The existence of cendrawasih (Paradisaea minor jobiensis Rothschild 1897) has been endangered due to destruction its habitats and wild hunting, hence conservation of its habitats is urgently needed. The objective of this study was to determine the availability of vegetation materials for creating the nests as an effort for the conservation of P. minor jobiensis in Imboriawi Forest, Barawai, Yapen Islands, Papua. Data were collected using the method of line compartment. Vegetation at seedling, sapling, pole and tree levels were measured and analyzed to determine the availability of plant species as the materials for creating bird nest. The results of vegetation analysis revealed 60 species at seedling level, 43 species at sapling level, 68 species at pole level, and 74 species at tree level with high diversity index values (H’) of 3.68, 3,32, 3,87, and 3,87 for seedling, sapling, pole, and tree levels, respectively. The results also revealed that vegetation used as a materials of nest of P. minor jobiensis in Imbowiari Forest is Bidens spilosa, Macaranga mappa, Timonius timon and Ficus septica. The four species at seedling, sapling, poles, and tree levels have low diversity index values (H’= 1) but can be used as indicators of making a nest in a sustainable way. Pinus Jantho Forest (PJF) Nature Reserve has unique characteristics and distinctive ecosystem that plays an important role in the preservation of germplasm and the protection of natural resources. The sustainability of the PJF Nature Reserve is strongly determined by vegetation of its constituents. Therefore, an effort is needed to help its management properly, one of which is by knowing the diversity of plants that make up the community in PJF Nature Reserve. The purpose of this research is to analyze the composition and diversity of plant species in PJF Nature Reserve. Data collection and sampling were done using multiple square method. The plots were laid out by systematic sampling. PJF Nature Reserve composed of 111 species from 46 family. The seedling and understorey have the highest number individuals (1028 in total). Then there are 240 individuals at sapling level, 108 individuals at pole, and 72 individuals for tree.  The Euphorbiaceae family has the largest number of species (11 species). The highest Important Value Index (IVI) for seedlings and understorey, sapling and pole, and tree respectively were Chloranthus elatior (11.09%), Piper aduncum (21.90% and 19.32%), and Pinus merkusii (25.52%). The Diversity Index indicates a high level of plant species diversity (3.25-3.63).

Coffee, Coffea arabica L., is planted in diverse agro-ecological environments in the mountains of Puerto Rico (PR). The pathogen, Xylella fastidiosa Wells et al., is a xylem-limited phytopathogenic bacterium transmitted by insects that causes coffee leaf scorch, citrus-variegated chlorosis and vascular diseases of many other plant species. The objective of this study was to characterize the fastidious endophytes occupying a similar niche as X. fastidiosa in the vascular system of Citrus sinensis and Inga vera trees in low diversity and high diversity shade environments where coffee is grown In PR. Sampling was conducted over two years in four localities: Adjuntas, Jayuya, Las Marías and Yauco during the dry and rainy seasons. Citrus sinensis and Inga vera were generally the only shade treesin coffee plantations described as "low diversity"; in "high diversity" plantations these same species were present along with Pithocellobium carbonarium, Gliricidia sepium and Andira inermis. Endophyte population (EP) and endophyte diversity (ED) were contrasted using factorial arrangements of shade, locality, season and year. Endophytes were clustered using multivariate analysis. Neither shade nor season had an effect on EP in Citrus. In Inga vera, EP was about three times higher in the second year compared to the first year regardless of season, location or shade. In both Citrus and Inga, ED was low. The highest ED was detected in Jayuya and the lowest in Las Marías. Ward's algorithm combined Citrus and Inga fastidious strains into four and five clusters for Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, respectively. Endophyte diversity of Citrus and Inga was determined by the plant species, not by location or shade. However, ED was higher in shaded coffee with low diversity of tree species. Thus, effects of shade (low versus high diversity) altered the community structure of endophytes prevalent in the vascular tissue and may impact host plant resistance to pathogens such as X. fastidiosa.

Abstract This study aimed to determine vegetation composition in the gold post-mining land of PT Sultra Utama Nickel in Bombana District. The method used in this research was the plotted path method by placing transects in accordance with purposive sampling technique. Transects were arranged systematically with a between-transects distance of 50 m The number of transects arranged were 18 transects with 3 plots each with size of each plot was 2 x 2 m, resulted in a total plot of 54 plots. Plant identification results showed that plant species found in the study area were 19 families, 30 genera, 34 species and 4 habitat. Results of vegetation analysis showed that of the 34 plant species found in the research location, plant species with the highest IVI value of 34.54% was Imperata cylindrica. The lowest IVI of 0.54% were found for Lygodium sp., Glochidion sp., Seleria levis Retz, Scoparia dulcis L., Sida rhombifolia L and Solanum torvum. The diversity index was 2.59, indicating moderate abundance category.

 Mount Merapi National Park (MMNP) is a natural con-servation area with the main function of preserving the diversity of plants, animals and their ecosystems. In 2010, Mount Merapi suffered a large eruption which caused damage to the forest ecosystem inside. One of the locations that suffered severe damage was at Cangkrin-gan Resort. After the eruption, the affected vegetation began to grow again. The purpose of this study is to monitor and determine the di-versity of secondary forest plants in the MMNP area. The method used was a method of path and use a point-intercept transect as the sam-pling unit. The results showed that after the eruption, the Acacia de-curens dominated at each level starting from sapling, poles and trees. Based on the results of the study showed that the eruption of Mount Merapi that occurred in 2010 resulted in a change in vegetation struc-ture in the area with the Shannon-Weiner diversity index which is still low, amounting to 1.86 for seedling, 1.32 for the sapling and 0.22 for poles. At the tree level 100% is still dominated by Acacia decurens.

Abstract. Modern grassland management seeks to provide many ecosystem services and experimental studies in resource-poor grasslands have shown a positive relationship between plant species richness and a variety of ecosystem functions. Thus, increasing species richness might help to enhance multifunctionality in managed grasslands if the relationship between species richness and ecosystem functioning is equally valid in high-input grassland systems. We tested the relative effects of low-input to high-input management intensities and low to high plant species richness. Using a combination of mowing frequencies (1, 2 or 4 cuts per season) and fertilization levels (0, 100 and 200 kg N ha−1 a−1), we studied the productivity of 78 experimental grassland communities of increasing plant species richness (1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 species with 1 to 4 functional groups) in two successive years. Our results showed that in both years higher diversity was more effective in increasing productivity than higher management intensity: the 16-species mixtures had a surplus of 452 g m−2 y−1 in 2006 and 504 g m−2 y−1 in 2007 over the monoculture yields whereas the high-input management resulted in only 315 g m−2 y−1 higher productivity in 2006 and 440 g m−2 y−1 in 2007 than the low-input management. In addition, high-diversity low-input grassland communities had similar productivity as low-diversity high-input communities. The slopes of the biodiversity – productivity relationships significantly increased with increasing levels of management intensity in both years. We conclude that the biological mechanisms leading to enhanced biomass production in diverse grassland communities are as effective for productivity as a combination of several agricultural measures. Our results demonstrate that high-diversity low-input grassland communities provide not only a high diversity of plants and other organisms, but also ensure high forage yields, thus granting the basis for multifunctional managed grasslands.

This study was to obtain the description of tropical lowland forest of Papua in Sewan village, Sarmi District, Jayapura region. The main objective was to investigate the structure, species composition and ecological value of the forest vegetation. Research methods included line transect, documentation, interview and literature review. Index Shannon Wiener was used to determine the level of species diversity. The results revealed that 27 tree species that grouped into 17 families inhabited the study area. The density of trees was 209 individuals/ha. A number of saplings were identified into 17 species and grouped into 15 families with the density 104 individuals/ha. At the tree level, species with the high important value (IV) index. important value (IV) index were Pometia pinnata Forst. (54.31%), Macaranga gigantea M.A. (45.33%), Knema sp. (27.37%), Nauclea orientalis L. (20.69%), Intsia palembanica Miq. (13.86%), and the other species had lower INP. At the saplings level species that had high INP were Pometia pinnata Forst. (84.05%), Horsfieldia sylvestris Warb. (34.87%), Knema sp (25.92%), Celtis nerifolia (22.54%), and Pterocarpus indicus Willd. (18.12%). Diversity index at tree level and saplings level were 2.73 and 1.91 respectively, and this showed the high diversity of the trees compared to that of the saplings. The ecological value of the forest in Sewan village included the function as watershed area, buffer zone for the wildlife and as habitat for several fauna especially birds and bats. Key words: analysis of vegetation, species of trees, Sewan village, Sarmi.

Abstract The urban forest is part of the public green open space (RTH) formed from tree vegetation that affects temperature and humidity and reduces wind speed to provide comfort for residents in the vicinity. One of the urban forests in Medan is the Balai Wilayah Sungai (BWS) II Medan. Therefore, vegetation density has an influence on temperature and which affects the quality of urban forests. This study aimed to identify the structure and composition of the BWS II Medan urban forest vegetation. The vegetation analysis method used in this study is a combination method between the path method and the plotline method. The vegetation data that has been obtained is then processed to obtain the Important Value Index (IVI) and the Plant Species Diversity Index (H’). The results showed that the woody plants found in the urban forest of BWS II Medan were 20 species with the composition of seedlings of four species (26 individuals), saplings of twelve species (49 individuals), poles of eleven species (39 individuals) and trees of ten species (141 individuals). The species that dominates at the tree level is Trembesi (Samanea saman), with an IVI value of 118.16%. Meanwhile, the dominant plant species at the seedling, sapling, and pole levels were Mahoni (Swietenia mahagoni), with IVI values of 78.67%, 55.73%, and 103.62, respectively. Therefore, the level of diversity in the BWS II Medan Urban Forest for saplings is classified as moderate, while seedlings, poles, and trees are classified as low.

The Research of Vegetation Analysis on Reclamation Area of Coal Mine of PT. Bukit Asam Tanjung Enim, South Sumatera was aimed to determine the types of vegetation that composing reclamation area was found in PT. Bukit Asam in terms of structure and composition. The research has been done in November until Desember 2014, in four reclamation area at PT. Bukit Asam, namely the area of reclaimed the Muara Tiga Besar Selatan, Mahayung, Klawas Timur, and the Muara Tiga Selatan having different strata age. the vegetation data includes rate of growth seedlings, saplings, poles, and tree obtained through transek method in the form plot lane. In each transect made a plot in size 20x20 m for tree level, 10 x 10 for poles level, 5x5 for saplings level, and 2x2 m for seedling and cover plants level. The results of this research, in the Muara Tiga Besar Selatan area was obtained the vegetation seedlings-cover plants and saplings level, each of 17 and 7 species. In the area Mahayung are only found level vegetation of seedlings-cover plants as many of 13 species. For the area Klawas Timur and Muara Tiga Besar Selatan was obtained growth level of seedlings-cover plants, saplings, poles, and tree each of 20, 4. 3, dan 2 species for Klawas Timur area, while on Muara Tiga Selatan area each obtained 19, 8, 7, and 3 species.The diversity index of species, overall in all area of reclamation and rate of growth included in the low category with value 0 ≤ H’ ≤ 2.Key words : PT.
