

Propagation of high-frequency electromagnetic waves in a weakly inhomogeneous magnetized plasma is investigated. We suppose the density gradient to be perpendicular to an external magnetic field, and the waves to be incident obliquely upon the plasma from vacuum. We find that the transmission coefficient of the ordinary wave through the plasma resonance is approximately equal to one in a fairly wide range of angles of incidence γ near the value γ0 = arcsin (Ωc/)(Ωo + Ω) ½. The transmitted ordinary wave is fully transformed into an extraordinary wave at higher densities. Then it propagates back to the region of a smaller density, and is fully transformed into the Bernstein modes in the vicinity of the hybrid resonance. Complications connected with the evanescent layer, which arise when the high-frequency energy is transmitted into the plasma in the form of the extraordinary wave, can thus be removed by using the ordinary wave with the angle of incidence chosen appropriately.

Second-harmonic generation of an extraordinary wave is investigated in the domain of phase synchronism with the pump wave. The conversion efficiency parameter is calculated for various values of the magnetic field, electron plasma density, angle of propagation and slab thickness.

AbstractWe have synthesized several metal xanthate complexes from metal salts and xanthate potassium salts. Powders of several of the materials were sorted and tested for their nonlinear optical properties. Cadmium xanthate demonstrated phase matchability for frequency doubling of 1.06 micron light and generated a very strong second harmonic signal.
