Background: The residential satisfaction is one of the major elements of quality of life, particularly in old age. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess residential satisfaction of a sample of Iranian senior citizens in Karaj, Iran. Methods: A cross-sectional design using a convenience sampling technique was employed to obtain a sample of 400 older adults 60 years and over. A validated researcher-constructed questionnaire was used to collect data on residential satisfaction. Results: The mean age of the respondents was 71.82 (SD=7.77), with a range from 60 to 98 years. The mean score for residential satisfaction was 130.70 (SD=35.70), indicating that the senior citizens were moderately satisfied with the urban space. The safety and security of the residential areas were found to be the most important factors for senior citizens. Conclusion: The findings showed that older adults had moderate satisfaction with residential areas, implying that policymakers should take measures to improve public space. The practical and theoretical implications of the study that may play a critical part in making successful housing policies for aging population are discussed.

Ich lokalizacja, liczba i konstrukcja mają ogromne znaczenie. Niniejszy artykuł opiera się na wynikach projektów badawczych dotyczących ławek miejskich w przestrzeni publicznej Warszawy. Zakres merytoryczny opracowania obejmuje identyfikację bieżących problemów związanych z miejscami do siedzenia na obszarach miejskich oraz związanych z nimi potrzeb osób starszych. Zgodnie z wynikami badań ławki powinny mieć oparcie lub oparcie i podłokietniki, być umieszczone w regularnych odstępach, w pobliżu miejsca zamieszkania i punktów handlowo-usługowych. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi wkład w dyskusję na temat kształtowania przestrzeni publicznej, która jest wygodna dla seniorów.

This article analyzes the main problems of urban public spaces, because today public spaces can determine the future of cities. It is noted that parks are multifunctional public spaces in the urban environment, as they are an important element of the citywide system of landscaping and recreation, perform health, cultural, educational, aesthetic and environmental functions. The article notes that the need for easily accessible and well-maintained urban parks remains, however, the state of parks in many cities of Russia remains unsatisfactory, requiring reconstruction. A brief historical background of the Park of Culture and Rest of the Soviet period in Omsk is expounded, the analysis of the existing territory of the Park is presented. It is revealed that the Park, being the largest public space in Omsk, does not meet the requirements of modern urbanism, although it represents a great potential for designing the space for the purpose of recreation of citizens. Performed functional zoning scheme of the territory of the Park in question, where its division into functional areas destined for active recreational users of the Park is presented, considered the interests of senior citizens, people with limited mobility, etc. Reconstruction of Parks of the Soviet period can provide the city with additional recreational opportunities, as well as increase its tourist attractiveness.
